I have got to say I completely forgot that this show existed until I saw this, it doesn't look too bad, it will be interesting to see a Stargate show without the obligatory 'evil' aliens and by the looks of that trailer a lot less camp.
I hope they can pull it off.

I'm a Star Gate fan so I'll have to check this out. Can't really tell anything from the trailer... but I'm sure it'll be good. Star Gate always has been once you get into it and know the characters.

umm, the trailer makes me think it would make a better movie or mini series than a full television series. What with the young "geek" character (I bet he's some genius, as it seems that is the only way young characters get into a sci-fi show) and the general idea that they step through a gate not knowing where it is going.

Okay... Here's the writer's room:
"Get us the prop designer, costume designer, and lighting guy from Battlestar."
"Okay... done."
"Now go find me a chubby white guy..."
"This is going to be epic."

Was a fan of SG-1 . . . was Atlantis any good? The few clips I saw it looked super super cheesy and not in the good way . . . like they tried being "Farscape cheesy cool" but missed.

I don't know how "leaked" this is, there's been a shorter version out for a couple of months.
Atlantis was ok, not horrible. Had some interesting ideas.
Having the guy from Trainspotting will give SGU some acting chops, but without some solid writers this thing will tank.

I really loved Farscape, and I enjoyed Atlantis. It definitely had it's ups and downs, but I did end up sticking with it for the whole run. SG-1 was certainly better though. But I must admit that going into Atlantis, it was refreshing to get away from that pre-established universe with the same old races and bad guys. It was fresh to have a whole new landscape with new worlds and people to meet and see how that all fleshed out. That's what I'm looking forward to with SG:U, that unknown quality.

Trailer look good !
A quick summary :
Stargate Universe follows the adventures of a present-day, multinational exploration team on board the Ancient spaceship Destiny. Transported to Destiny in a distant corner of the universe and unable to return to Earth, members of the team are forced to remain on the vessel and fend for themselves.
Although it will still have the familiar Stargate themes of adventure and exploration, the show will focus mostly on the people aboard the ship. SGU will be more serialized than its predecessors, but the writers attempt to resolve each character story within the episode.

Sure it's not SG-V (Stargate Voyager?)

If it has believable characters (unlike Atlantis), I'll give it a shot. It certainly looks to be leaning more in that direction thankfully.

I refuse to watch ANY Stargate that doesn't have James Spader in it.

SG-BSV (Stargate - Battlestar Voyager)
Could be good, but it seems like they haven't had an original idea in a long while. I love Stargate so I'll probably watch it. The kid is a math genius. I wish they would have taken another route with that.

This worries me more then anything. I like long story arcs and allowing things to carry over from one episode to the next.

well it does say it's going to be MORE serialized than the other stargates so that would imply longer arcs than the other stargates. SG1 had some pretty decent runs, so that quote sounds good to me. I guess it sounds like a bit of both worlds, long broader story arcs and short, per episode character stories at the same time. so basically like everything else these days :-)

could be, or are you forgetting that their season outline was basically:
Main Story Episode
Random Story Episode (with little to no say on main story)
Repeat Above until Season Finale
Season Finale Cliff Hanger Main Story Episode
