To record YouTube audio from a web browser for free just use the Sound Recorder. It's at: Start Menu - All Programs - Accessories - Entrertainment - Sound Recorder
in Windows XP.
First a BLANK FILE has to be created to avoid the Sound Recorder limit of 60 seconds of recording time. Open the Sounds and Other Devices control panel and make sure to record from a selected device that is not connectied. Open Sound Recorder and record with NO audio input for 60 seconds. Save this file. Select Insert File... under the Edit menu. Do this multiple times to extend the recordable time limit. Make sure the time limit is extended before going to the next step. Save this file. Open this new file in Sound Recorder.
Open the the Sounds and Other Devices control panel again and select Wave Out Mix under the Recording Tab and adjust the slider to the desired level.
Next go to YouTube in Internet Explorer and select the video. Press record in Sound Recorder and then Play in YouTube. Save this file in PCM (.wav), .wma or other formats. Sampling rate, number of bits per sample and either stereo or monaural sound options are available.
