I searched the forum but I didn't find a walking dead thread so I started one.
I'm on issue 49 and I got to say this comic is not for the faint of heart. What happened in issue 48 just killed me inside. I don't even want to keep on reading cause I don't think I can take much more.

the series so far is at a 10 out of 10 so I can understand if it dips down to a 9 or 8 for a while cause there is only so much you can do with a zombie story like this. But did they really have to die like that ?:( the governor is officially number one on my villains I really really hate list.

I only read this in trades, I think it reads better that way.
I can only assume the event you are referring to is the same event at the end of trade 8.
Which is the reason I've had trade 9 for months but can't bring myself to read it.
I'm a manly man and I do not want to weep my soul out anymore.

I'm also reading it in trades, and man, I gotta agree with the above poster, the places the story goes at times is like being punched in the stomach, in a good way...I guess.

That story arc is as dark as anything I've read and I almost quit reading myself, but I just had to know.

I was reading the trades of this series, but they took so long to come out I eventually forgot to get them anymore. Anyways, all those books are back at my parent's place, got left behind when I moved out. I want to pick it up again, but I don't know what issue I'm on anymore :P
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
Does anyone know what issue is the one when they get kidnapped by the leader of a town which has been feeding zombies for sports events? He keeps fish tanks of heads. It's after they've been living in the prison for a while.

I read the first 48 in hardcover, and got so hooked I started reading in issues after that. At first I didn't like it as much thinking I needed huge doses of it at once, but a couple months later and I was enjoying it in issues just as much as in trades. It just requires a better memory, or in my case rereading. But then again, I have to reread or skim over the previous month's issue before reading the current months.
In my perfect world, this would be the best television show ever.

If they had the budget....Yeah this show would be Amazing. HBO or someone would have to pick it up so it would be unrated or something

So here's the thing with Walking Dead. Y'know, when you're watching a zombie movie, or for that matter, any tense, perilous scene in any given movie, and you always imagine the worst possible outcome for the characters, but then think "nah, there's no way the writers would do that" or "please oh please don't let 'X' happen". Well, in The Walking Dead, "X" does happen, and the writers WOULD do that...and they do...a LOT.
The Walking Dead is a series seemingly based solely on the modus operandi of: "y'know all those unthinkable situations you fear and dread, but know that no one with a scrap of decency or humanity would ever dare commit themselves to? Well, we are going to scare you all shitless and fill you with an ever-present, insurmountable feeling of sheer dread and terror by making you believe that those situations can and will happen, exactly when you expect them to."
This, interestingly, is what makes the series so amazing and groundbreaking. It's like George A. Romero spent a month straight listening to This Mortal Coil.

I'm caught up to current. I love pretty much everything so far, but I kind of scared that the story will escalate too much. One of hte things I love about the story is that it's mainly focused on this small group. Even though I'm worried, I love the current story arc.

In my perfect world, this would be the best television show ever.
Someone shared the first 30 or so issues with me a couple years ago, and although I had never been one to think about zombies much, I found I adored this book. I started buying issues religiously. I had to pretty much stop buying all my titles a year ago, so I am behind on the current stuff but the last issue I read had yet again changed everything. With out spoiling anything: 'that double shot?!?". You know what I'm talking about if you read it. Then back on the run. The Walking Dead constantly challenges the reader and I love it. It takes what can be a one dimentional setup, and makes instead a profound tale of the reality of what happens when civilization as we all know it breaks down. Do we still act civil or do we revert to the apes? With adding zombies into the mix, you get to explore the question of who are the real monsters? Is it the mindless zombies, or is it us?
Back to the above quote. Although I loved the original art in the book in the first few issues, after I got used to the change I loved it. After the change I would always come back to the idea that this would make a perfect HBO series. There is no doubt in my mind. If they would have been smart enough to get it going at the same time as True Blood, that would have been quite a Sunday night line up!

and that's is why I play call of duty and left 4 dead as much as I can to prepare for the coming apocalypse. Bring em on I'm ready.

That's what I said. I was all WTF WTF WTF.

I'm on the issue where the guy just told everyone that he is a scientist and he knows whats going on. I'm not sure how I feel about that just yet. Knowing the origin of the zombies could take the series down a road that I don't want to go but if he is bull shitting then it could make for some interesting reading. With this writer and what he did with lori I feel like I can't predict where he is going with the story.

The feeling of there truly being nothing that CAN'T happen in this "Walking Dead" world is what makes it brilliant....anyone can die/be hurt..
The feeling of dread when I pick the book up mixed with the need to know what is going to happen next is like nothing I've ever experienced before.
After the last few issues I've been getting that feeling of impending doom again...that Kirkman guy is cooking up some crazy stuff..

I really like all the different characters that he's introducing into the series. He really seems to listen to fan feedback too. There definitely seem to be new characters with distinct voices, and I also read a letter in the letters column that felt there weren't enough black characters, or at least that there were too many white ones. And sure enough, a very good mix of people start showing up. I like the diversity in the cast he has now.

yeah I just got through issue 61 and I get the feeling that something really bad is going to happen. I'm glad I pushed passed the infamous issue 48 which shattered everything I thought I knew to be true about story telling and who is aloud to die at what points in the story.
this guy wrote marvel zombies too huh? anyone read that? I loved that comic. I have to seek it out again I think I heard they came out with a sort of origin story for the virus.
spoiler
I thought it was sick (as in cool not nauseating) the way rick **** that guys throat out ****** when they where about to **** his son (which after what happened to Lori I literally screamed out noooooo you cant do that out loud while I was reading it) And I totally didn't see that coming when **** shot that kid.

I really liked the start of the Marvel Zombies, but I didn't really dig on the second series. Possibly due to my lack of knowledge of the "galactic" type characters that Marvel has... and they have a lot!
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
In regards to your spoiler, which I didn't feel the need to post the whole bit, people have enough things to dodge without accidentally glancing over a word or two which might be enough. I thought it really showed something in Rick. It actually really compares him to one of the zombies that they fight against so much even though he's still human. Where's that line? I know they always say that the humans are more dangerous than the zombies, but at what point are you no longer human? Constantly in the book they refer to the zombies simply as "Biters" because it's so inhuman that they will bite into another person... and yet Rick is driven to do just that. I love this series!
