I played this great PC game in the early 90's, (possible late 80's). I don't remember much about the game except for bits and pieces, but I know I loved the game. There was something about a spaceship with yourself and others on it that crashed onto a planet inhabited by aliens that were tall and had these weird backwards facing legs. There was this big walled city that you could explore and surrounding the city was these portals that you had to activate then go thru to other places. Once you activated and visited all the locations you had to go to the main castle in the center of the city and attack it only to find out that the main nemesis you confront is a fellow human from your wrecked ship.

The game was either 1st or 3rd person action/adventure with shooting involved. I would love to look this game up online, but I can't seem to get the search terms just right. (as soon as I put the word "portal" in there you can imagine what happens)

Thanks in advance whoever can help me out!

I ask my fellow Raddies only because it was one of those games that really stuck out in my mind as just a completely amazing game. One where I really got sucked into the story and it was all I could think about when I wasn't playing.

Btw, it wasn't Unreal and I may not be 100% accurate on the details above. I think there was some sort of satellite or ship that crashed and pieces of it were scattered throughout different areas of the planet accessible only by the portals surrounding the city.

I'm somewhat reminded of "Outcast" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outcast_(game)), but it's much too new for you to think it's from the early 90's. It's a really good game, though, even though I never played all the way through.

GoNZooo......You my friend are my new hero!!!!! I don't know why I thought the game was so old. All the screenshots for games in the early 90's were nowhere near like what I was remembering for the game. Outcast came out in 1999 and that is the game I was trying to remember!!! This game was such a gem. Completely polished, well scripted, it was fun and I was so into the story the entire time.

Has anyone else played this game? If so what did you think of it? I remember thinking, as I played it, why isn't anyone else I know totally into this game? I just read on the wiki (ty GonNZooo) that it was another great game that reviewed well yet just didn't sell.

Wow, I'm not much of a gamer but Outcast looks way fun. Kinda like Myst/Riven (my type of games) with action and such.

This game looks awesome! Reading your initial description I sort of thought of TUROK: DINOSAUR HUNTER for the N64. That screen shot doesn't look too far off, even, with the large outside open area and, well, the portal that looks very much like the portals in Turok :P

Can it be my turn now?

When I was a kid I played this one game a TON and I have since forgotten it's name despite my best efforts. As a child I had both a mac and pc, and I'm unsure which one we had whenever I was playing this game (mid 90s or before, some time).

The screen was divided into three sections, i think. The lower half was one rectangle reserved for descriptions and stuff (Again, I THINK haha) and the upper half was split into two boxes. Upper left being the view ahead of you, upper right being stats/menu/things like that. It was a first person game where you were in a space ship... I cant remember any of the enemies really - though for some reason I think the walls may have been purple most of the time? - but you had psychic abilities that you could use to defeat the monsters. It was an old game where your character moved in squares and when you ran into an enemy the menu came up.

Keep in mind I may or may not be accurately remembering this >< I'm doing the best I can!

Hmm, how do you mean split into sections...you mean like this?

What genre of game was this? Was it more like a space "Shooter" than a first person shooter? Were the images in 3D ect...

I recently played a game that it totally one of these kinds of games. Weird, new, unique and very much under the radar. The kind of game you remember years later, but forget the details. It was called Zeno Clash.

It is a first person brawler/shooter set in an alternate reality. The characters are very bizarre and the plot just as weird. The game play of punching was so visceral and FUN it felt so real. Has anyone else enjoyed this game (or hated)?

Wasn't there a review about that on CO-OP recently? Or am I thinking about something else. There's a character called Mother something, or something like that in it?
=S
Seems awesome though.

Yup, actually "Father/Mother". You are correct about it being on Co-op. that's actually where I heard it from.

It was a great game.
