Hey guys,

I'm moving into a new apartment soon and I've decided I want to ditch the long boxes and actually resent my comics somehow. I don't have a large collection and it's definitely not worth much (everything is from the past few years) so I'm not concerned about keeping them in pristine condition.

I heard Sonia mention on one podcast that she keeps her single issues on her bookshelf, have any of you got any experience with this?

Basically I'm just sick of paying for comics which i spend 30 minutes on and then hide away in a box - I want to show them off!

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you have the money, I would suggest getting them custom bound. They can go on your shelf and are more likely to be picked up and read. Or you can try selling the runs and using the money you make to buy the trades.

Not really sure how they would/do look if you put single issues on a shelf. I'd just be afraid of them constantly falling over. Plus, they have no spine; so it would be a pain to rummage through them to pick out the ones you feel like reading.

Definitley think it's out of my price range though!

I'm probably going to start doing it soon. I found a small book binding shop here that said they would do it, so that means I don't have to pay for shipping :) From what I hear online, it can cost $15 and up, depending on what extras you want with it. Ain't cheap, but you can just do one run at a time, space out your orders if you want.

You can go the cheap route and go with a binder with some see-through thingies that are basically comic bags, and put a sticker on the binder's spine. Just don't hold it upside down (you can always tape the see through bag thingies).

You can also get the plastic bag people use to store papers - the one that has two things that click together - one with a hole and the other with a bump that fits it. It's a thin bag.

There's also another art bag that isn't thin and has an handle and clicks together with the pitchfork things - like a school bag has.

You can also buy a bunch of issue holders from National Geographic (if they still sell them - they did in the 90s to hold a year's worth of issues).

The binding thing does seem like a nice way to give a certain run of comics into something nice and presentable, but seems like it'd be out of some people's range.

Alternatively, if you want your comics readily available on the shelf without them just laying there in a pile, you could always get some magazine boxes. Something like this:

There's plenty of stores that sell them, and I know there are places you can get some custom made as well. They'd keep the comics organized on a shelf, while still leaving them out and open. I'm personally going this route to take care of the handful of single issues I have.

For an example of how it'd look, this dude posted a vid of his comics collection, and he has rows of similar boxes that he bought from some paper supplier.
