Came across an interesting movie called "Dakota Skye." Here's the imdb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0907848/) plot:

The coming of age story of a seventeen year-old girl who has a super power. Dakota Skye has the ability to see through any lie that is told to her. The combination of knowing the truth behind every lie throughout her life and the fact that she is seventeen has lead to her become bitter and apathetic. When Jonah, her boyfriend’s best friend from New York, comes into town and doesn’t lie, it shakes up her world and causes her to re-examine her own life.

Sounds like it could be either a great movie or a very melodramatic one. Anyone seen it?

I have, but I hated it.

I know it's a low-budget indie film, but the acting is just atrocious. Her "super power" is really poorly portrayed through subtitles, and there's no sense of style. It feels like a Disney show - there's the same trite archetypes and conventional 'off-to-college' insecurities.

Just watched it. I can say that I enjoyed it overall, but there are a few big flaws. (SPOILERS.)

Good stuff first: The main girl is very good. I believed her character every second of the film. Her "superpower" is more like an ability a minor character would have on Heroes, but it still relates to her character in a better way than if she could fly or something. It's more like a human lie-detector thing. The storyline of the love triangle worked for me, the relationship between the her and the blonde guy seemed genuine enough.

Bad stuff: The rest of the acting isn't exactly great, with her girl friends being the worst of the bunch. They could not act whatsoever. I don't know if the director wanted realism or something, but it wasn't great. I didn't like that she kept calling it a superpower, it didn't feel right when she said, and it came off as more of a joke than serious. The ending wasn't great, but it was really the only way to end a movie like this, and it didn't feel tacked on like the ending to Adventureland did.

I thought that it was a pretty good indie movie. The main girl is fantastic, with the other characters pretty one-dimensional. I say watch it if you have time, and if you like movies that put a small spin on the teen love triangle.
