Damn, those things are tiny and delicate. Jeeze.
Just got back from the hospital where my best friends had a baby. "Had" makes it seem soooo simple. "Had" a baby, like I "had" a cuppa coffee, or I "had" a fun time snowboarding.
13 hours of "labor", you know "labor" like at "work" putzing on the puter, coding a few websites, makin a couple a calls...
Ummmm. No.
Squeezing out an eight pound mound of living flesh through a body part the size of a half-dollar for an hour or two. Now THAT's "labor."
Ouch.
Anyway. All was well. Ten fingers, ten toes, yadda yadda.
But damn, I refused to hold the little critter. Scared Shitless I would drop the little beast...Could you imagine being the one who dropped you best freinds newborn...
(there goes that empathy thing again, huh, Aria?)

Eh. My dad's sister dropped me on my head in a bad way. And now that opens up joking about it. But she really did. Threw me up in the air and failed to catch me.
Yeah, babies are tiny. And you were one one. Look at any human and try to imagine that person inside another body.
i dont like babies lol, well not when im 18, 19 at least.

Dude, I witnessed by wife give birth to both of our children. I'll tell ya, it's the most amazing thing I've seen a woman's body do.
Our children were both less than eight pounds. They are tiny, useless little creatures. Not as frail as you would think, but entirely dependent on others to survive. That's where the wicked cuteness comes in. Humans have a genetic instinct to serve and protect cuteness. This is why good-looking people get such a great shot.
My wife was pretty torn up by both here deliveries. So, in each case, I got to hold the baby first.
My wife's best friend just had a preemie a few weeks ago...talk about putting the fragility of life in perspective - woah.

Hey man, don't feel bad there...I don't like holding others' babies either. It's not that they freak me out, I just don't feel the need or want to hold them. I can't wait to hold my own some day.

It's not that I don't want to. I really really want to. Li'l Jack is the closest thing this old queen will have to a child, or even a nephew/neice. Heck they named him after MY dad! Just wasn't the right time I guess. Luckily I had a dirty bandaid on an infected finger, so I had an excuse not to hold him.
That and the gramma was not going to give him up... ;)

.
That's what the father said too. He looked so drained and exhausted, yet the Mom was all chipper and chatty. Chicks are amazing. Wish I was Bi. :D

I've accepted not being able to conceive or carry, though I sometimes still get wistful. I always wanted to be a mommy and can't, and adopting with such an extensive medical history borders on impossible. When I was eight, I announced that I wanted to give birth to one, adopt at least two, and be a foster mom to at least three.
Children are litle miracles, and should be treated as such.
