For me personally I watch the shows on rev3 I like and don't say much about the ones I don't. So i came to the forums to see what other people though because i couldn't believe rev3 would put this guy on and i am shocked to see that rev3 would have this guy represent them, because up till now i have found rev3 and its hosts to be very nice and pleasant people. as for him saying ****ot once its not acceptable once for him to call the users here anti-gay slurs is not acceptable just because its off site.

Edit: finished listening, he does make good points - but calling your audience dicks and cocks and other juvenile insults isn't the way to put it across, and I think this is what this whole show is going to be about. Making something that actually is at least a relatively good point and throw any attempt of actual humor out of the window in place of cock and shit jokes. That doesn't constitute as funny, and calling your audience dicks isn't the best way to introduce yourself, when quite frankly if you just said the good points like "I made this three months ago, it was my first time" etc. then I would be on board and supporting you (even if I do think that means you show should have been put on Beta, not instantly on the lineup because you're well known)!

I am going to continue listening but I think I have heard enough. I wasn't going to get into this like Phatlip or some of the others did. I didn't hear what exactly what he said. I figured he called the revision3 community "bitches" or what not but wow...after hearing what I have heard...if revision3 keeps this guy on their network...I am done.

Fine. He had a bad episode. We spoke our opinion. He should have come and asked us what to do better. We would have given it to him. But for him to get on his radio show and absolutely verbally abuse the revision3 community and geek culture as a whole is unbelievable and to have revision3 sponsor and advertise this guy on their site....is incredible.

I have emailed the link to David Prager, Jay Adelson, and Kevin Rose. Maybe one of them will give it a listen. Unbelievable. So many other ways that he could have approached this. Bashing the tech community was not the way.

Like I said, I am already on touchy grounds with revision3 and have been....and i wasn't going to get into this...but I have to. This was, and still is, a place for members of the geek/tech/music/drink community to rejoice and I am perfectly glad if it extends into other groups as well but....it should not extend into the arrogant, ignorant, just plain mean group that is "JV's World." Gross.

I have confidence that this will be taken care of...I would hope that Revision3 is kicking themselves for defending him in the beginning. There are so many other great podcasts that lack the hate of this individual. Not just hate...but the arrogance.

The thing with shock jock shtick is that the whole point of it is that there is no socially acceptable response to it. It is not conducive to open healthy community discussion, which is the only connective element of what revision3 chooses for content. You can't have a respectful public discussion because the jock has to stay in character, so he can never be part of the community, he is a professional troll. It's just a bad fit.

I didn't know a byte about him before the show


True, it didn't get on the auto-download list on my rss feeds but I'll watch a few more episodes (esp. 3rd, the first in rev3 studio one) and decide if I put it on my auto-download list (eg. Scam school, tekzilla...), download when I want (Systm was close to coming to this list, diggnation might also fall in here soon) or just completely ignore it (Yes, it's an option to not watch it at all, crazy huh? On my list they are XLR8R TV, iFanboy and Pixel Perfect)

In fact more than anything this got me excited for next episodes. Not just to get "I survived JWs world ep 1&2" t-shirt but he seems to be able to defend himself without the fanboy army.

I did not like the show and I was not going to give it a second chance because there are plenty more great video and audio podcasts out there that I can dedicate my time to.

What really tipped me over the edge was the audio of JV.

For him to insult people in such a way is terrible. Nobody in this forum from what I have read even went close to insulting him in the same way. If anyone did write anything as hate filled as what he said I would expect them to be banned straight away.

Revision 3 has done well lately by bringing in great shows such as co-op and I hope that Revision 3 realize the mistake they have made.

Hello Rev3 crew,

I just wanted to start to let you know that I have watched Diggnation since Episode 10 and then caught up with the first 10 episodes. I've watched most of your shows throughout week in week out and have tried to support you as individuals and as a company as much as possible because I think what you are achieving at Revision3 is amazing.

Here's the but (and there's always a but), I feel personally insulted by your new host 'JV' - him calling me and other viewers who gave feedback on his show 'dicks' and 'cocks' and felt like a kick in the balls after spreading the word and buying your merchandise and trying to stay active in your community in the past 4 years - going so far as to donate an image I made on the forum to be used as the Diggnation (and subsequently Digg Townhall) lower third.

I understand you want to spread your wings, and I fully support that - the music show you piloted a few weeks ago showed promise, the movie show looks amazing and ROFL sounds very cool from the little I've heard of it. So don't put me in the "Rev3 should be TechTV" camp - hell, we didn't even get TechTV here in Britain so I have no desire for it to return. I just want good internet television (admittedly with a slight tech slant where possible) made by people who know what they are doing. But this is definitely not the way to go.

Saying I'm boycotting Revision3 is ridiculous, I love your content and your company and I am willing to even give JVs World a second chance, but myself and the community I am writing on behalf would really appreciate a sincere apology over the whole incident. I think it's something that has hurt your reputation with your key fans who have supported you in good times and bad for almost half a decade now.

You've spent 4 years building up your name and this one guy has damaged it in just one day, surely you can see that after X amount of years he's going to cripple it into nothingness and isolate any potential sponsors you would get.

This is first and foremost a community. It always has been. If Revision 3 wants it to just be another network, then so be it. But a lot will change, starting with the audience.

His thing isn't my cup of tea. I didn't like the first episode because it seemed like a strange topic to start with. Fine and dandy. Didn't think it was right for this network, but live and let live.

Then I started watching his "response"... at first he explained the situation and I was like, good deal there. Might catch episode 2 now that I knew what was going on.

But then he just started bashing the community, making stereotypical remarks against geeks, gay people, women, and on and on... Seriously, for the first time I was shocked by a shock jock. Not because of the topic, but of how this guy attacked people. If he was being kind, he has no business being in radio. Not based on the hateful things he was saying.

If any of us called anyone else on this forum anything he said in his rant, we'd be banned. You can't call people these slurs... Especially not when you represent a company as he does now represent Revision 3...

I guess this is just what people seem to not understand. He has a show on Rev3 now. He will be in house soon. Like Patrick, Veronica, or Roger Chang. If ANY of those people said what he said... well for one they would never say that stuff. But you get the idea.

Ok, so JV is not a techie. We all get that. He doesn't understand the internet community and the fact that to be successful on the web traditionally you have to either speak geek and/or build a web community by incessantly thanking the fans, chatting, posting, and whatever else it is you l33ts expect in the form of reverence paid to you by the internet superstars.

But seriously, you ladies have to get over yourselves and stop playing the victim here. The "totally unprofessional" comments, and the "I can't believe you would have this guy represent Rev3" are almost too much to bear.

If you think about it, all he did was just sink to your level although in a much more sophomoric and profane way. Oh wait, you think just because your insulting comments you used to rip him and his show were snarkier, spelled correctly and dripping of sarcasm, they were any less rash than his response?

The bottom line is I've listened to JV for over 10 years now and he's a performer through and through. He cares about the content he puts out there which he produces (yes that means he is probably the one doing the Google image search and time-lining it in Premier) and he's just doing his best to try and take advantage of the different avenues available for distribution. And you know what, I think it was a brilliant move on Louderback's part because if you notice, this forum has been flooded lately by fans of JV (including me). That means that while you non-newbs may feel uncomfortable for a while with the crowd, in the end it fulfills Rev3's mission of getting their content out there in front of more eyeballs. Realize that the tech community is a relatively small community and in order to be successful Rev3 has to get out to the masses with different content. Or haven't you noticed that there are no tech shows on television and hasn't been for a very long time.

The show does have its problems, and if I could make one suggestion I would say that he tone down the performance more than just a little bit, and up the thoughtful social commentary with brash humor he is known for...and I think JV's World will be just fine.

I'm going to tell you it sucks. If I think it warrants constructive criticism I'll point it out. If I think it's awesome I'll say it's awesome. This is a discussion board, not a fan club. A few people seemed to like it, most didn't. I saw a lot of constructive criticism. I also saw people more blunt and straight forward with their responses.

I still don't see how people not liking your show warrants using terms that are degrading to homosexuals.
It depends, I do think people should say if they don't like something were they insulting the show or just saying they didn't like it, the only insulting comments I saw were after his rant and that's understandable.

Yeah, some were insulting the show by blatantly saying it sucked. I really see nothing wrong with that though. If that's what they thought about it that's fine. It's just a show.

I don't believe I saw anyone personally attack JV until he made his rant. If anyone was making personal attacks prior to the rant, they were in the minority. But nothing is wrong with saying a show sucked. It's a show. You don't use comments that degrade homosexuals because people don't like your show though. Again, that's like beating the crap out of a guy that only cut you off on the road (I like that example).

Just like many other stupid or hateful ideas of the past, you want that stuff to be out there for people to see how silly or hateful it may be, even if there are some who enjoy it.

Just like back in the day the old Superman radio show fought the KKK in one of their episodes. Author Stetson Kennedy joined in order to get all their secret codes and rituals and were all announced on the show. This helped remove any mystique surrounding the organization and helped lead to its decline from millions of members to just a few thousand.

Or the way South Park clearly laid out what Scientologists believe and we all got to see how nutty it really was. That wacky stuff they learn after reaching a certain level. You want that stuff readily available.

As you have clearly learned today about my dislike of religion :D, I for one want as many bibles out there as possible. It's the book that has created more atheists and people who run from Christianity than any other book out there.
