passthrough reciever

I am hearing more about pass through receivers and switch receivers or something (sorry obviously i dont know what im talking about) but was wondering if you guys could shed some light on this feature or product. read some stuff online but not to clear on the actual answer. and is pass through something that i want on a receiver or not?

Is this for HDMI or audio? For HDMI it just passes the signal with no processing done. With audio it's basically the same thing, but usually for the purpose of high quality stereo listening . . .

I really like this receiver. It does a good job and can even up converter a VCR to 1080p :)
