Maybe Kevin and Alex just aren't as into it anymore... or they keep filming when they are hungry. They take one look at a food story, mention they are getting hungry "lets finish the show," then a few minutes later Kevin goes "don't we have one more story?" and Alex replies "Yeah we do but thats alright *shrug*.* Sounded like they wanted to finish to either go eat or because they got better stuff to do. Maybe Alex had a raid he had to get to :)
Show was great though either way.

Let me start with saying: EPIC fake sponsor.

Overall, a VERY short episode, but it was an enjoyable 30 minutes. Wish it was longer, since I was really enjoying it.

Anyone else notice the "Media Offline" screen near the beginning?

Also, why was there a cut between the Google Captcha and the YouTube URL story?

Did something go wrong?

Yeah, i did notice the jump in the video about 1/3rd way through. i didn't think anything of it at first, then noticed they completely cut out a story. went to the rev3 site and saw the story (bmw vs audi) listed in the show notes.

too bad. i know those guys each have nicer cars now and would have like to hear what they had to say about it.

They definitely don't seem into it anymore. Both of them seemed bored and tired, which made me bored with this episode. Kevin was paying little attention to Alex when he was talking about the story. It reminded me of me when my mind is somewhere else but I'm in the middle of a conversation with someone. Also, not once have they ever cut out an entire story (or anything really) once it's been filmed. Was it really that bad or uninteresting that it had to be cut?

Sorry guys, but it's official. Until I hear it's gotten better, Diggnation is off my weekly download list. Thank you for a great 200 episodes, and hopefully I'll catch you later.

That was a major error on our parts. We're in the process of re-doing the episode and will have it ready later on today. We will also make a clip of just that segment so that those who already saw the episode do not need to download the whole show again.

We will update the this thread once the replacement files are in place.

Really? 16 min in and the words "last story" appear already? Kevin is web searching Vimeo monthly traffic instead of listening to Alex? They're just rushing. Is an extra 30 min a week really that horrible? They used to do near-hour long shows. I'd rather they do a show every 2 weeks, make it twice the length and actually get into producing entertainment than reading about news stories for 20 min and then leaving to get lunch. The only time this episode became interesting was when they derailed and started arguing about food.

Remember when they'd down multiple beers and get punchy and silly and go off track regularly? I blame the decline in quality to them sipping tea or 1/3 of a beer for episodes now. hah

So with the lost story added back in, that brings this episode to 4 stories. Didn't it used to be 6? I don't get why they seem to be aiming for 30 minute episodes. It is a much better show when they take time to discuss the stories and go off-topic rather than rush through everything.

I too won't be watching Diggnation next week. I thought something might have changed after Jim came on here asking for suggestions.

Something needs to be done, someone needs to acknowledge the problems and concerns that the fans are voicing.

Also, does noone at Rev3 watched the "finished" version before its released?? There's been a lot of cock-ups like this, seems that there is no quality control whatsoever.

Here are some good examples from this ep of Kevin's usual input:

Alex: Just like a human could look at a picture of a field with a tank that's camouflaged and go there's a tank, but it's really hard for a computer to understand that that is a tank. So one of the things that they're doing is they're trying to figure out a better way to utilize this program, they're trying better way to figure out that the person who is filling out this form is a human being, not a computer. Because sometimes you screw up, and I hate it when the computer is like "Oh, I'm sorry, you're a computer, not a human." It's like, no, your fucking CAPTCHA program looks stupid. So what they did is Google is now testing out this new theory where images, like they had a couple where, like an image of a boy, and he's the image is upside down. Where humans will look at it and go, "That's a parrot, but it's upside down. That's a human, but it's upside down." Computers, it's real hard, because one, they can't even tell what it is, let alone it's a person upside down. Plus, you could try to even do more complicated things like somebody hanging upside down on a monkey bars, but the picture is upside down. A human would look at that and within seconds go, "Well, that's an upside down picture.

Kevin: Right.

Alex: There's some context there's some context stuff. So like, the these are this image is, um, uh can be hard for people to actually figure out what it is upright, because it's a picture overhead of boxes on a table.

Kevin: Right.

Alex: So it could be upright, could not be upright. And then a car driving on a street, all these people got it.

Kevin: Yeah.

----------------

Alex: Yeah, where they literally, what they do is they give you two works, both of them messed up. Because basically what they do is they OCR scan books, and some words are just, the print is a little screwed up. And the computer can't really figure out what it is. And so it goes, I don't know if I know what this is, even if it's, like, I'm 95% sure that this word is "at." I'm just not 100% sure that it's "at." What they do is they give you two garbled up words. One of them is the word that they want to find out what it is. And then one of them is one that they know what the answer is.

Kevin: Right.

Alex: And what they said was, like, when you get the first one right, you're going to get the second one right, most of the time. So what they do is they do it a bunch and as soon as the consensus is reCAPTCHA, that's what it was. reCAPTCHA. Um so as soon as they get a consensus of most people says this word is hat because we know, because we know what this other one is, and you can actually have it read out the one that it knows ...

Kevin: Mhm.

I know it has been said time and time again, but this weeks episode was an all time low. I'm not taking into account the error in the release of the show since things happen (got 200/201 eps right so can't complain :)).

I'm pretty sure this show was filmed at the same time as episode 200 which makes it almost 2 weeks old. This is one of, if not the, biggest problem with diggnation lately. Please stop doing 2 episodes per week. If the guys need a week off once in a while no big deal, but IMO the show is severely hurting because of this.

Also, 30 minute show? Waaaaaaaaaaaayyyy too short. Considering sponsors and emails take about 10 minutes we get 20 minutes worth of content and most of that is spent explaining the digg stories and not discussing them. We watch the show for the discussion, not the digg stories themselves since most of us already know the stories because we read digg. Please take more time to discuss the stories and add 1 or 2 more stories per week. It seems to be the general consensus that the 45 minute-1 hour is the best length.

The guys were rushing way too much in this episode. They mentioned they were hungry and seem to want to get the show over with to go eat. I suggest they go out to eat before the show so they are able to sit down and do a show without watching the clock so to speak. I think a major part of the problem is that they are doing 2 shows per week and by the 2nd show they are just sick of doing it.

I too won't be watching Diggnation next week. I thought something might have changed after Jim came on here asking for suggestions.

I thought the same thing too, but I guess they aren't taking our constructive criticism/suggestions seriously. I'm going to look at the length of the next show before I watch it. If it's not at least 45 minutes I'm unsubscribing. It's a shame too because it was such an epic show...

I dont like the 2 week old stories either but thats what happens w/ them in different cities. I doubt flying one of them around every week is an option. Having only 2 eps a month that are twice as long would cut down on the revenue from sponsors. Perhaps trying a show thru Skype like Brian does on BBLive and Leo does on twit.tv. It doesnt totally ruin the episode for me... but their schedule shows in the quality IMO. Hey.. I dont know the solution and seems they dont either.

Yes THIS! I don't care if they record one (long) episode every two weeks and then release it as two parts so you get four "episodes" per month. Just don't pull the "Prager's still wearing his fiesta shirt." () thing. Recording two at once means they're doing an hour or longer show anyway and probably DO want to rush the 2nd one.

I'm so glad Rev3 has shows like Scam School and TRS to fall back on because my favorite Rev3 show is a shell of its previous self these days.

Alright, I'm still in the middle of watching the episode, but come ON! First off, 30 minutes? Seriously? Second off, this was obviously shot right after the 200th episode. So, 2 week old stories and them rushing to get through the episode. Awesome. Always what I want out of my Diggnation.

Look, I've had a crappy day already and it's only 1:30 PM. I was hoping that Diggnation would offer some sort of reprieve from my life's drama. The magnificent thing that I LOVE about Rev3 is the idea that good content comes first. Unfortunately, this seems to be going to way of the dodo with regards to Diggnation. I hate to jump on the "show sucks more now than it used to" bandwagon, but Diggnation is just not what it used to be.

I know it could hurt the revenue stream of Rev3, which is ultimately a business, but if the guys just aren't into it anymore then you need to figure out a way to fix the problem! Take a week or two off. Let the guys regain their passion for the show. Otherwise viewership is going to start to wane. Because if they don't care anymore, then why the hell should we?

ok... extra grief this week cause of the fuck up happening.. contributing to a lackluster show shot the same day as the one last week... I just had a thought... Perhaps when shootiong 2 eps in 1 day... release the 2nd ep after 10 days instead of making the content 2 weeks old... Rev3 still gets to advertise the sponsors twice.. content still seems fresh.. and we can wait an extra 3 days for a new segment... I'm sure that the complainsts are extra cause of the flub,, w/ the stale content and the rushed episode.

BTW... any1 else remember when it was just audio and Digg stories werent discussed and it was just 2 dudes hanging out, talkin about old days, and puters... saying "Hey.. we could do this every week"... Yeah Kev wants to push Digg and it adds some content... but I could listen to Alex talk about his Muay Thai training and his interview on Kevin Pollack's show or 20 min and leave out some of the Digg.com promotion

Thats the thing that people don't understand... it's not free at all. We are providing revision3 with some of our time by watching their ads. Because time = money, sponsors provide the actual cash to revision3 in exchange for our time. Think of it like we are working for the sponsor and instead of getting paid money from the sponsor, the sponsor buys us revision3 content. We pay for the show by watching the ads whether we like the show or not... we can't be refunded time.

The bottom line is that if we don't watch the ads, rev3 doesn't make any money. Why shouldn't we have some say over what we buy with our time? Forgive me if I sound picky, but if I walk into a store and buy something and I don't get what I paid for (whether it be with money or time), I'm going to be pissed.

Do I always have to be the defender of diggnation? I think some people are just jumping on the bandwagon now and posting before they have even watched the episode. This was an awesome episode!

I'll be the first to say that some of the recent shows have been rushed and not long enough, but this one doesn't fit those characteristics. It was original, very comedic with some awesome anecdotes, imitations, etc. I thought it was a great return where I found myself actually laughing out loud in front of my monitor.

Good show in my opinion, not sure where all the negativity is coming from. Maybe the first release fuck up? Guys...who cares? That is one thing I could care less about right now and have learned to get over. If it is delayed, whatever. If they skip a part in the show, whatever. As long as the content is the same.....then its all goood.

First off, thanks for the apology. It is not necessary though. The problem with the episode wasn't just a one time thing. Alright, so if that segment had been in there it would be about 40 minutes. My time complaint is rescinded. However, the shows, of late, have been far shorter on average than they have in the past. Also, shooting multiple episodes on the same day still sucks. Chuckles, I'm relatively sure that nobody is blaming YOU for these problems. These are problems that the show faces as a whole.

Also, given the mood I was in there wasn't much that could cheer me up. I needed to vent, but I still feel that many of the points I made were justified. I don't hate Diggnation and I certainly don't hate Rev3 (hell, I'd cut my left arm off for a production internship). I just think Diggnation has some issues it needs to address. And thus, I apologize for the angry candor of my previous post.

I don't know why there are so many complaints. I thought it was a pretty fun episode. Good stories, and it made me laugh. I don't think you can really force these things. Maybe you should just tell Kevin and Alex to go over one extra story every show? I like the tangents they go off on as well, in fact that's probably why I keep watching. Sorry to jump in again but I felt this interesting enough to post. A couple of years ago, I showed non-tech people some episodes of Diggnation. Some of them still quote things from those shows to this day (remember Alex singing his version of Chocolate Rain during an intro ("Made by Nestle, king of chocolate drinks)). I showed yesterday's Diggnation to another person who hadn't seen it before and he said it was "sad".

I still enjoy the show. Don't get me wrong. I'm just saying it's not the same. Those saying or thinking that no one has a right to complain because it's free.... Look, I paid for a subscription to Diggnation back in the day so I could get it a day or two earlier because it was so good that I wanted to support it. These days, it supports Rev3 through ad revenue amongst other things. It is, as it currently sits, just like any TV show. You watch it for free, the commercials interrupt it, the creators get revenue via a collection of pathways. If your favorite TV show ceased to be entertaining, I'm sure you'd complain as well. Viewers have a right to voice their opinions. I personally think the show has gone downhill but it is definitely still entertaining. Just maybe not as much. I'm just glad they're still doing it, myself.

This was a 'meh' episode in my eyes, as unfortunately most have been lately.

2 episodes in 1 day is definitely having a detrimental effect on the show. It's nothing to do with old stories, I'm sure like me most people don't watch diggnation for upto the minute news. It's the fact that the second show is clearly rushed they clearly can't really be bothered doing it by that time.

The whole attraction of Diggnation was the relaxed attitudes of Kevin and Alex. They said what they wanted and they had opinions and interests similar to mine. If I wanted to watch a mediocre run down of news stories, I'd watch the news.

If they are tired one week, or if they are losing interest then be honest don't do a show. The audience isn't some vengeful behemoth, we understand. It's a bit of a slap in the face to treat the audience like, frankly, brain dead numbers who just want show after show after show.

I still feel that many of the points I made were justified. I don't hate Diggnation and I certainly don't hate Rev3 (hell, I'd cut my left arm off for a production internship). I just think Diggnation has some issues it needs to address. And thus, I apologize for the angry candor of my previous post.

You know, I can use an extra left arm. It can get quite busy here. :) If you're interested in doing an internship here, you should definitely send an email to interns at revision3 dot com. Please don't include your left arm. You will need it if and when you do start working here as a intern. We keep them quite busy. :P

With regards to diggnation, I wholeheartedly agree with everyone on this. It is not what it used to be. Is it still a good show? I think it is still an awesome show, but can it be better? Absolutely. How? I will have to leave that up to Prager, Kevin, Alex, Hippie, and the the awesome Revision3 production team.

If you guys and gals have suggestions and complaints, please do continue to voice them and let us know. We know that you're vocal not because you hate us. We know that it is because you care and know that we can do better. We proudly say that we're the leaders in the IPTV space and we should be held to those standards.

I watched the Audi vs. BMW clip. If that's how the rest of the episode would have been, it would have kept me interested. Unfortunately, of what I watched, that clip was the only good part. I stopped watching as they went into the sponsors because, frankly, I was bored. It seemed like Kevin was pretty bored too.

I also agree that the quality of Diggnation has been declining in the past few months. If the shows begin to be like this last one then definitely I'll stop watching. They should really consider an alternative schedule, it's becoming obvious that both Kevin and Alex can't prioritize the show like in the past. I mean Alex with TRS, Project LORE, and any other stuff that he's into. Kevin having to keep up with the growth of Digg and the other ventures he's into. Bottom line is, don't try to force a weekly episode if the attitude and time is not there.

I wouldn't be opposed to a twice a month or even once a month show as long as the content was better... Unfortunately, it's not like that for Revision 3... Diggnation is one of their highest producing shows. So cutting the number of episodes in half would mean they lose half of their sponsorship time, which equals lose in revenue. And that's just not going to happen.

LOL someone got told... jk ;)

I like both cars but personally think the R8 is sexier... When it comes down to numbers that close who can tell the difference anyways? When it's that close it comes down to the skills of the driver anyway. And I'll smoke both of them on my 1000cc bike :) (up until about 140~150mph at least)

I agree that the R8 is the sexier of the two... but does it really matter which one is faster when the speeds are that high? Its not like you're going to do 150+ mph unless you're on a drag strip or want to risk prison time or an extremely large fine. I guess it's just the fact that one is faster that makes the difference but I rather look at the style of the car and the gadgets it has than the speed (although fast cars are cool).

Nope it really doesn't matter... and to tell the truth I drive like a grandma most of the time, I hate idiots who race on the street and kill people. If I were caught racing/excessive speed my current career would be done... I would lose my Ambulance/Fire engine licenses so quick it wouldn't even be funny. One of the reasons I hate having my sportbike is everyone wants to see how fast it really is... Even if I go slow they drive like an idiot trying to provoke me which if they got into an accident I would feel responsible. Before I started EMS I would speed and took my bike to redline once (189mph indicated 168mph GPS) but after scraping people off the freeway it's just not worth it anymore... So my comment was just a little sarcasm and humor... I don't condone anyone race/speed excessively... (especially in SoCal, cause if I get called to scrape up your body off the street at 2 am I am going to be very grumpy lol)

Okay, so I admit that this episode got off to a bit of a slow start, but as the episode went on it became really, really interesting. I just think that the first story was really kind of boring. Just an uninteresting story. After that, it became just as good as last week's, if not better because of some semi-drunk mistakes.
And about the Kevin seeming uninterested thing, and just saying "uhhuh" or "mhmm" or "yeah" to anything Alex says half the time, I think that's just him. That used to bug me like, a year ago when I first started watching Diggnation, but I've gotten over it. It's just... him.

yum... Have you guys ever heard the M6 with open exhaust? wheew! Its pure sex. I'd personally would choose the looks of the R8 over the BMWs of course... but for performance for value its the Z06 / ZR1 hands down... I'm not a corvette guy by any means WAY to many of them for a sports car IMO but they walk all over the R8 at the track. But I enjoy actually DRIVING the car rather than the car driving me... thus Lotus is the true choice ;) or anything under 2000lbs.

I really like this episode due to the car talk haha! Their bickering in the beginning about BMW / Audi was enjoyable. Plus its always good to see some slurring of words do to beers!

hell my Exige's turn signal lights have popped out twice on passenger side and once on the driver side... annoying.

I'd highly recommend Kevin to look into the Evora though. If he likes the looks of the R8 so much due to the looks... The Evora is gonna be priced VERY solid plus even Jeremy Clarkston LOVED the Evora

http://jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/07/2010-Lotus-Evora.jpg

not near power of the R8 but its gonna be lighter and a lot cheaper.

I agree with the posts, that the show isn't what it once was, and with those that say it's still good. I wish they would not film two shows at once, but I don't want to go a couple of weeks or months without one either.

Does anyone know if LaLa has moved in with Kevin, or since two shows were filmed at the same time.....she could be heard in both 200 and 201? Alex has been pretty open with us, regarding his relationship with Heather. I think Kevin and Lala could be a good match. I dont know if CA is different than Michigan... but the R8 isn't that uncommon around here... I can think of at least 4 near our local car hang outs on woodward. Always some old dude that will never ever use the car to its true meaning around a track. But hey they paid for it! Their choice! :D

AMG wagon = more rare... I love cars that don't look decent that can perform! but by far the single best looking AMG is the SL65 Black. Sexier than the SLR by far.

http://www.dpccars.com/photos-08/07-11-08-01-Mercedes-SL65-Black-Series.jpg

Plus if Paris Hilton can drive the SLR it sucks as a true sports car IMO... a real sports can should be driver driven not driving the driver.

Do I always have to be the defender of diggnation? I think some people are just jumping on the bandwagon now and posting before they have even watched the episode. This was an awesome episode!

I completely agree. Have some recent episodes been a bit shorter than I'd like? Sure. Does it bother me that stories in some episodes are two weeks old? No, there is so much content on Digg that most of these stories end up being new to me even if they are from a previous week.

It's fairly obvious to me that there is a very vocal minority of the viewership that is continuing to make the same complaints, but I seriously doubt this group is more than 5-10% of the total viewers of Diggnation. Not sure if Mr Louderback would publish any info on actual viewership, but that's my guess.

I still get much amusement from ever week of Diggnation. I'll continue to watch as long as they are producing it.

Ok I haven't watched Diggnation in probably about 9 months. There isn't a reason why I stopped watching, just haven't had time. I downloaded this episode, watched it, and then I came straight here to see if anyone else was complaining about it. I see that there is a whole ton of people complaining and that it has been going downhill, which I knew nothing about.

My point is, to say that there is a vocal minority and that people are jumping on the bandwagon is incorrect. The show has definitely changed and it is almost hard to watch.

Actually, there is kind of a vocal minority. I think diggnation gets something around... 250,000 downloads a week? Give or take a few thousand? And the amount of people registered to this forum, and who actually post in this forum are far below that.

An example is me: i watched a lot of diggnation before even considering registering to this forum... and even tho i registered, i rarely sign in to comment on anything and yet still watch each weekly episode. Sure, some eps aren't as good as others. And sometimes there just isnt much about the story to discuss. But hey, when is life ever perfect all the time?

Grrrr, PLEASE, for the love of god, read the whole thread. This "Diggnation is free thus who are we to complain?" topic has been addressed already!

"Thats the thing that people don't understand... it's not free at all.

Forgive me if I sound picky, but if I walk into a store and buy something and I don't get what I paid for (whether it be with money or time), I'm going to be pissed."

Grrrr, PLEASE, for the love of god, read the whole thread. This "Diggnation is free thus who are we to complain?" topic has been addressed already!

"Thats the thing that people don't understand... it's not free at all.

Meh. It sounds like the lady who sued McDonald's because her coffee was hot.

In my book if it doesn't cost you any money, it's free. The whole time = money is weak. It cries "me me me." If that was the case, we'd all be rich. Sponsors pay for the chance their adds will be seen. The more viewers = better the chance because not everyone watches them. Some use the time to take a piss while others skip 'em. You made the choice to spend your time watching Digg. In otherwords, you volunteered.

You are right, you can't get time back - no one can. I can't get the time back I spent typing this response. I made that choice already knowing I would lose it and I'm not holding you responsible for my choice.

You can't cry foul on lost time because time has the universal disclaimer.

A person CAN get money refunded. If there's nothing to refund, it was free.

At least in my opinion.

The whole time doesn't equal money debate is as pointless as Apple vs. Mac... both sides think they are right, neither are willing to concede. I could argue a point of everyone being volunteers but someone would come up with a rebuttal and round and round we go. So I won't do that...

I just wanted to respond to the statement quoted above... That is assuming every bodies time is of equal importance or equally valuable. and that simply is not true.
