Holy crap! I hope this is true, but at the same time, it sounds a lot like the plot of the new Ghostbusters game. Either way, I'm totally stoked at the possibility of a new film.

Quote: (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2009/05/dan-aykroyd-says-ghostbusters-3-may-start-filming-in-winter.html)
I just visited with Dan Aykroyd over at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip for an interview for an upcoming feature in the Los Angeles Times (you'll be able to find it here on the Hero Complex as well). We talked about a wide range of topics, but I didn't want to wait on this update about the third "Ghostbusters" film, which is moving forward after so many years.

Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Murray's presence was the pivot point in making a third film happen. He holds a one-fifth controlling interest in the property rights and has been seen as the most reluctant to return to the paranormal comedy. Aykroyd said that is true but that it's more nuanced than the public portrayal of the situation.

"I don't put not making the third movie on Billy. We can't do that. I've been very busy. Harold's been busy, Ivan's been busy. And a third script really didn't coalesce properly. And Billy, you can't blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God's sake. Although I'm the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I've never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he's an artist. You can't force somebody into it. I'm sorry he never read my third draft because I thought it was pretty good but, look, now we're at a point that there's a story that he can accept and that's going to work, and I think we're going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter."

The script is by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the writing team behind the upcoming Jack Black/Michael Cera movie "Year One" (directed by Ramis), and Aykroyd is enthused about its premise of a new generation of Ghostbusters taking over the duties of the aging team. Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" films with Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This." "He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see him do it."

Aykroyd says he believes the movie will move forward but that he has also learned that "at any second everything could blow up." The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

Who does Aykroyd think would be good in the jumpsuits? Aykroyd mentioned two names, Alyssa Milano (who is a voice in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" video game) and Eliza Dushku. "I think they're amazing," he said. "And I'm excited about the whole idea of getting this done."

It was going so well.... then the last paragraph... let me offically start the fan backlash. :p

Well, no Aykroyd, they actually aren't amazing. I hope they're not planning on combining ghostbusters and Charmed. Billy might have been the smart one all along.

i actually heard this too lol.

i agree with joeyrock, Eliza Dushku is WAY over rated, not hot at all. one of the few things i disagree with the TRS lads.

and a new ghostbusters might be cool, i liked it when i was little but not to the crazy fanboy level. i think thats the problem though it's kinda rad but like not super stellar

I think Dushku is hot, but I agree she is over rated and not a very good actress.

But Women in the jumpsuits. I think Aykroyd is off his rocker.

:D

Looking at that.. if they change the "jump" to a "cat" suit then they could get their monies worth out of Dushku and Milano.

I've only seem her in Dollhouse and she's not that bad, at what she does, people blame her for all the characters she pays in that show being similar I just think it is the way it written.
Not sure about a new Ghostbuster with new cast, I would be excited but with all the new Hollywod sequels that have come out (and I have not liked any of them) I'm sure it will be bad, if they can get the orginal director back, even then I just don't think they'll be able to re-capture the charm of the orginal (and the under-rated but not terible sequel) and if when he said "at any second everything could blow up." he was talking about the story I'm 90% sure it will be bad.
I hope it's not we have both the Gohstbusters films on DVD but I think it will be either a total flop (qaulity wise, like the new Indy film was) or will be amazing and restore my faith in Hollywood.

She's uber-hot, but I'm not fond of her as an actress, even though I've enjoyed many of the things she's done (Buffy, True Lies, Dollhouse, even Jay and Silent Bob).

I'm excited about a new Ghostbusters, but the second one was kind of crap. Hopefully it will turn out better than that.

I don't dislike Dushku, I'm sure she's a nice enough person. And while she isn't a Bar Rafaeli.. you wouldn't exactly kick her out of bed for eating crackers. So that isn't really the problem.
The problem with her in a ghostbusters film is that she lacks any sense of comic timing or wit. Out of all the main actors on Buffy, she stood out as not at all funny. Plus she looks like she's "trying" to act. Her best work was in True Lies because back then she was far more natural. The woman needs a better coach, some one who will completely break her.

That is another thing I don't like about it, not meaning to offend the original cast but they weren't sexy, they weren't the big shots with all the looks and the money and that's what lead to the charm of the film.
I told my dad about this (big Ghostbusters fan) he says he only thinks it will be good if they use the old style special effects, I'm leaning to agree with him on that.
I hope they don't use CG, I have done CG and I love it and I love computers but it's over used in movies nowadays and models will always look better, they may not be as easy and they may not do as much but I find they always look better.
CG looks good at first and the first time you see it you are overwealmed by the eye candy but after a while you see paste it and realize how unrealistic it looks.
Take the re-masters Starwars for example, when they first came out everyone thought the CG looked much better than the models now I think the CG looks like something out of a video game and the physical models still look okay.
So my two cents is that they shouold use physical models and then just put a bit of CG on top of it to blend it better with the background.

Good luck getting them to use the old effects. I was listening to the commentary, and even the makers of Ghostbusters didn't like the special effects they used.

That's a shame, and I will watch in anyways but I liked the old effects.
I shall listen to the commentary then, I think a young, sexy ghost fighting movie with cutting edge special effects wouldn't feel like Ghostbusters to me, but I will end up watching it anyways and I hope it's good.
Evolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_%28film%29) was the third Gohstbusters film in my book. The spiritual successor and that had a CG and young actors so I could be wrong. I just think a direct sequel to Ghostbusters could end up being really, really bad. So I shall assume it's bad and hope to be pleasantly surprised when the trailer comes out.

I would Love to see what they can do with new CGI, as long as they dont make the whole film CG like the TMNT movie we had a few years back.

as for the sexy, i was just talking about the ladies being in Skin tight clothes....Otherwise i would love to see the guys come back with their old suts all dusty and worn out, grabbin em from their closet and stuff.

A full CGI movie was one of the idea but I don't think they will do that. To me CG just doesn't feel Ghostbusters, but it could still be good it could come down the director.

Since when was that part of Ghostbusters? I'm a man I would love to see that too but Ghostbusters was't about glossy heroes with the best looks and the latest technology it was about the underdogs. I just hope it re-captchers the spirt of the film and isn't just another popcorn flick with the name Ghostbuster slapped on.

Going back to the commentary track for GB, they were talking about how the origninal script idea by Dan Aykroyd was that it was set in the future and being a Ghostbuster was kinda like being a garbage man and there were stations all over the city and the movie was about one specific department.

I wonder if that's what it's gonna be like in the third movie.

I hope not, I know another idea was to have them traveling though time fighting ghosts at different times but they didn't have the budget for that.
I liked that films how they were I hope they don't change it too much, I wouldn't want it to be a re-make but hopefully the style of the film remains the same and doesn't change like the new Indiana Jones and Star Wars films.

Ok basically i this Dusku is hot. that was my point.

Anyways. I dont want to see them time travel and i dont want them in space or in hell.

No matter what people are gunna bitch about this but i really hope it wont have as much bitching attached to it like Indy or Star wars and maybe have a little less bitching like Star Trek.

So you hope it'll be a good film not a crap film? Yeah we all hope that :p. The bitching doesn't happen by chance.
