So hulu is hosting a new Full Metal Alchemist series on a two week delay from Japan so it's not dubbed yet, but I'm surprised that they could start a new series given the events of the original series and the movie.

So things I've heard. The series going on now is closer to the manga. However, I saw the voice actor for Ed recently. He said there was a FMA 2 in the works. Not sure if this is the closer to the manga version or an actual sequel. BTW if you ever get to see Vic Mignogna (Ed Elrich) at a convention ask him about Full Metal Fantasy.

If he's at Comic Con, I might just get that chance.

He usually does anime cons. I just saw him at Anime Central in Chicago.
I'd love to go to San Diego Comic Con but probably won't happen. Guess Chicago's Wizard World will do.

this is mos def the closer to manga one. I read the description and saw some clips and it's the same stuff. I love me some FMA. It's story is one of the few that have really drawn me in.

I've been watching this, and its completely new series animation and sound-wise, but it's basically rehashing the first series up until the point where that series broke off from the manga, and then, this series will continue to follow the manga.
There is a downside though, they're basically going really fast over the events that were already covered in the first series. Which kinda makes this series not very much the "definative" version for this first stretch. The original series is better paces in these parts.
I understand them not wanting to spend almost an entire season redoing stuff they've already show, but it means when it's all said and done, for the best FMA anime experience, you'd have to start with the original series, then switch over to the middle of this one.
