View Full Version : IDEA: A guest 3rd host once a month on Diggnation

Thread title says it all.

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but a quick forums search didn't turn up any results (I only tried searching once though).

I think it would be nice to have some semi-famous web superstar on every 4th show--just for a 3rd person's commentary about the top diggs. Say, for example (and this is just a totally random suggestion), the creator of ytmnd.com

--Good idea or no?

I'd actually like it if Martin co-hosted one show.

JAY! I would like to see Jay host it with them. He seems to be pretty good in the spotlight well at least typing in the spotlight.

Just seeing different people once in awhile along side with them would be cool

If we're talking about having someone on based on what they digg, I would say Jay would be interesting...

As long as its nothing like what theyre doing to extended play on G4. It seems like theyre slowly phasing out Morgan. blair butler bleh.

But yeah Martin would be hilarious!

Remember when he was sneaking beers @ Reno?

While we're at it Gator should come on DN!

Maybe Jeremy from PP can do an intro like the ninja did. Theres an idea they could have other podcasters intro DN.

BTW NEW SITE AND SHOWS (BROKEN4!!!) ROCK!

Peace!

Definately Jay. Hell, jay should make his own "entrepeneurship in the Web 2.0 world" podcast. I have heard him on several audio interviews, and he is well spoken, and has a lot to offer. That would be a cool addition to Rev3, even if it was just audio, to save time.

As for other guests, they might "eat their own dogfood" to quote mr Jobs. Have Wil Wheaton guest, and like said before, Martin Sargeant. Others from their own herd...

After that, maybe expand to Mr. Ninja, and Dr. Tiki. Keep it in the family as much as possible, and expand to known "outsiders" like Mr LaPorte, and/or whatzizname, cranky geek guy. Didn't kevin interview Mitnick on the systm show. He would be fun. Heck they could even get the Woz.

Hell, I should work for these guys...

They are in San Fransisco, after all.;)

Seems like everyone so far is digging the idea. Maybe I should shoot an email to them?

I think we all should email them, boombard them about it.

Amen. It would add variety and give the show even more appeal as the 'flagship' of rev3. Just don't over-do it. I'd hate for Diggnation to become too formal. The whole 'drunk guys on a couch' feel is part of its charm.:D

Go for it. They seem very responsive to the ideas of the fan base.
Also, they should slip this idea in a bit at a time, before the regular format gets stale (some will say it will never get stale, but when viewership goes down at ,say, ep 150, they might start floundering for ideas, when this one, if used sparingly, and suprisingly, will keep the viewers guessing...And then they might jump on it, only to find out it's too late.)

I love the idea, perhaps every so often they could have a contest to draw the guest host from their listening audience? Maybe when they travel they could hold some sort of contest ahead of time, say for example to have some lucky Londoner join them.

Maybe once a year there could be a bigger contest where they would fly the guest host to California to host the show, and give them a tour of Rev3 and a behind the scenes look at Digg and Rev3? I am sure they could easily afford a couple thousand dollars once a year, and if they did not want to pay for it themselves they could charge a small contest entrance fee.

These ideas all sound nice -- I agree with them all. Hopefully the people at diggnation digg this idea =)

PS. Add your support and give a digg: http://digg.com/tech_news/IDEA_A_guest_3rd_host_once_a_month_on_Diggnation

I wouldn't mind it. As long is it really would be every 4th show. Having 3 people on every show would be kind of annoying.

bman
10-02-2006, 06:21 PM
yea of course, we want it the same, just once in awhile something new like that.

obviously i don't think there'd be enough people to feature someone knew every show and it'd eat up too much time. so it'd have to be once every 4th show or so

they should just start pulling fans onto the show, from wherever there at.

I wouldn't mind as long as its people from other Rev3 shows... don't bring on some guy who we don't know and don't care about.

I agree. I wouldn't mind if ocassionally Dan, Jay, or someone like that joined the show. But even though the whole show is laid back, I don't want to watch a random person ruin the chemistry and flow of the show. Kevin and Alex(and the rest of Rev3) are professionals... they know what they're doing. A random fan isn't necessarily going to be able to handle being on camera and it would just ruin the flow of the show in my opinion.

I'm not sure but i think it might make me feel slightly disturbed seeing that, I mean it would be like getting smashed with an older member of the 'family' and taping it. Then again it would probably be very entertaining.

That's why I would like to see it. It would be a sight to see. Patrick would be cool too, but I believe he's a recovering achololic, so it probably wouldn't be the best enviorment for him.

I support this idea, possibly even extend it to TechTv personality's.

Yah I'm pretty sure I remember that being mentioned somewhere too. So maybe he can be on a show where they are recovering, a la Post Japan show. Or even another show like the Maker's Fair Systm episode.

Kevin and Alex mentioned my idea on the Episode 76 (December 14th 2006). Of course they naturally arrived at that idea on their own and didn't mention me or this thread -- They said every 4 weeks too, exactly like I proposed.

So anyway, the idea submission is still on digg.com; there's a link to it on either the first or second page of this thread. Feel free to dig it up even though i'm not sure what digging it will accomplish...but you don't have anything better to do, do you?

This would totally throw off the dynamic between Kevin and Alex and give it a more commercial, mainstream feel.

NoxDineen

They could just bring in somebody they know well, so there's a good dynamic and a third person's viewpoint.

I care less about web-fame and more about interesting and hilarious commentary.
