Revisiting Monkey Island on XBLA got me thinking of other classic games or franchises that should be remade.
Top of my list would be Star Control II.
What classic games would you like to see enter HD and get the full treatment Monkey Island got?

Pretty much the rest of the line-up of the old LucasArts adventure games.

The old Thief games, simply due to the fact that they pretty much don't even work on modern operating systems and hardware. These are games that you can't play, even if you're not a graphics whore.

like nearly every other mod out there that's publized, I honestly doubt it'll see the light of day. What I would of liked would of been Valve to take this on themselves.

Wing Commander Series.
That is the flight sim i grew up on. I was so exited to here a Wing Commander game was coming to XBLA but then it ended up being Wing Commander Arena, what a disappointment.
Favorite: Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger (1994). Remember those live action cut scenes. The 5 or more CD's.
They should do a re-boot where Mark Hamel returns as Chris Blair and is the trainer or something.

yeah, I'd love to see the wing commander series remade.

Great Thread. Okay, here we go:
Day of The Tentacle - An Updated, HD, well animated, fully voiced remake on XBL/PSN. Yes please.
Space Quest Series- Ditto.
Kings Quest 5 - Ditto.
Syndicate - Seriously. A HD, 3D, multiplayer remake for 360 / PS3 would be awesome. Maybe an alternate version for the Wii (controller would work).
Hounded (c64) - A dog racing industry game where you bought, trained and bet on dogs (professional). I remember naming the dogs and eventually the game would be full of dogs that you or your family had named / trained. Great multiplayer game. A remake of this for XBL / PSN would rock!
Street Rod - Somebody needs to do this. Now. I loved getting out the paper and looking for cars to buy and then looking for parts and replacement engines to mod it with. You'd then drag race for money or pink slips. Again, XBL / PSN please.

Grim Fandango. I miss Manny and his biting wit!

Absolutely agree with Kings Quest and Space Quest. Day of the Tentacle HD and with voices could be unreal. Would also love to see the first Quest for Glory redone with voices as well.
Don't know if it's been long enough for a Grim Fandango remake, but a re-release on XBLA would be amazing. Or hell, a sequel.
Any love for Mixed Up Mother Goose?

Day of the Tentacle should be the next remake because the CD version already had great voice acting. All they would have to do is update the graphics. I think it has the best story in a video game of all time. Although I think Grim Fandango is also great, Full Throttle was great, but too short, and Sam and Max Hit the Road was the funniest of them all, but the story wasn't as strong as DotT.

If they do Day of the Tentacle, I think it's important to keep it strictly 2D, and not like the Monkey Island remake. It should down in the style of Monkey Island 3, but hi-res. The likelihood of this happening is slim, since cel animation is expensive, but I think DotT should look like a cartoon show.

You know, I don't think I need a remake, I think that game is pretty much perfect the way it is. It doesn't need a graphics update or anything. What I *would* like is a sequel though. :D

First and foremost, Planescape: Torment
Also Thief 1 and 2.
And also TIE Fighter.

The NEW Monkey Island episodic game is 3D, but the remake of Secret is just a high res version of the original game.

I'm calling for a Hugo's house of Horrors remake.

Not sure if many will remember this but I loved Privateer 2: The Darkening. The character you played was Clive Owen in the cut scenes. Christopher Walken and John Hurt where in there also. The game play was very open. I spents months of time in high school playinn that one. I also would like to see Quest for Glory.

Yes!
I also miss games like Privateer. I know there are games like X3 (very buggy) that aim for similar experiences but a new Privateer would be awesome.
I miss a lot of the old Origin & Bullfrog games.

They should remake all the "Quest for Glory" games, unless they're using the same artist for the remake of Monkey Island. I don't like that new art style at all.

I agree on the art style. I would have loved to see a HD version in the style of "Curse of Monkey Island"

I have to say, I wasn't expecting anyone else to remember Hugo's house of Horrors.
I used to play that and Curse of the Catacombs (I believe thats the name), which is pretty much a clone of Wolfenstein 3D.

I'd love to see an Ultima game which harkens back to its pre-UO heyday (4-7), although I'd settle for an Ultima IV remake.
And, while it's only a last-gen franchise, I'd love to see a full-on, HD incarnation of the SSX Franchise.

Dude. It was all about these games when I first got my PC. This was back in the day when you bought a PC and it came loaded up with a bunch of shareware and something like PSMenu (to which the Wii owes a debt).
I haven't mentioned it in this thread but it's an obvious one and one one which I heard ID were going to be doing ages ago; the Commander Keen series.

Commander Keen was another one I had along with Hugo's house of Horrors. I remember playing it a ton. I would love a remake of it.
