So I was browsing for wav files on my Mac and I noticed these audio files from the Call of Duty 4 game I have on here. I started browsing some of the audio files and these sound fantastic. They actually sound a little bit different than they do in the game (I'm thinking because it's uncompressed). I've included some samples (there's hundreds), 2 helicopters and a glass break.

To be perfectly honest I have no idea if these are copyrighted or not (though I doubt anyone would be able to tell).

That's actually very clever. Now I don't have to go around hunting for decent firearm sounds. I only recently started playing the game and agree entirely that these are great.

For those who might want to do this, all you need to do is use an archive reader (7zip, Winrar, or the defualt OS X one) to extract the audio inside the .iwd files. On Windows they are located in Call of Duty installation/main/.

I suppose we could get away with using these files without worrying about copyright infringement (as if most of us did in the first place). Short of confiscating your storage medium and analyzing the files, there's virtually no way for Activision to prove those files are theirs. The likelyhood of them even noticing our student productions enough to complain about it is pretty low, too.

The mac files are located in Applications>Call of Duty 4>Call of Duty 4 Data>Main>Sound.

I used to use Video game music and sound effects for all my films, just remember they are all still copy right (videos with them in could be taken off youtube) I doubt you could get away with saying "it's under 10 second so fair use applies" at the sound effect itself is under 10 seconds.
That said they are GREAT for personally projects and use game sound effects all the time.

I too find using videogame sound effects to be great as I can control how many shots are fired and at what rate. The only thing I have seen with doing that is anyone that recognizes the sound from the game specifically will be somewhat taken out of whatever it is that they are watching.
