View Full Version : Jeff, undershirts were made for a reason...

Jeff I love you're enthusiasm and commentary but you've gotta do something about the perspiration. Alex mentioned several times that the "TRS studio" is hot as hell, so you have to anticipate that and prepare accordingly. Love the show keep it real!

Does it personally bother you that much? Or, are you that pseudo-concerned for Jeff's comfort ?

lol, no it doesn't bother me i just thought it was odd that i noticed how much jeff was perspiring and thought i'd make a comment about it, i figured other people would notice that as well. one of those huge fans from sams club would definitely help, althought i guess it would make too much sound and interfere with their mics

Yeh, a/c and fans can't be run during the show.
Are you new to the show and unaware of the past sweating episodes. Very VERY funny the first time it happened. I honestly think Dan losing it over Jeff's sweating in the first 'season' was one of the funniest TRS moments.

I feel for Jeff because I am hyperhydrotic. I can and have sweat through a suit in winter weather. It just started happening within that last few years too so I'm not sure what changed but it is really annoying. These days, within minutes of putting on a shirt (undershirt included, so don't think that will solve everyone's problem pal), I have armpits rings.
What I'd love to know is how Danny can wear a light gray long-sleeved shirt and NOT have dark, wet circles under his arms. If I were to wear that shirt, the sleeves would look like I'd dunked my arms to the shoulder in a swimming pool. I'm envious of guys like Danny who don't seem to be plagued by such an annoying... erm, I'll say "condition" but I don't want to make it sound like a disease that needs an annual benefit marathon or anything.
Jeff, I feel for you. Don't be discouraged by folks like dynabetic who, bless their hearts, might not have the same issue that guys like us have. And before anyone suggests that new clinical strength anti-perspirant in additon to undershirts, don't bother. I use it but it doesn't make a damned bit of difference.

Me thinks they should punch a hole in the side of whatever garage they're now in (currently can't remember) and then connect the garage to an AC unit that is safely stowed outside the garage to reduce the noise of the AC unit. It could be a dan becomes a man segment where he learns all about HVAC systems, the creation of a vent in the wall and the manipulation of duct work.
We've "suffered" through crickets, failing batteries, lawn mowers and ice cream trucks..the sound of AC being pumped through a vent shouldn't cause that much of a stir.

I feel for Jeff too. I also wonder what else he could do besides change shirts. Undershirt didn't sound too bad. And we know not about some kind of "condition" he has, so I don't wanna jump to conclusions and say an undershirt won't help. He just looks really uncomfortable which kinda makes me feel uncomfortable for him since he can't just stop tape or get up and leave and go change. I usually wear an undershirt (like a white tee not a "wifebeater" they're too thin) especially here in Texas. Gets kinda hot during the summer and I don't like sweat visible on my shirt(s). Also, dark colors on the outside kinda help mask it if it does soak through. It's a bit harder to tell on say a black shirt than a baby blue one. But whatever it's up to him what he wants to do. I just think we (dynabetic and I) care about the guy. That's all. lol.

It was also occurring a few weeks ago when we had an overnight switch to summer from winter and had a 3 day heat wave (+80˚ at night) in which Jeff wore that off-white/silverish button up shirt during recording and was drenched throughout, but most noteicably, and the reason I asked about how many episodes you've seen, was the episode Generosity (#24? I think), where Jeffs sweating caused the funniest moment IMO on TRS. 37mins in to the episode, go watch it.

It's not necessarily the sound of the a/c, it's the electrical cycle that will most likely mess up the sound, and possibly even the picture.

Even if it were outside the garage? If proximity is the problem, more ducting... maybe they could use exceptionally large ducting so they can play out their John McClane fantasies.. they can't be the first people to need a solution to an AC problem on a makeshift sound studio.

They could get lucky, but if it runs off the same power as the camera and mixer, it has a good chance of wobbling the kHz enough to be noticed, sometimes including the video image.
I don't think it's worth this much worry actually, they can do off-camera things to cool themselves and to cool the room, to deal with the 1-2 hrs they have to suffer. Some people pay good money to detoxify like that.
P.S. "wobbling the kHz", is the official term. ;)

hey dude I have hyperhydrosis too. I only have it in my hands though. I will sweat waterfalls from my palms while the rest of my body is bone dry. I was in a sauna with my friends once and they where amazed that I was barely sweating while they were poring from their foreheads than I showed them my hands and they were like whoa.
I got surgery last year and it helped. They pinched two nerves under my pits that controls my sweat glands to my hands and now I only sweat from my back. yeah it sucks that my shirts get soaked from time to time but hey at least I can play video games without soaking my controllers and not be self conscious about shaking peoples hands. life is good. :D

You beat me to it, both about the thread and the solution. :D
I don't really care except that it looks like it would be horrible to film this thing... lol... but here's the damn solution: buy AC unit and crank it up to eleven for an hour before shooting (its one better than 10), shut it off for the shoot and let it get slowly more warm but not lava-death-hot.
I'd personally contribute $$ if there was an AC unit purchase and installation fund.

One problem with that is garages are usually built with minimal to no insulation so when its blazin out there really is no way to cool that room down unless you had a monster AC. I think it would be worth buying the biggest window unit you could find and see if it works out. I think that if you stand far enough away from it the noise wont be an issue.
Swamp coolers are another alternative but personally I've never had one that worked. but people swear by them.

Yeah.
I'd like to apologize to everyone that had to see this week's episode. I really wish we had only released an audio version this week. It is pretty disgusting, and had I realized I LOOKED like that, I would never have continued shooting.
The issue isn't just the garage, folks, it is also the lights, which are quite hot. We are working on solutions, but I promise no more dark shirts, and much more frequent shirt changes.
I am ashamed we released this episode in its current state. I shall endeavor to not allow it to happen to such a degree again.

dude no apologies necessary. I just don't want the tapping of the show to be a negative experience for you. I love watching you guys and it shows you guys have a blast. having to sit in a hot garage doesn't sound like fun and may cause you guys to rush through it to just get it done <-- we want to avoid that. It's not disgusting at all, we're men we sweat, we sweat with pride. frankly if your pits are dry your just not
so with that said this thread is all about offering up suggestions to keep you guys comfortable.

But seriously, TRSguys... Don't feel obligated to always film in the confines of the garage if it's not working. Break it up a bit. Shoot outside when that's more comfortable. Mix it up a bit. The Green Screen thing and flawless audio all the time is not mandatory. Your thoughts, your humor, your personalities are what's important. Just relax at a friggen table outside if ya want, or be creative, and do it in a pool on floating lounge chairs if ya want. And if I wanta see you in speedos...
