I'm in the middle of watching the first episode and if I'm not mistaken I hear a bunch of laughing sound effects. If I'm wrong then I'm sorry but I just find laugh tracks really annoying.

Sometimes it seems like a laugh track, especially with that woman with the high pitched voice talking about status updates. I didn't think her segment was funny either. Maybe that's why I thought it sounded like a laugh track though.

Exactly the comedian I thought had a laugh track. Update status in your head is not funny, so no need for that maniacal laughter.

If it is I want rid of it but it seems to me to be the live audience.
I really hate laughter tracks, live audience's I don't mind, especial in stand up but I don't like them on regular TV.

Yea I didn't find that funny either, maybe if we heard the build up to the joke, but it didn't sound like a laugher track more like a sympathy laugh.

Thank god! I laughed out loud maybe once throughout the whole show. When people were cracking up over the spacebook thing...I was like wow! Really?

Maybe they just spray the audience with laughing gas!

It's different with live comedy, and a full skit.

You chuckle a bit, get into their act, then start to laugh more as you get to know thier "persona."

I'd like to see more of her stuff, (a whole act) she kinda reminded me of the absurdist stuff of Judy Tenuta (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1ridwVQq4I), which cracked me up a few decades ago. I know both are kinda love them or hate them types. But that's what I love about stand up. Don't gotta love everyone, just find your faves and follow them.

There's no laugh track in the episodes 1 and 2.

Many comedy performances have both the comedian and audience recorded at the same time. It's usually done a few different ways.

1. One or more microphones are placed over the top of the audience in various locations. Usually omni-directional mics are used.

2. The use of "Boundary" microphones.

3. Dedicated sound guy (usually with a boom mic) that "aims" the mic at the audience. Usually is hanging out with an "audience" camera guy so as they don't end up in the shot.

You can usually tell where the mics are located because there is a few people that "stand out" from the rest of the audience. This could also be because of the acoustics of the room causing certain vocal frequencies to bounce around and hit the mic several times.

OK finally a place to get my question answered. For many years I have wondered what the hell is up with laugh tracks. Why do shows use them? they are soooooo annoying. I get that when recording live you cant really help it but good damn why add it in?
