I just sold my 3g, it's been exactly 2 hours and already my life is a wreck. I used it to control my living room pc, now I have to dig out my key board and mouse and hook it up. I used it to keep an eye on my emails, now I have to log into gmail and yahoo every once in a while. I can't even imagine what my train rides are going to be like. The worst part is I have to rock this phone http://r.phonedog.com/shared/images/items/1166-main-medium-lg-c1300i.jpg
until my G S comes on friday :(
anyone else recently find themselves iPhoneless ?

Personally, I don't see the point in upgrading from the 3G to the 3GS. That's just me though.
I don't have an iPhone though. I have a Blackberry Storm. I think the iPhone is the better device, but the Storm is a nice compromise if you're stuck on Verizon. I'm not willing to use shitty AT&T. ;)

The leap from 3G to 3GS isn't a great enough leap to justify upgrading just for the hell of it. Going from the 1st gen to 3GS makes a lot more sense. Since the cost of the 3G without a contract will still be fairly substantial, the resell value is still pretty good. Who would pay a couple hundred bucks for an 8GB 1st gen? Someone without the credit for a post-paid plan but who still wants an iPhone. Those pre-paid phones are big for a reason, and most pre-paid users are pre-paid due to credit not being good enough.
I'm on an 8GB 3G and Cody's on a 16GB 1st gen. We also have a spare one, an 8GB 1st gen. Heh, yeah, we have a spare IPHONE. Anyway, we do plan to get around to selling these three we already and upgrading to the 3GS. My line's eligible for an upgrade already, and his will be in two more months, though we can likely get a waver, and by selling the ones we have, we shouldn't be out anything out of pocket to upgrade. If we'd be out money? We would upgrade Cody's at some point and I'd stick with my 3G.
Since we're still carless (waiting for the damned engine to ship), I had to take the bus to the store today. Not so bad, except the bus is never on time and doesn't run often on Saturdays (or at all on Sundays, or after about 6:30 any other day!!), and if you miss one bus, it's at least an hour for the next one. I had about 25 minutes to get back to the bus stop, but my damned phone was dead. Well, the battery. I'm bad at remembering to ever plug my phones in. So I didn't know if I made it back or not because I couldn't check the time. I couldn't call a cab because I couldn't make calls on a phone with a dead battery.
This phone has really had more uses for me than simply checking internet forums or general entertainment. It's been used to look up medical info I needed at that very moment, for business, etc.. It's not really even a phone. It's more like a mini computer that happens to make phone calls. We don't even ask, "Where's my phone?" because, really, it's not a phone-phone. It just happens to have that ability. My computer has the ability to make calls too. Doesn't make it a phone.

sucks about your car. Before I moved to new york I thought life without a car would be impossible. I spent a month without a car in Vegas after I crashed mine and it was awful. Now it's the complete opposite. having a car in this city is a complete hassle. Not only is traffic terrible you spend an extra hour looking for parking. On top of that you got to be careful where you park because you don't want to get towed and no one in the city respects cars. since the majority of the people don't own cars they feel they can sit on your car bang it up and everything and it's no big deal.
If your contract is almost up I'd seriously be looking into the palm pre. I keep hearing great things about sprints data service. I left sprint because I wanted an iPhone but they weren't to bad besides the fact that my phone number got stolen twice. they took care of it though. I was kinda pissed I had to change my number each time. I got 2 bills for 2000 bucks. They said I was making calls from the Dominican republic.
But yeah they say this new iphone is twice as fast and 32 gigs woohoo. but the current 3g has a 412MHz CPU so that means it would be boasting around 800mhz. <-- that's how fast my first desktop was. good ol celeron processors  although I hear it'll more likely be around 600 mhz with twice the ram and a better GPU. either way I'm excited to get it.
let me tell you that there is a heavy market for iPhones. I put mine up and withing minutes I was getting offers left and right. I could have gotten more if I had put it on ebay but ebay is such a hassle for me. Mine was kinda beat up around the corners so I only got 300 for it. I'm sure you can get 150 to 200 for your first gens easy.

Being in the city (San Francisco) would suck with a car. No parking, but great, and frequent, transit. Too bad there's not better transit here. It's extremely inconvenient. To get to my next dr's appointment for the two of us is about three hours on transit each way and $25 in fares. Guess what. The stupid bus system that runs where we need doesn't do day passes or transfers. Each time you get on a bus, you pay again. The dr's office is only 12 miles or so way. Three hours to go 12 miles. Seven buses and a couple train rides to get there and back.
We have no interest whatsoever in getting Palm Pres. We are very happy with our iPhones. Our contract is NOT almost up. When we added me to Cody's family plan last year, that came with another two-year contract. So we are in contract until next year.
Yeah, the new one will have 32GB, but realistically, how likely is it that most people will use 32GB? Cody puts a LOT of crap on his phone, and still hasn't used up 16GB. He's got a bunch of video casts on there, but takes off the ones older than a few weeks. He uses it for music, and a bunch of other stuff. I use mine for the internet and games. How many people store their entire lives on their iPhones? A tiny minority of people will have any NEED for 32GB, but watch, most people will waste their money to get the 32GB just to say they have it, all the while not even using 8GB.

lol yeah probably the reason I got a 32 was just to have it. but I've got a ton of movies on my computer that I've had on there forever but never get a chance to watch. I'll probably take them and put them on my phone and forget about them. so if ever I'm in a situation where I'm out and nothing to do I'll have that. I can fit whole seasons of shows and just keep then on there without worrying about space.
3 hours to go 12 miles is ridiculous. 25 bucks will get you from anywhere to anywhere in Manhattan. you can go from the top of the island all the way to the Brooklyn bridge and it'll be about 30 to 35 bucks. one thing I will say is that once you get use to it and you time it right the transit system here is not to bad. although with the budget cuts people are talking about cutting services and cutting the transit crew down. That will really screw all the working people here.
