I'm a college student and in need of some help. Instead of bringing both a computer monitor and TV with me to my dorm, is it possible to set up my monitor to act as a TV without using my laptop? I know there are adapters like the EyeTV which I've heard good things about, but I'd rather have a completely standalone unit.

Thanks ahead for any suggestions!

You could get a digital tuner box. they can be had for less than $100. here's a link (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e_0_13?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=digital+tuner+box&x=0&y=0&sprefix=digital+tuner) to get you started

Some of them you can hack to run on batteries, so they will be portable. I know that kipkay did a video on one rca model.

Over the air TV is so last century.

Just download the TV shows you want. use Hulu, Boxee, mythTV, etc.

You could buy one of those Viseo flat screen TV's at Costco and have it act like a monitor. The only problem is that the screen doesn't tilt up and down.

True but that also takes valuable bandwidth and goes towards the cap.

alot of monitors support hdmi now, u just need to have a cable box with an hdmi or dvi port on it your all set...

otherwise the only other way I can think of doing it is with a tv card in your pc.
