So I took a photography class at school, and for my final project my professor basically told we could do what ever the fuck we wanted as along we had at least ten photos. So I used this as opportunity to experiment with something I've always wanted to do and that is making a comic using photography. What resulted was a one shot, I entitled "The Hunt", which you can read below.

I didn't have a lot of time to work on this, so the dialogue and the lettering were a little rushed in order to get the pages printed in time for my photo critique, but Overall I was pretty pleased in what I was able to produce in the time I had.

After finishing the project, I was really inspired to though to start working another story done in a similar style. So I started thinking about photo comics in general. So does anyone have thoughts on the medium or any recommendations for some published photo comics worth checking out?

I actually did one once, and it was really hard. It's not my favorite, but it was a good look at what it takes to layout a comic, and learn how they work. I'd rather have drawings, but it does really make you have to look within the limitations of what one can do in real life, and even things like camera angles. It's not like you can have an extreme shot from 50 feet in the air.

Looking through your story, I think the big critique I'd make is that you should look to vary your angles a lot more in future work. Most of the shots were the same medium shot from one side. Throw in more closeups, move the camera around. You don't need to see animated frames of someone throwing a punch, but perhaps a windup, and then a closeup of the impact, etc.

The best thing I did when doing mine was to script it, then do rough layouts. Then we went and shot a bajillion photos, and edited them together. Lemme find it somewhere and I'll post it on here later.

But good work. Way to get out and do something. Good settings too.

Thanks for the feedback. I totally feel what your saying. Ideally I wanted to be able to write out a full script with dialogue then shoot photos, but due to the time constraints I basically just kind of had a rough plot breakdown of each scene and then just took a bunch of shots then pieced them together when laying out the pages, then wrote the dialogue and narration over the scenes. I also only had two days when I could shot cause of the weather at the time so it was really rushed.

For this next one since it's a personal project and not a school project, I'm defiantly gonna take the time to write out a full detailed script, revise the hell out of it, and do layouts. I'm also gonna look the vary the angles like you said. When I was shooting I was mainly concerned with getting crisp, well shot photos since the project was a for a photo class. I think though if I can lay everything before hand like I wanted to, I can think more about the cinematography aspect of it all.
