Sorry for this late post on Amazing Spiderman 591. I know it came out awhile ago, but I mailorder my comics so I get to read them a month late. As I was reading AMS 591, I was a little puzzled by the time distortion between the Macroverse and the real world.

Mr Fantastic explains that time in the Macroverse moves faster than the the reall world. For every hour that passes in the Marcoverse one week pasts in the real world. What is confusing is the in issue 590 the originally visit the marcoverse 2 years ago in real world time, and then return to the Macroverse to find themselves about hundred years later in time where the people of the Macroverse erect statues and 2 generations past. If Mr F theory was correct, 2 years passing in the real world would transalate to actually 20 days (based on a 24 hours day cycle) passing in the Macroverse.

Am I reading the book and interpreting it incorrectly? Does anyone in the room have a physics degree and can explain this?

If this has been explain in another thread or another BB, post the link. Thanks.

I think you're thinking about it too hard, man. The important thing to remember is that the guys writing these stories don't have physics degrees either. They're just playing around, and you should just ride along with them.

I agree with the first response, all is possible in the land of make believe. On the other hand, I think that they do try to answer your question, IIRC.

I think it is explained either in 591 or 592 that time actually occurs exponentially. That is, it isn't a linear correlation between the two times, but rather the more time they spend in the macroverse, time moves even faster. How this actually works, I don't care, but I think that's how they explain it.

There was also a little retcon panel in the latest ASM that might have referred to that, but I'd have to pull it out of my newly organized longbox. I'll check back later.

They actually mentioned this in the letters of page of the most current issue of ASM. They said something about how the math was wrong and ran a correction in the issue. I don't remember what it said off the top of my head. I try not to think too hard about math and science when the Fantastic Four are involved. i generally just grin like an idiot and enjoy the ride.

Dan Slott also talked about it on his interview on Word Balloon saying he messed up the dialoug but it will be fixed in the trade.

Here is an article from cbr that explains things.

As for me thinking too much and being nit picking, i believe comics should have consistency. if you tell me Spiderman has the powers of a spider and in the next page he can fly and he is from Kypton. I know that is an extreme situation, but it is very similar.

In the 1st part, we are told the time in Macroverse moves faster than the real universe and then in the 2nd part they state time in Marcoverse moves slower than the real universe, a contradictory statement. A good writer should explain the discrepancies, which Dan Slott later explains and plans to make corrections in the trade. (FYI, I love Slott's writing and have been following his comics since She-Hulk.)

I believe part of good storytelling is the story has to make sense. So when Spiderman's power change from one comic to another, I need to whether he got the Captain Universe powers again or he join the Legion of Superheroes.
