I wanted to get an idea of some good video editing/effects software for the person on a budget, $700 to $1200 is a bit much for me, i was looking to spend around $300, i have a Panasonic 3CCD tape video camera, its not the HD or anything but it will get me started for doing short films with special effects like PIP, green screen and maybe some scifi effects and podcasts. IDEAS?

You should look into picking up final cut express. It is an amazing piece of software.

I think AVID has a student discount and I think it's under $300. It's the best you're going to get in that price range I think.

I have 'Adobe Premier Elements 2.0' I am thinking of changing to 'Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro Pack' for effect I would recommend the FXhome packages but I have only have used the 30 day trail.

For editing either Final Cut Express, Adobe Elements or Sony Vegas would work fine. For effects check out this site - http://fxhome.com/

I think someone already mentioned it above, but I thought I'd throw in the link.

good luck.
