In the newest douchery by some asshat, someone hacked into the hak5 server and wiped ALL of the 84 different sites from their server... This is some real bullshit, and I would love to get my hands a hold of that person's IP address...
Here is the latest tweet from @hak5matt "Hak5 was indeed hacked along with all 84 of the other sites on the server being wiped, backups are a month old, rebuilding the server now"
btw, if no-one knows, this is h3%5kr3w from the hak5 forums (well on the hak5.org/forums.. forums)

Just wish they had a honey pot setup so they could go after this guy.. They could get some $ out of it... Wait... What if they did have a honey pot? Actually think about it. They most probably did. I mean even though it sounds like a bum move, they could get some good press out of it if they went after this guy (legally) and got some cash out of it :D

More likely they don't have any say in the security used on the web server. I know for quite a while they used Dreamhost. I don't know if they still do.
It's a bit dumb. Everyone knows that no computer connected to a network connection is 100% secure and hak5 isn't really so much about "look at how good we are at hacking computers" as "look at all the fun stuff we can do". Granted they used to do a lot more fun stuff and not the same things every single week.

I have a Dreamhost account (which I got with a HAK5 discount years ago) and it is pretty crap, even compared to other Dreamhost accounts.
Basically, they were testing some newfangled way of doing mass hosting on the "Blingy" cluster and it failed big time, which led to lots of downtime, usually up to a day at a time. It was so bad that they even had problems trying to move people off to other clusters. I eventually got moved but it took 6 months of complaints. Luckily for me, this was only one of several file hosting mirrors I use for software to fetch updates from.

I think they must get some special deal with them or something. I used to get 20mbps (my full connection) download speeds direct from their site in the first few seasons. On my own dreamhost account I get about 50kB/s.
