I watch a lot of TV and a lot of DVDs. I have never seen an episode of Battlestar Galactica.

Around when season 2 was airing, I was tempted to start watching, but I thought I'd wait til the end of season 2 and then rent season 1 and 2 and do a mass viewing.

But, then I heard that the show looked was broadcast and looked amazing in HD. At the time, I did not have Sci Fi HD (or whatever channel it aired on) so I could not watch. So, I decided I would wait until I bought a blu-ray player and they start getting released on blu-ray discs.

Last month, I purchased a blu-ray player. A few days ago, the entire series was released on Blu-ray! Nerdgasm. Keep in mind...I don't know ANYTHING about the show. Anytime there was a commercial, article, or review (several times on TRS) I would fast-forward. All I know is that it seems to take place in space and there is a super hot blonde girl in it.

Now, my question to you guys is this. Where do I start?? Season 1 Episode 1? What is this "Battlestar Galactica: The Mini-Series? Do I watch that first? There is a season 4.5?? What is battlestar galactica: Razor and battlestar galactica: caprica?

Please advise. I've got my HDTV, bluray player, and surround sound speakers warmed up and ready for what I hear is supposed to be an epic show.

P.S. And obviously, no SPOILERS in your replies. Thanks.

I thought this thread was going to about some kind of tie in between Battlestar and Virgin Galactic... like winning a seat to space via a golden ticket in the new box-set.... ah well :(

Yeah you've got to watch the mini-series first. Two reasons, it's pretty much the best of the show.. Reason 2, it's the start of the show :p Think of it like season 0 with important plot.

At what point do I watch Battlestar Galactica: Razor and Battlestar Galactica: Caprica?

Well, Caprica is a prequel so if you're watching in chronological order, you should watch that first. Razor takes place mostly in the past but is framed in the future, so it's up to you if you want to watch that after caprica or during season 3 or 4 when the flashback occurred. then the mini-series, then the rest of the show.

The Plan spans several seasons so you'll watch that last.

I don't necessarilly want to watch it in chronological order. I want to watch it whatever way would be most entertaining as an audience member.

Obviously, watching LOST (that has a lot of time travel in it) in a proper chronological timeline wouldn't be as interesting as watching it from season 1 to season 6.

Would watching Caprica or Razor prior to starting the mini-series and then season 1 ruin/spoil anything for me? Maybe I should view them by air date as the show creators intended. (maybe they wanted the viewer to absorb 3 seasons of the show before telling whatever story takes place in Razor.

I know I'm probably making things harder/more confusing than they should be, but I take my viewing experiences seriously.

Start with the miniseries.
Caprica comes first chronologically, but I am not sure it makes sense to watch it then.
You'll know when to watch Razor.

Good luck. Its quite a ride.

as a side story, a few years ago i had downloaded the entire "Six Feet Under" series from various torrents. When I was on the fifth and final season, I accidentilly watched the very LAST episode of the season before watching the rest of the season. (and there were some big things that had happened) This had totally put a damper on the remaining episodes since I knew what was ultimately going to happen to all these characters.

Since then, I've become super paranoid about watching my shows/movies completely spoiler-free.

I have never watched an episode of "The Sopranos" but plan on renting the entire series once it gets released on Blu-ray. I've made quite an effort to not know anything about the show, which is tough because a lot of my friends like to discuss the final scene of the final episode. (and I plug my ears and start shouting)

I would say "sample" the miniseries or all of season 1 online, or through a friend. If you really like the show they just released the complete series boxset on Bluray. Its a bit pricey, $220, but it has like 70 hours of bonus material i think.

For a show like this, I wouldn't download from some torrent site. One of the reasons I've waited so long is because I wanted to watch the whole series in HD. I have the series in my Netflix queue...just waiting for them to release the rental version of the series. (probably with the Special Features stripped off)

But, if its as good as people say it is, and I'm hooked by the end of season 1, I'll probably pony up and buy the blu-ray box set.

Miniseries -> Seasons 1, 2, & 3 -> Razer -> Season 4 -> Caprica

Miniseries ends where season 1 begins, Razer technically happens during Miniseries & S1,2,3 but ends where season 4 picks up. Caprica is technically a prequel, but information that the BSG's plot hinges on is easily thrown around.

I agree with darkness, as that is what I told my parents to do once we buy the blu-ray box set with our new TV in the next week or two.
