Just thought I would pose the question to see what everyone thinks. What is the best that involves hacking?

There have been a lot of horrible ones (Swordfish)... cough... The only one that I can think of that I really enjoyed was Sneakers. I have seen that movie at least 6 times.

The Matrix Reloaded featured the most accurate hacking in a movie.

the worst hacker movie i've seen is firewall. the part where he takes apart a scaner and hooks it up to an ipod so he can scan the bank info on the screen. i was laughing the entire movie.

it was also #1 on the "Top 10 Worst Portrayals of Technology in Film"
you can find that below.

I remember on a first date with this guy I really liked, he decided we would go see "Firewall." I'm watching Harrison Ford say the words "IP address" and you just see this blank look on his face. It was ridiculous.

I just watched Firewall a couple of days ago, and it was horrible. I do remember seeing Ethereal (aka Wireshark) running and also Harrison Ford's character changing the ruleset on a Cisco router, which was pretty cool.

I'm just happy it's nice and fast now and no 500 errors.

Hackers does have that awesome 'hack the gibson' kind of camp, but wargames has that 80's teen movie charm and the cold war apocalypse thing going on. I don't know it's a close call.

Hackers was brutally bad for how inaccurate it was, but Angelina and everyone else were all just so pretty... And what about that soundtrack!

Tron, good call on Tron.

Yeah, I guess that main guy was a hacker. Still Hackers for me, though. I loved that movie raw for as a child. First glimpse at Angelina Jolie's boobies too :)

Don't take my post the wrong way. As ridiculous as it was it was a really really fun movie.I probably wouldn't of seen S.L.C. Punk which is one of my all time favourite movies if it weren't for Hackers.

Just for the pure fun of it, I'd say Hackers was my favorite as well. But, did anyone else see the movie Takedown, about Kevin Mitnick? It was never released in theaters, and I think it was only released on tape/dvd in Canada. But it was a feature film scheduled for release before the plug was pulled at the last second.

I've heard lots of reasons why the plug was pulled, but I don't know which is accurate (if any) so I'll just say, if you can find a torrent of it, check it out. It's not bad. Not terribly accurate, but not bad.

Definitely Sneakers.

1. Not too many stupid flashy computer dialogue boxes.
2. All star cast.
3. The setting is in San Francisco.
4. "Low-tech solutions to high tech problems."
5. No techno music in the soundtrack.

yup, Didn't think he was all that great (although certainly memorable) in Hackers, but SLC Punk was a balls to the wall solid performance. Not sure if you've seen the DVD with Lilliard and the director doing the voice over. It's really great stuff and you can hear when the director thinks that Lilliard is "mugging". I think Lilliard really grew as an actor in a huge way because of this.... too bad he didn't go on to do any serious work after, although I hear some of his newer stuff might be worth a look.

Punk SLC really struck a nerve with me in so many ways. I won't throw any spoilers out there for anyone who hasn't seen it, but it did a pretty great job of paralelling my own youth in a similar situation. I have a feeling that it does with most people who had an even remotely similar life.

HACKERS! HACKERS!

For some reason, when ever this movie is on HBO, I have to stop and watch. It's like an itch you have to scratch. I love how "hacking" is equivalent to flying through giant digital skyscrapers.

Plus, I love hacking the gibson. It's like the ultimate catch phrase. Drop that into a conversation and you're bound to get a response.
