does anyone know any really good rap forums? I haven't been able to find a forum where I can discover new music frequently. I am looking for a place that gets the buzz a bit ahead of the curve like a place that was talking about kid cudi way before anyone else was.

You don't need a forum, you need:
NahRight (http://nahright.com)
SS (http://smokingsection.uproxx.com)
RR (http://rapradar.com)

Also, check out the latest MessOfMusic Video Podcast, (made by our very own forum member DanHauk) This latest ep started a new segment called "genre school" with the first "class" being hip hop history and new stuff.
I am not a rap fan much at all (I like some) but this ep really educated me. And found some sweet new music too. Check it out at messofmusic.com (http://www.messofmusic.com)

yeah I keep falling in and out of love with rap. what's funny about rap is that it changes according to who ever has the most popular song. so if you don't like rap now wait until the next kanye west type of guy comes along. every rap song you here will follow the same formula (with the individual artist twist) until someone else decides to do something different and succeeds then every artist will hop on that band wagon. <---oh my god I just had a revelation
maybe that is why they call it hip-hop because everyone hops on what ever is hip at the time. kanye samples old rock ballads and speeds them up, every one "hops" on and does the same because it's "hip." jump forward about a decade and t-pain does the autotune thing and it becomes hip so every one hops on that. god it makes total sense. I think Jay z has started the next trend, death of the auto tune. just like nas started the whole hip hop is dead thing, I think this death to autotune is going to take off (if it hasn't already). although personally I like autotuned songs. and I heard that someone auto tuned his "death to auto tune" song and it sounds way better then the original.
anyway I'll mos def hop on that pod cast cause it sounds hip.

LOL
Loved the "they call it hip-hop because everyone hops on what ever is hip at the time."
Still, that trend aint just hip hop, it's called "popular music" in general.

I like Rap, but it's getting worse and worse as time progresses. There's a decent peak here and there, but overall I think it's going down hill. Too much of this "Soulja Boy" kiddie bop crap.
"Soulja boy tell em". No thanks, I'll stick to my Wu Tang CD.

Don't forget Brit Hop. Fun punk/rap fusion coming from that direction.

Asian culture and rap groups huh? Hmmm, I was just going to mention that I am subbed to these guys on youtube:
"The Peanut Gang" in Osaka Japan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9Vtk-eAQRc
I can't say that I know anything about rap or hip-hop (past or present). I know next to nothing, but I do like these guys and their dancing. They really take their dancing seriously, and it is obvious that they practice beforehand. Also, they are amateurs doing this for fun (you can tell because in the earlier videos they are dancing in a dark parking lot somewhere).
I also find it humorous that in one of their videos they pick the camera up and run after someone (maybe an officer) interrupts them.

yeah they're good but sorry to tell you that snap music is old school now. it's all about jerking now (ok reading that back I laughed so hard but I kid you not jerking is a real thing and its the latest craze)

its not about the music. as long as you own a pair of vintage nikes and some skinny jeans, your cool.
but seriously check out that podcast rabid suggested if you want to be the cool guy who hangs out with all the clicks and listens to everything. I was shocked at how much dem boys knew and their taste in music, even though i didn't learn anything new. I've been following the Anticon crew since they were still together, apathy is my dude on the mic. hieroglyphics and all the others mentioned have been sitting snugly in my itunes for years now and they fail to mention the fact that del is ice cubes cousin (you know ice cube, NWA, west side connections, the beginning of gangsta rap).

Those Peanut guys will probably do that one next. They put it on their favorites a month ago.
Also, I'm sure that "We're jerking to the left and jerking to the right" must somehow be influenced by Clarence Carter and his "I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west", Strokin song. I had no idea what that song was about when I was a kid.
The last rap/hip hop song I remember listening to (before I saw the Peanut Gang) was this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-a58RnOc0A
The reason is because after they deep-sixed Napster, I pretty much stopped listening to music. I didn't buy CD's or download music off the internet either. So my entire music collection is older than 1998-99. Well, I did break down and buy two Bob Marley CD's for 10 bucks 3 years ago but that was it.
The only place I hear music now-a-days is either the radio or youtube. And I must admit, I don't actively seek it out. I listen to it passively.
But anyways, if you do have more videos of people showing dance moves on youtube, I'm interested.
