Let's chill out for a bit. The hateful comments JV made seriously pissed me of too. I'm one of the most outspoken ones about this, but I think we should chill for a bit.
Let's give Revision3 and JV a chance to take all of this in and take the appropriate action. If that doesn't happen we can go from there, but until then let's give them a chance.

How can you seriously expect a ceo (or any staff/officers) to be responsible for the off-show comments of what is essentially a contractor? This guy is not an employee of rev3 and maybe that's what a lot of people are missing.
What he says outside of the work that rev3 contracts has absolutely nothing to do with rev3. Analogies are fairly foolish, but this is directly akin to you working for a company and drinking off-the-clock. The company has nothing to do with your life aside from what they pay you to do. Are you going to call CBS on promoting underage drinking because they have a viewership under the drinking age as well as employees that drink off-the-clock? (that's a rhetorical question, in case that wasn't clear).
I'm sure you're all hungry for blood for some reason, but that's baseless and you're not entitled to it. Period.
Beyond that, in the end, this is exactly why this guy is employed -- he seems to get a great reaction out of phatlip (I'm pretty sure that's why i was employed back in the day).
For people that so voraciously eat up free content, a select few seem to have a massive problem recognizing what they're entitled to (ie: not a damn thing).

The only problem of course is the CEO of Revisoin3 promoted this little event on his Twitter. This was related to Revision3 and was intended for the Rev3 audience. He represents the company.
Still, I think we need to give Rev3 a chance to sort this out.

I do disagree, I think a network's charge is to provide content to the widest audience possible. This is very much a similar situation to FOX/FOXNews. Those are two, often intensely, opposite networks. If their charge were to be to protect or defend their community, one of those stations would have drastically different programming.

hosting and funding do matter quite a bit, they're just not convenient to your cause. I would contend (and have) that you need to grow some skin. Yes, very few people enjoy the word ****ot, but i don't think that's what you're upset about. I think it's that you were and a small group of others were the specific target of his rant. It isn't the corporation's job to protect your ears or sensibility. You might prefer that, but you're not a shareholder.

Doesn't the company at least owe it to the community to say: "We're sorry one of our people used offensive language. It doesn't represent us?". He may not be an employee or whatnot, but I feel that since he was specifically addressing comments about the show, I think he was partially representing Revision3, especially since the official Revision3 Twitter account posted a link to it.
I think what he was saying was really over-the-top and unnecessary. Most of us would be fine if he addressed this all in a normal, civil manner. I also don't think it's a good thing to call potential viewers "f****ts," "queers," "bitches," and "dicks."

Air America canned Randi Rhodes for calling Hilary Clinton the "c" word at a non-Air America event. I thought that was appropriate for Air America to do, even though I usually enjoy Randi Rhodes.
I see the same thing here.
JV using the "f"-for-gay word is the same thing. He may not be a direct employee, spokesperson, or official mascot of Revision3, but as of the uploading of his first episode, he did become a "voice" of revision3, and should be held responsible for calling me specifically, being gay, and the community which has sustained this company as a whole, a ****ot, an be held responsible for his vicious, sexist, homophobic public statements.

So this is where this gets interesting. I agree, I certainly find it abhorrent language (especially the insulting way ****ot has been co-opted as a "harmless" phrase, "oh, you know what i meant!"). But I don't think the onus is on the CEO to take action for speech not paid for by the corp. I think the proper way to address that is to either take it up with this JV guy or simply ignore the show, boycott it if you will. After dealing with the intracacies of a content provider, I have seen both sides of this and come out on the side of taking it up with the talent. There is a very clear distinction in paying someone for speech and dealing with speech made off-the-clock. I disagree that he "became a voice of revision3" in this instance.

All I can do is speak for myself, and say I don't believe using that sort of language is okay. When it comes from one of the companies people, and is directed at the customers (on an event promoted by the company), I think both parties have a responsibility of making an apology. At the very least so Revision3 clears any confusion, and assures everyone that while HE said those things, THEY don't believe that.
Otherwise, I take it as a sign that they don't care.

What is productive about you waiting around for an apology? What have you done to directly address this issue? Have you talked to this JV character? Do you know why you're upset? Do you honestly think it is the corporate position of the Revision3 Corporation that they promote hate speech?
Step back from this and look at it. A new show:
contracts are signed, production staff hands tech team the master to encode, they encode, post and publish. Nothing out of the ordinary.
marketing team starts to promote, you see ads on the site, an announcement on the blog, tweets from the usual suspects. Happens with every show.
New show talent addresses the terrible and blown-out feedback a few vocal individuals post on the forum (this too is completely normal)
Guy says something he shouldn't have. It's dispicable, but it's (from what I gather) completely normal for his show.
Where in here does rev3 have anything to do with his speech? Where is Jim prodding him to call people ****ots? Where is the corporate memo sent out to staff@ that says we're gonna push '****ot' big, it's the new hotness? Where in any of this is revision3 responsible for apologizing to *you*? Where is your boycott? where is your real action?
You're behind a keyboard arguing with me, the last person in the world you need to convince that being gay is just peachy and has nothing to do with me or my rights, trying to convince me of just that. Bravo

I remember when pioneers, a long long time ago, migrated to the Internet to escape censorship based on special interests and the oh so fragile feelings of a select audience whom saw it fit to make a biased judgment on the quality and context of a show based on their own selfish agenda. Those were the days, but it seems now the previously free agents that roamed the valleys of the interwebs have fallen victim to these same self entitled listeners who claim to have better judgment than the talent and executives.

Bravo
(I'll let the majority speak for themselves, thank you. I'm sure not gonna let you represent me.)
Bye

Damn, this forum reminds me of high school.
Phatlip, I know people have said this before (and I find the following comment insipid when coming from others), but please please be a bit more thorough in your reading of comments.LOL, you seriously need to give up on that dream right now. Besides, he's too busy owning cops, and investors, and VC's to be worried with reading. He's a busy man.
