Though they are bulkier, they're worth it and cheaper. Samsung has some slim-fit models which are quite nice. They are the only ones able to display pure black. I'm not going to get a flat screen to hang on the wall until the color and contrast is as good as CRT which could mean a couple years or forever if Canon's fiasco with the nanoproprietary company (or something like that) over SED is resolved.

It's been a while since I looked at TVs but are there any CRTs worth looking at?

CRT's are great and they have a longer life span ... but when it comes to 30" and above - these things are freaking heavy. I help a friend move a 36" CRT - that was a killer on the back.

There's also a physical limit to how big they can get...thought it was in the 40" range. After that, the glass needs to be so thick in the corners that it would be impossible to make. When it comes to pure quality...CRT's produce the best colors and they scale really well between SD and HD sources. Still...they selection is limited these days compared to flat screens and rear projections. That's what the market wants, so CRT's are quickly disappearing.

If you're talking CRT projector...I heard they're pretty darn good...haven't seen one though in years.

27" non hdtv's are cheaper for the same size as what a 15 in. lcd cost which still cost too much for me.

i just play games half the time anyway.

If you're talking CRT projector...I heard they're pretty darn good...haven't seen one though in years. The only place I still see CRT projectors is on older aircraft that haven't been retro fitted with LCD screens. They are never adjusted correctly, making the picture pretty much unwatchable.

According to this story (http://www.popsci.com/popsci/whatsnew/e79e0e0796b84010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html), LG and Samsung are bring out new CRT models.

Here is an example of the new Samsung (http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/SlimFitHDTV/TXS3080WHXXAA.asp) offering. The picture is likely to be stunning, the connection are in line with the best you get, but it maxes out at 30" (and as a widescreen TV, thats not that big). It handles up to 1080i, and costs about $699 at Best Buy. Thats still a little cheaper than a comparably sized LCD screen, but not by much, and even though it is 30% slimmer than a traditional CRT, you will need a lot more room at the back of the unit, and a real stable surface to rest it on.

Oh yeah - if you aren't watching movies in 16:9, you are losing 1/3 of the experience. Save the extra cash for a widescreen HDTV option ... it'll be an investment that will last a helluva lot longer.

The Denon 2807 is a great receiver. It also has iPod integration available. Get a cheap front projector. You can't beat a big image for a true home theatre experience. Klipsch speakers are the best bang for the buck. A white primer widescreen square on the wall works just fine.
