I just taken apart a Pioneer DVR-111 cd/dvd player. I found the main laser inside and took it out. The laser has 4 connections off of it that I can see. How do I power up this laser to shoot out a beam or even just light up. P.S.:the connection going to the whole laser asymbly had over 15 connections and said Cannon 30v.

You would need to build a diode laser power supply. Just hooking up voltage to it would most likely burn it out. The power supply needs to regulate the voltage to prevent burn out.

Check out:

or do a Google search for "Diode Laser Power Supply Schematics"

Hope that helps.

I just took apart my laser assembly and it looks like it just has 2 connections to the main curcuit board but has somehting else connected close to where the wires connect to the laser. Does this mean I don't have to make a laser diode or whatever you called it?

Yes, that's exactly what it means. Just run that bad dude through the highest wattage power supply you can find and etch your name into the moon.

Seriously, just read the guide; it's quite extensive and thorough. However, if you are having trouble deciphering it (as I am), working with lasers of any scale is likely not the best use of your time.

See, now fooling around like this is how black holes get formed.
