I feel very weird about this. I don't mind him as an actor. Just not sure about him playing Deadpool AND Hal Jordan. Interesting, how this will make him the first actor to have played characters from both Marvel and DC. I'm just glad they didn't cast Timberlake.

Thoughts?

Article from Reuters:
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - After an intense months-long search, Warner Bros. has chosen Ryan Reynolds to play the title character in "Green Lantern," the studio's live-action movie based on the DC Comics hero.

Reynolds and his representatives entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests for the actor, Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test.

The film is being directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

One reason for the lengthy search process was that De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

If the deal is completed, it would make Reynolds the only actor to have played heroes for both Marvel and DC. He recently starred in a comic-book movie, 20th Century Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," in which he played Deadpool, also known as the Merc with a Mouth. The character is being developed for a spin-off in which Reynolds will star. He also played Marvel's vampire hunter Hannibal King in "Blade: Trinity."

"Lantern" is Reynolds second stab at a DC Comics hero. A few years ago, he was attached to play the comic company's speedster "The Flash."

I am for anything with Ryan Reynolds in it. That guy oozes charisma out of every pore.

I've seen that trailer before, and it's awesome. Whoever made it should teach an editing/fx class.

I agree about Nathan Fillion though. That guy deserves to be cast in a big comic franchise.

I am really surprised, but not horrified. I would've been ok with Bradley Cooper as well. I just hope they don't "Dark Knight" it all, because Hal Jordan is not that guy....at least not until the Parallax stuff...

Holy crap, I'd never seen that trailer before...it was epic! Fillion could definitely pull that character off as well..

Never liked the Green Lantern but I can't argue with Ryan Reynolds. He could play any role (male or female) in any movie, too cool.

Wasn't Reynolds lined up to play Wally West a few years ago? I always saw him more as the Flash than as Hal.

Personally I was rooting for Michael Trucco (Anders from BSG), but I like Reynolds, hopefully they don't go for a comedy tone.

i honestly like ryan alot, think he is a good actor and dont mind seeing him as Hal.

I wonder if he really will play deadpool still(for a full movie and not the crap from earlier this year)

I'd have to assume in his Green Lantern contract it would state he can't play another comic based hero for at least "X" amount of years after the movie is released. So my guess is that he can't contractually.

It is a bit weird when one actor plays more than one iconic character around the same time. I'm thinking Christian Bale both playing Bruce Wayne and John Connor.

Maybe also Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Sherlock Holmes.

It is odd that he'd be cast in the film when Deadpool is supposedly coming out the same year. Not much of a Green Lantern fan, but I think I'd rather see him than Justin Timberlake.

being that he is Green Lantern now, you think they got him signed for the future Justice League movie?

I'll admit I don't know much about Green Lantern, but I never thought he was a very....humorous character. But then, I only know the Justice League cartoon version, and that's not even Hal Jordon. But if GL isn't...you know...funny, I don't see why you would get Reynolds to play him.

Maybe also Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Sherlock Holmes.Or Ian McKellan as Gandalf and Magneto.

I'm not a huge Hal Jordan fan, but I am a pretty big Ryan Reynolds fan. I really wish he would've gotten the flash job a couple years back, he'd of been awesome at that! But anyways, I'm sure I'll see this movie and I wish them the best.

Sidetrack: I'm still holding out hope for Neil Patrick Harris as The Flash in liveaction movie.

I really doubt it, seeing how when the JL movie was in development (or is it, still?), they weren't going to use Bale and Routh.

I still kinda feel as though Bradley Cooper would have been a better choice, although I'm not completely sure why. I think, in the grand scheme of things, choosing Ryan Renolds is a safe, and ultimately a "better" choice... But I'm still not totally sold on it. I think he does a great job in the average-guy roles, and certainly, he has a bit of a mouth on him, but ultimately, having him play Hal Jordan just feels weird. In that sense, something like Deadpool was perfect for Renolds. In that same sense, I almost feel like The Flash or The Green Arrow would have made more sense for him to play... Hal Jordan is just a shade too uptight, a bit too stuffy for Renold's typical character style.

I hear ya . . . funny he didn't hold out for Flash.
