We have The Girlfriend Experience with Sasha Grey, porn star. Klonoa brings platforming back to the Wii. Pre-E3 previews of Brutal Legend and Dark Void. Plus, 2 classic Kurt Busiek/Alex Ross comics!

Plus, Danny T.'s BIRTHDAY present!

EDIT: I'm really geeked out about Brutal Legend thanks to these guys, Tim Schafer and an OPEN WORLD with his crazy heavy metal world and hilarious Psychonauts-style comedy and gameplay.

Are there Star Trek spoilers in the show opening? I had to skip ahead when that's what it seemed like they were talking about.

Great Show as usual. The segment about the summer of 84 brought back a lot of memories. I was fifteen and I remember thinking how glad I was to be older than "PG-13" I saw Temple Of Doom 4 days in a row.

Good episode, reasonable intro not as good as last weeks but better than some of the others.
The conversation was better than the other episodes too it actually felt like Mikey happened to be filming a real conversation between these guys, which is good.

Yeah, I agree. Good episode guys..
LOL @ the dude in the underwear towards the end. That was pretty unexpected. Is it me or did that guy look a lot like Marshall on How I Met Your Mother?

I enjoyed the Ocean's movies, I really liked Traffic, but I don't want to watch The Girlfriend Experience, it doesn't seem to be something new. The only experimental movie I love (a lot), is Elephant. I don't think The Girlfriend Experience is going to give me a great "experience".
The summer of 84 was definetly great. Of the summers I have watched movies, it has to be:

2003 (http://www.imdb.com/ReleasedInYear?year=2003&country=USA&&nav=/Sections/Years/2003/include-byreleasedate) (May 1th-August 31st): X-men 2, 28 days later, Matrix reloaded, Bruce Almighty, Finding Nemo, The Italian Job, 2 fast 2 Furious, Hulk, Charlies Angels: Full Throttle, Curse of the Black Pearl, T3, Bad Boys 2, Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, Freaky Friday, Elephant, Le Tripletts de belleville, Lost in Translation, Kickin'
(I didn't watch all of those movies in 2003)

Klonoa seems like fun. A 2 1/2D games is creative, and I want to try it in the future. Dark Void seems also very fun. Brütal Legend is going to be the best game of 09! (together with Arkham Asylum and Starcraft 2 if released). Jack Black+Metal=awesomness. I'm so looking forward to this game.

You've won me over. I think I'd have to agree. 6 of my favorite movies of all time are in that list.. admittedly I was 12 and had lower standards.. but still. There isnt' anything on that list that wouldn't capture my attention if I flipped it on while channel surfing.

Dark Void sounds really cool. Looking at the videos of it, it kind of reminds me of Mass Effect. Im excited to play it.

Also, happy that the comics section returned!

Danny,

WHY IN THE PURPLE HELL HAVE YOU NOT SEEN PURPLE RAIN???

Appolonia Kotero is worth the price of admission alone, but you've got to see the pictures that accompany the best soundtrack of all time.

I don't mean to be rude because I know fan are donating their own time to create these new intros, but they are nearly unbearable.

I don't understand the direction to go "user created YouTube videos" and I for one really do wish you guys would bring the old intros back... I mean why stop when they start getting really good!? :(

Sorry if I upset anyone. Am I the only one who feels this way?

The one thing that I couldn't help but wonder during Alex's discussion of "The Marvels" -- Did you just not recognize the FF / Namor stuff, or did it eventually occur to you that the things you're seeing aligned with some of the major parts of Marvel history.

SPOILER
...like a certain iconic battle between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin?
...or the coming of Galactus?

(I haven't read 'The Marvels' in awhile, but I do recall these as being fairly major events.)

/SPOILER

It's hard for me to get the 'cape and cowl' declaration without a certain familiarity with the touchstones of the cape and cowl set.

I loved Busiek's run at Marvel (Thunderbolts, Avengers, etc.), but I could never bring myself to make the jump to his other stuff. I'm a Marvel zombie, because of the larger world and its history....and because I don't want to have to know as much about other comic chronologies as I do about Marvel. ;)

I appreciate the creativity and thought that went in to the user-submitted intro, but at the same time, the call-back to one of the final TRS-opens (the HBO music) is a stinging reminder of what came before it.

Danny,

WHY IN THE PURPLE HELL HAVE YOU NOT SEEN PURPLE RAIN???
.

Took the words right out of my mouth. My Golly the music. And the clothing, wow.

What is funny is that about 5 of the movies listed were staples in the 24 hour movie marathon my high school drama club would watch every year for our annual fundraiser. Purple Rain was one of them. That list sent me right down memory lane...

Maybe Dan and I can get together to see the movie together. He has the excuse of potentially being too young when it came out.. the only excuse I have is that I don't like Prince.

I am so glad somebody else said it first.
Some of his songs are OK but I really never had any desire to watch a whole Prince movie. Curiosity and an increase of pop cultural knowledge are really the only reasons I have for watching it. (I thought another reason might be that it had the Prince chick from "The Last Dragon", but turns out it has the other Prince chick.)

Well, putting aside the reason of not caring for one of the best musical minds and performers of our time for a second (as hard as that is for me to do, because I think Prince is nearing untouchable, legendary status). :D Purple Rain is the album people who hate Prince even love, and it's what makes this movie so special. The premise to the movie itself couldn't be more simple, but it's the marriage of the music to the movie that really takes PR to another level. In fact, I might even see where not caring for Prince might even make you enjoy the movie even more, as it is built upon the theme of everyone (the audience, the club ownership, and even members of his own band) not "getting" what he (Prince) is trying to do as an artist. From The Celebrity Cafe:

The Kid (Prince), a young and troubled man seeks to understand himself better through his gift of music. The Kid performs in a Minneapolis club where his creative blend of stage escapades and song have been becoming more misunderstood by his fans and the members of the band. The Kid is losing ground fast and if he doesn't connect to an audience soon, he'll be tossed out of the club scene.

The Kid soon finds a piece of heaven with a sexy and promising singer named Apollonia (Apollonia), who looks to The Kid for some solid advice on marking her talent. But with so much turmoil in The Kid's personally and professionally life, he might just be giving up the one chance he has on discovering what it means to have love in his life and succeeding as a true performer. If you go in without expectations you'll probably dig it. If you go in as a fan of his music to any degree whatsoever, you'll love it because all the mega-hits are not only there, but are written in as part of the narrative and advance the story. A great accomplishment for the intersection of film and music, IMO.

Color me intrigued. Music aside, though, Prince's persona just really grates on me, and the prospect of feature-length grating is probably what's keeping me from seeing it. But I just added it to my Netflix queue so it will come up eventually.

I am definitely excited for Brutal Legend because Tim Schafer creates wonderful unique games which are genuinely funny. I am cautiously optimistic about Dark Void, it looks interesting but kind of generic, could be a Dead Space, but could be a Dark Sector (not saying Dark Sector is bad, just generic).

Well, make no mistake - the "Purpleness" is there in full effect. Just try to remember that this was for the most part the beginnings of that grating persona that not many had been exposed to prior.

I forgot to mention how Totally Rad Morris Day and The Time are in this film (and in general).
