For the 2nd straight week no one has put this up for us to discuss new comics! So I will start with my fresh patch of comic goodness.....and Savage Dragon.
(Spoilers abound beyond this point!)
======================================
Azrael Death Dark Knight #3: All and all this was a pretty damn good mini. The 2nd issue suffered from some weird 'gangsta rap' type of diaologue. But this was no where to be seen (or I guess read) in this issue. This new Azrael is an intriguing new character and the art by Irving is down right gorgeous. With an ongoing Azrael series coming out this fall; everyone should give this a try.
Green Lantern Corps #36: Something very shocking for me in this issue. Patrick Gleason actually did great art in this....for a second straight issue! Usually he has a pattern of good then bad but here it was all great. Tomasi is juggling a lot of stories into this arc but it's all fun. If only Mongul can have his own series...
Punisher: Frank Castle MAX #70-(PICK OF THE WEEK) This was my pick for the smallest of margins. It won the right of the best because of Duane S. perfect voice for Frank Castle. The pages where Castle is embracing death and then only finding out he's still alive...great stuff right there. Plus some of the best art in a Marvel book. This should be the creative team permanently on the MAX series if the Aaron/Dillion rumors are false.
Savage Dragon #148: If I was a terrorist being held by the CIA, this would replace waterboarding as my torture. This is pretentious, crappy 90's action comics. Image should be getting away from this pointless hero (and also Spawn) and get on with the rest of the industry. I feel pity for anyone who actually bought this issue and not the FCBD version.
The Unwritten #1: One of the 3 comic titles (starting concinidentally with the letter U) being hyped this week. While I dont think this is a bad issue...like Savage Dragon....it didnt make me think: 'Wow, this is Vertigo's next big hit'. It's strange cause usually Vertigo series are great on #1 issues. The art by Gross was really good though, so I would recommend it for the art alone. Again this isnt bad, but it's definitely trade waiting for me.

Small week for me. Only 4 issues.
LockJaw and the pet avengers: I bought it for the cover by Karl Kerschl, and overall I liked it. I love hairball.
Final Crisis Escape: um....Intriguing. I some what confused me, but that was the point. I felt like I was reading the filth all over again. The art just blew me away. That double page spread was just amazing. Might be my POW, I will have to re-read it. 4.5/5
Action Comics: Another great issue. Rucka has been doing a great job on this book. 4/5
Green lantern Corps: Fantastic issue. This book has almost become as good as Green Lantern. It is just sooo much fun. And does any one else feel that Sodam Yat will be apart of the indigo corps? For some reason i got the feeling he will be in this issue.

I only pulled 3 books this week and my shop got shorted on one so I only got:
Walking Dead #61: This was a fantastic issue, I loved the art on this. Charlie Adlard did a fantastic job on the facial expressions, the anguish. The shock. [SPOILERS] I really like where things are going now and can't wait to see who the guys at the end of the issue are!
Unwritten #1: I've never read anything by Mike Carey but I did like the premise and it was only a $1 so I gave it a shot. I definitely enjoyed the issue but for some reason it did not hook me like most first issues from Vertigo books tend to it. Never the less I will still pick up issue #2.

So far have read
Green Lantern Corps: Good solid issue, however, with Sodam Yat, I feel that there are just no stakes, as we already know he lives until Legion of Three Worlds
Wolverine: Liked both stories. THe first story was nice, amusing, and hit the charictarisations well. Would have been better if almost the same thing had not been done is Savage Dragon recently. The second story was fine, and the art was spectacular.
Oracle the cure part three: Well, this was fine. Nothing special, decent story. However, the fact that it ended with "continued in Batgirl number one" supports my earlier woes about oracle getting to walk again, although she wasn't cured in this, so we'll see.
G. I. Joe cobra #3: Another fantastic issue, this series is really really good.
Only been able to get through a few books so far this week. Most of them have been solid, bu nothing really stands out quite yet.
Green Lantern Corps was...okay. I felt that this issue lost a lot of steam from last issue. It probably has to do with the really wordy opening. A more condensed version would have sufficed, and I would have loved to see more panels dedicated to specific moments of the prison riot. The ending sequence was good, but I get the feeling that it's not really going to matter because they will not kill Mongul. I'm not saying I'm off the title, but this was one of the weaker issues I've read.
Elephantmen was good as always although I'd like to see them get back to the action with the actual Elephantmen. The look into the women of the book has been a nice departure, but I love the book for its pulpy, noir storylines, which these have not been. A solid comic overall though.
Echo was good, but again, nothing overally amazing about it. I was kind of confused about what was going on because I had completely spaced on what had come before it. The story seems to be hit or miss for me issue to issue. Some issues Moore is on fire and writes really well, and other times, it just seems he's dragging his feet. Visually, though, the book is really, really strong.
Wolverine was pretty good as well. The Adam Kubert art was so awesome, and I loved the take on Wolverine's life. Way's story was pretty good and Tommy Lee Edwards' art was great. I think this will make a nice two issue set when 74 comes out later on.
So far have read
Green Lantern Corps: Good solid issue, however, with Sodam Yat, I feel that there are just no stakes, as we already know he lives until Legion of Three Worlds.
I got the impression that this takes place afterward. I think there was a part about him not taking off the ring because he would die from lead poisoning from his battle with Superboy Prime. My thought is that this has something to do with the conclusion of that series.

Throg is bad ass.
Secret Six was as amazing as always. Sad to see that Josh only gave it a 3, but glad he tried the thing. I love Ragdoll.
Walking Dead was full of shocking moments. Great issue yet again.
G.I. Joe Cobra #3 was easily the best in the whole series. And that is saying alot. I am loving this series.
Action Comics and DR: Young Avengers were both OK. Action was solid, just not as exciting for me as the two previous issues.
GLC was amazing as well. Starting to like Sinestro a lot now. I think that might make me a Nazi...

Ok, so
The Unwritten: Awesome. Loved it, best deal in comics. This blew me away. Really. It did have me worried a tad towards the middle, but by the end I was totally on board. Everyone should pick this up.
Action Comics: Good. Not great, solid. This series is still fantastic, there is not a bad superman book right now.
Secret Six (POTW) I loved this issue. So much fun, perfect chariterizations, funny when it tried to be, and the story came full circle. I thought this issue was perfect, however, I do hope they star an arc now. Although, maybe it would be fun just to have a ton of one and done stories. We'll see.....I love this series.

blah blah blah
So.. you bring up Deadpool at the drop of a hat and have a cool Deadpool on a Vespa avatar but you didn't read this weeks extra special Deadpool: Suicide Kings? I can't believe it..
speaking of that book.. it was, um, interesting. Wasn't a fan of the way Frank was drawn. Wasn't terribly interested in the story or where it's headed. Not sure where the love triangle between Wade, Frank and Matt will go in the next issue. A crime fighter, a vigilante and a mercenary walk into a bar..
But some of the Deadpool art was fun and some of the gruesome ways Frank let him have it were interesting. For a quiet week of comics, this was a fun, if not pointless, adventure.

I wasn't over the moon about anything this week. . .
ACTION comics -- Picked it up b/c I like Rucka and I like Lois Lane, and I heard a description of the previous couple issues that sounded interesting. I think it's decent but I'm not sure I'm into the story enough to keep following it. May just wait for 'Detective' go get my Rucka fix.
ECHO -- Solid issue, great art as always, and it was my pick. I'm still sort of waiting for the story to go to the next level, though, it seems like there's been buildup for a long time.
UNWRITTEN -- I was really impressed with the art on this, but I didn't so much get into the story. Neat high concept, but the Potter-pastiche was a bit too precious, and I wasn't that compelled by the characters that I'm dying for more. I'll probably let this one be.
XFACTOR -- Last issue was amazing, this one was fun comics but didn't blow me away. I want more Ruby Summers! Curious to see where the Jamie/Layla thing is going, though, and I know some fans of a certain era will be thrilled to see Shatterstar show up.

I hate weeks like this, wherein my pullist is filled with a huge magnitude of MEH titles (with the exception of X-Factor, of course :-D)
X-Factor #43 (POTW!): Nothing is ever cliche with Peter David's dialog, and this issue is a great example of that. Alot of us kinda saw where the storyline of Jamie and Layla was going, but the way its led up to and its execution left me with a smile I can only get from reading this book. I love the cover and corresponing splash page too! Who knows, next issue Peter David may even do the impossible: Making Shatterstar cool.
Dark Reign: Hawkeye #2: When everyone was bashing #1, I stood up for it, saying that it was chock full of non-consequential Bullseye fun. That was the same for most of this book too...until the last few pages. This metaphysical cliffhanger made me throw down the book and scream LAME!!!
Dark Reign: Young Avengers #1: I only bought this book because it had Mark Brooks on art. Incidently, I had some faith that Cornell can pull off a good story. After reading, I really just didn't care. Maybe the latter issues will turn this feeling around, but this is definably the MEH of the week. Still love the art though.
Deadpool: Suicide Kings #2: I'm starting to have a teensy bit more faith in Mike Benson's tales of my favorite Merc With a Mouth after this one. I like how Gail Simone's Deadpool run was referenced, as that is my second favorite run of this character. This looks more like the Deadpool we all know and love, and I may even forgive Benson for Deadpool: Games of Death.
Green Lantern Corps #36: I'm still a bit wet behind the ears on reading this series, but I'm glad to see that someone besides Geoff Johns can write a good Green Lantern story. The confrontation between Sinestro and Soranik is going up there as one of my favorite scenes, and almost made this book POTW.
Wolverine #73: Who would have thought Daniel Way can write a good Wolverine story? If Marvel is gonna publish more extraneous Wolverine stories, I'm at least glad they put some big gun creators on it. Aaron and Kubert's story was a funny inside joke to all us thinking that Logan is streched a bit too thin in the Marvel U.
Havent read Captain Britain or Secret Warriors yet, reading the previous issues first to get caught up on the story. Will be back!

I guess in your eyes it's the first time I'm rambling something that isnt about Deadpool. If that was you with the quote 'blah blah blah' for me....good job, that made me laugh :)
But if you read that one-shot Benson did a couple of months back. You'd know why I have no reason to read this mini right now. That one-shot was god awful; it still one of the worst comics I read this year. Buuuttt....if the people who are loving this book are the same people who thought the one-shot was shit....Maybe this is something worth getting into. It's a slow week for me next week, maybe I'll try the first issue.

What's the metaphysical cliffhanger?
Re: X-Factor, I hope there's a twist or two coming along with the Jamie/Layla story. I'm not really buying that they're in love, I hope there's something else going on here.

Re: X-Factor, I hope there's a twist or two coming along with the Jamie/Layla story. I'm not really buying that they're in love, I hope there's something else going on here.
Hawkeye Bullseye is seeing a Bullseye Bullseye figment of his imagination, and is driving him batty. There has to be one hell of a power play on Diggle's part to make this palpable in the future issues.
As for X-Factor, there's always a twist...and a good one! That's why we all love this book :)
Amidst the insanity of my day, I was able to polish off Unwritten #1, which I enjoyed immensely. This looks like it will be a great Vertigo series to get into. I'm loving the art. I read that this team also did Lucifer, which I've heard is good. I may jump into that one at some point as well. Anyways, so far, Unwritten is the best book I've read this week.

Action Comics #877 - I'm really enjoying this series as it unfolds. This run has popped my Rucka cherry, and he's quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. I love the ending, it reminded me of the couple that holds up the cafe at the beginning of Pulp Fiction.
Azrael Deaths Dark Knight #3 - This series really surprised me. I think it has something to do with my obsession with religious themes. Michael Lane (that's his name, right?) has huge character potential, and I'm definitely in for the new ongoing. I hope they keep the artist for the ongoing, because he really drew the crap out of this mini.
Captain Britain And Mi 13 #13 - As somebody else mentioned in their review of this, I love that so much craziness is going on. I'm not even sure if there is a status quo anymore. That last panel with Dracula in parliament made me wet my pants.
Green Lantern Corps #36 - With each successive GL release, I get more and more excited for Blackest Night. I love that there seems to be 20 (ok, more like 3) different things going on in this book. I loved the cliffhanger and can't wait to see how this all leads into BN.
Savage Dragon #148 - This issue seemed to cause quite a stir. I've been loving Dragon since #145. It's just the perfect blend of interesting plot twists, crazy action, and Chicago for me. I love it, and I will continue to read it as long as Larsen continues to pour his soul into it. I do agree that it was a bad FCBD issue. #145 would have been my choice for FCBD.
Secret Six #9 - Well, I bought this book because it was a semi-slow week. I figured since it was technically a BFTC tie-in, and I did bu Man-Bat, so what the hell? I'm so glad I gave this a shot. It tickled me in all the right ways. It's nothing like any other book I'm pulling. If next week ends up slow as well, I might pick up #8. If that tickles me as well, I may just have to add this to my pulls. It was oh so close to being PotW for me, but...
Unwritten #1 - This book blew me away. I dunno, it might be because I've never experienced a #1 issue from Vertigo before, or it might be because I'm a relative comics newb, but this was an outstanding read. There is so much story there, and so much Carey can do with it. I'm really excited for where this book goes. They took a fantastical idea and really made it believable. If Harry Potter was thought to have been based on a real person, rabid fans would totally act like they do in this book. The art is so good in terms of storytelling. It matches the tone perfectly. There are so many little things that just add up to a very fulfilling read. It is just genius so far. I'm hoping Carey has something really crazy planned out and doesn't go the obvious route.
So there you have it. Another week of comics under my belt!
Paged through the Umbrella Academy this morning, and it was a damn fine issue. I will admit that I was a little lost through a majority of it because I had forgot a lot of what had happened in the previous issues. This week, I'm going to re-read all the issues. This is going to make an outstanding trade. For an issue though, it was pretty good. It looked amazing, but my confusion really hurt it as a single issue.
Finally finished my stack by polishing off Action Comics. It was a pretty good issue, although it didn't do anything mind blowing. It's nice to be moving the story along, and I really like the deceptive layers that Rucka is putting into the title. The distrust that everyone is feeling in the book is great.
Can someone fill me in on who the heck the chick with the painted face is that hangs out with General Lane? I have no idea who she is.

A good week for me...
GI Joe: Cobra was the first book in a long time that made me say "oh shit" out loud. That was great stuff.
X-Factor also had an "oh shit" moment but in a very different way. I can't wait to see what they do with Shatterstar in the future. Hell, I'll say it...I missed him and I'm glad he's back. He may be the personification of Rob Liefeld comic books, but I don't care.
Secret Six was my POTW. Hey, if Ragdoll really was Robin, I'd probably care about the Batman books.
Secret Warriors is officially on notice. They've got until issue 6 to get me or this is dropped. I love the art and I love Nick Fury but I really have no clue as to what's going on.
BPRD: Black Goddess...well....that's over with.
Dark Reign: Hawkeye. I have no idea where this is going or why I should care, but I started it, so I have to finish it.
Elephentmen continues it's streak of goodness. I just wish the covers were a little less cheesecake.

Green Lantern Corps #36 - It amazes me that both Tomasi and Gleason can tell three different stories in one single issue. Not only that, but to keep each story so action-packed! You have Sinestro and Soranik, the jail break in the Oa Science Cells, and Ion vs Mongul, all in one issue! Killer stuff, and well worth your money.
Action Comics #877 - I've been consistently bored with this title ever since Superman's absence. I simply don't care about these characters, despite Robinson & Rucka's best efforts.
Secret Warriors #4 - Cool to see Nick Fury running with his old partner Dugan & the Howling Commandos, but pretty lackluster issue in general. I love Hickman's Howling Commandos emblem though! That man is a graphic design genius!
Captain Britain & MI: 13 #13 - If I had a ".5" episode this week, this would have definitely been a contender. Dracula's armada flying through space, endless hordes of the undead vs MI:13, it was such an entertaining issue overall.
Unwritten #1 - I got bored of the obvious Harry Potter rip-off, and was unamused by the twist of 'he really is the character in the books!'. Then again, I've never been a huge fan of Mike Carey's stuff in general. But still, I like how the number one issue was only $1.
Wolverine #73 - I was pretty ticked-off that this one-shot filled with different stories replaced the fantastic Old Man Logan storyline. Dick move on Marvel's part. I did enjoy Jason Aaron's attempt to organize Logan's weekly schedule since they guy is in literally ten different books a month.
The Walking Dead #61 - The grizzly murder kind of reminded me of Cain & Abel a bit, only in this case God didn't tell the one brother to kill his twin. It was nice to see Carl play judge, jury, and executioner since none of the parental units had the balls to. I also like the introduction of a new man of god to the party, and how everyone is pretty much over religion ever since the prison incident.
Secret Six #9 - Forget Morrison's upcoming Batman & Robin, I want more of Simone's Catman & Rag Doll! Rag Doll in the Boy Wonder outfit had me in stitches! This Battle For The Cowl tie-in was simply an outstanding read focusing only on Catman, Rag Doll, and Bane as they prevent some political kidnappings from happening in Gotham since the absence of Batman. My only plea is that Simone & Scott stay on this title forever.
Oracle #3 - This three-issue mini wasn't short enough. Too much Second Life / MMO action, and I've hated the Calculator redesign from the more recent Birds Of Prey arc. If you're going to get Babs out of that chair and walking again, you gotta get me interested with some good story telling, not this cannon fodder. Save your money, and look for it in the quarter bins at Cons.
Battle For The Cowl: Azrael: Death's Dark Knight #3 - Although this mini started strong, it went straight downhill after issue one story-wise. I personally enjoyed it for the art alone.
Terry Moore's Echo #12 - The art and story for this sci-fi epic continue to blow me away every month. The additional metal on her ever-growing suit, the tracking, the adventure, it all screams blockbuster film when the series eventually ends.
The Umbrella Academy: Dallas #6 - Hands-down my pick of the week. This second volume was just as captivating and exciting as the first, and Way's creative story-telling and Ba's gorgeous art really fused together to create probably my favorite series of 2009 (so far). From the shoot-out in the book depository, to ice cream for everyone at the end, I simply cannot wait for the deluxe edition hardcover to add to my collection! A+++, and highly recommended to everyone who loves comic books.
Dark Reign: Hawkeye #2 - The last page had me laughing outloud. Not because it was suppose to be comedic, but because of how ridiculous the situation was. Hawkeye just falls out of a building shouting "nooo!"? The moment was so bad, it's funny. Marvel certainly does have balls for putting a $3.99 price tag on this title, for it's not worth it at all!
G.I. Joe: Cobra #3 - Pretty damn grim issue. While we find our Joe moving-up the corporate COBRA ladder, he discovers the hard way that with new responsibilities comes new sacrifices, even if it means executing a fellow agent out of mercy. This series is by far my favorite of all the current G.I. Joe titles at IDW, and I can't recommend it enough. My only complaint is about those horrible Chaykin covers.
Fables #84 - While I love Jack, he's an absolute slimey bastard that you just want to hate forever. Maybe that's why I like him so much. Jack pretty much has it all in this issue; new job, he's mistaken for the second coming of Boy Blue, and he's hooking-up with Rose Red on an hourly basis and is taking advantage of her to the fullest extent. Only problem; his son Jack Frost has finally caught-up with him, and Jack might not be ready to be a father quite yet. The Great Fables Crossover continues to be so much fun, all thanks mainly to Jack (he told me to write that).
Booster Gold #20 - While it was interesting to see Booster help create the Rocket Reds program we all know and love today, these issues have just continued to go downhill ever since Johns left the title. I'll be surprised if this series makes it past issue 30.
Final Crisis Aftermath: Escape #1 - What the fuck did I just read?! I didn't even remember dropping some acid before reading this issue! Such a continuous clusterfuck throughout the entire issue, that I definitely will not be picking-up the next issue, and as your attorney I advise you to do the same.
Deadpool: Suicide Kings #2 - While I wasn't sure if I'd like this mini based on the first issue, I can now safetly say that I LOVE it! In this issue you have Deadpool vs the Punisher, and Frank Castle just wipes the floor (err, apartment) with Wilson. It was sooo bloody and jam-packed with humor, Deadpool reminded me of the Black Knight from Monty Python & The Holy Grail. Add in a little Daredevil at the end, and I'm totally staying with this mini.
B.P.R.D. The Black Goddess #5 - A very satisfying end to this volume. We even get some more Lobster Johnson goodness at the end!
House of Mystery #13 - While I enjoyed the different artists in this issue (Eric Powell? *swoons*), I just wasn't digging the different stories all that much. Yes, I get that it's issue 13, I just didn't see the need to focus on the number in every short story.
Unthinkable #1 - Lotta hype on this book after the writer was detained at LAX when security found his script of the first issue, but sadly in my opinion this issue didn't live up to said hype. Pretty 'meh' if anything. I'll pick-up issue 2, but I'm not going to hold my breath in hopes of improvement.
Savage Dragon #148 - I was excited to hop-on to the series after the jumping on point a few issues back, but now I've sort of lost interest, and am sort of becoming confused, all at the same time.
Black Panther #4 - Wait, she's not going to be the next Black Panther?! As much as I want to see T'Challa fight his way back from limbo and reclaim his mantle and throne, at least give the newbie a chance to unsheathe her claws!
Unknown #1 - Pass. That's 0/2 in my book for BOOM! Studios this week.
Gravel #11 - Oh I am sooo loving this series! Like I've said in previous reviews, it's like Harry Potter meets Tarantino, accompanied by glorious art. Another masterpiece from Ellis that you should be picking-up without hesitation.

I'm gald I'm not the only one who thought the Harry Potter references got old quick. While I totally agree with what paul/paper states about why this book could be good. There was just too many references to HP and even Fables to warrent another issue. You gonna try it at least one more time in trade like me?
Battle For The Cowl: Azrael: Death's Dark Knight #3 - Although this mini started strong, it went straight downhill after issue one story-wise. I personally enjoyed it for the art alone.
See I think the 2nd issue dipped in quality. But the 3rd issue was really strong. No bad diaologue by Lane and a pretty good end to set us up for the ongoing. What made the 3rd issue go downhill for you?

Damnit....Now I have to get this....But Mike Benson was a bad writer on Deadpool before! Why is he suddenly so great at this now? Now with Punisher AND Daredevil involved...it seems like a callback to the great Niczeia/Simone era.

I'll see what progress is made in the second issue, but I'm pretty sure I'll wait for the trade.

I know! I loathed Games of Death, so he was already in the red for me, but then out of nowhere he scores big with Suicide Kings! I was a very rewarding issue.

'Unwritten' -- I didn't really care for it, but I don't get calling it a rip-off. Carey wasn't trying to hide the HP resemblances, that was the point of the story. It's like calling 'Fables' a Snow White ripoff.

Even if Carey isnt doing an outright copy or homage to HP. The problem is that he is taking the characteristics and spirit of the book; and try to make an original story out of it. Plus he also takes the spirit of Fables in that these fictional characters are going into the real world.
What original material is in this comic? I found nothing original in it, that is the biggest problem.

What original material is in this comic? I found nothing original in it, that is the biggest problem.
Well, someone who liked the book more than I did will have to defend it, but I'm just saying that calling it a ripoff misses the point of what Carey is trying to do. Though as some people have pointed out, the setup owes at least as much to Christopher Robin Milne as it does to Harry Potter.

I really don't see why anyone would think it is a "rip off," "tribute," "homage," or anything. It seems pretty clear the premise is "What if the Harry Potter books were based on a real person like the Christopher Robin concept for the Winnie the Pooh stories? But what if, there was more than meets the eye? Oh, and the writer was a it eccentric and disappeared completely?"
Pretty simple at this point.
I really see no reason to even think of Fables (and I hadn't until you repeatedly mentioned it) because there has been nothing to indicate the Tommy Taylor stories were "real." Perhaps some things are based in reality, perhaps the author is more than just mysterious, perhaps...perhaps nothing has really been established for anyone to say "Oh, this series is trying to do _________!" The bad guy who captures Tommy? Is he a real character? Is he some loon who wants to be the character from a book? Who knows?
As for originality...what?
Even if the whole point was "What if Harry Potter was real?" How is that any less original than the Punisher. A guy who witnesses his family murdered, dresses in black and takes down criminals. Oh wait, he shoots or stabs them to death, that's the originality. I like the Punisher, so this isn't a knock, but how on earth could you take issue with the fact that it wasn't "original?" Would aliens be original? Secret agents? Cowboys? The fact is, it is way to early to say this isn't original, but even if the premise isn't original, the craft of the stories is what is good or not. It's the reason you can love the latest issue of Punisher: the actual story, not the concept or premise. Right?

I think it was real obvious that was an actual vampire. Cause that would explain the really sharp teeth and massive strength. Okay obviously it's a bit much to give a #1 issue crap for something we dont know what is gonna happen. But overall as a comic; I just didnt like it.
Forget the HP and Fable references I saw personally....and I saw was a pretty boring comic overall. Even for a 40 page comic it went by pretty fast. Not a whole lot of character development and pretty obvious signs (to me anyways) where this plot will go. Again I am all for a first trade on this....but as a single issue it did nothing to wow me.

Secret Warriors continues to build at a great pace. It is now clear that the reason we got an 'in media res' first couple of issues was because the real focus of the book isn't going to be that young super team. No, that was a failure (at least for now). The book is really going to be about the rebuilding of the Howling Commandos and (hopefully) a continued 3-way fight between Hammer, Hydra and Fury's operatives. In other words, it's being written for the long-haul we're just getting to the first pay-off now at issue 5.
Any book where you can get DumDum and Fury talking about shared sexual exploits over beers is pure comic book gold.

Captain Britain and Mi-13 continues to rock in wild and crazy ways. I'll say it again - just because the UK isn't America (where 99% of Marvel action occurs), Cornell seems to have been given free rein to mess up whatever he sees fit... and that is awesome. Slaughtering the entire British Parliament? That is hilarious and fantastic and way over the top. I applaud. I hope they just keep letting him go, because he's doing great.

Just like the way Marvel gave Abnet and Lanning free reign to do whatever they want in the Marvel U space and all the cosmic related characters, Cornell should have complete and total control over everything British!

Well since you brought it up. I didnt really enjoy Nova I read a few issues and it just didnt grab me. I do want to get into the events though. So if I just read Guardians of the Galaxy will that keep me up to speed? I think that book is more my speed, and I just hate to go into events cold. War of Kings looks great so I am hoping GotG will make it an easy transition.

Not only will it keep you up to speed, but its so incredibly entertaining and you literally need no back knowledge of anything Cosmic Marvel related. For example, prior to reading GotG, I never read any of the recent cosmic stuff (like any of the Anihilation series, Nova, etc...). I picked up the first trade of GotG, and was hooked and immersed immediatly. I'm a little behind on the series now, as I've only read the first issue with the War Of Kings banner, and that gives a good window the the current state of events going on in space.
If you want to get into War Of Kings, however, I'm pretty sure knowledge of prior cosmic books is not needed. I mean, they would help in making a broader window of events, but this event is completely self-contained, IMO. Be sure to pick up the War of Kings Prolouge, however, as it's quite crucial to the story.

Yet for some reason, Tommy was surprised at that guy's strength even though he seemed to know him. I think he even said "How did you get so strong?" or something like that. As for sharp teeth, I've seen people on the Discovery Channel who file their teeth to be sharp. In any, case the scene clearly indicates there was more than meets the eye and more than just a this-character-from-a-fictional-story-is-real kind of premise

Cool. If you didn't like it, you didn't like it. That you found it boring/slow seems more valid to me than thinking it was too similar a premise to something else.

... and once again I prove to have the kiss of death. It used to only apply to relationships but now it needs to find other places to pop up. Stupid gipsy curse.
