I cringe every time Dan says Yorda is blind. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are my favorite games of all time, and I am thrilled that Dan shares my opinion of their greatness but stop saying Yorda is blind!
She's extremely weak but she can definitely see. She has to maneuver narrow passages and comes across many a cliff side and never falls off. If you recall, when ICO calls to Yorda she doesn't just follow the sound (which would mean a straight path and usually a ledge/cliff/obstruction of some sort that would more often than not kill her) she runs a complicated path back to you.
The hand holding was just a way to make her move faster, and the yelling was a way to egg her on.
Yorda is simply awestruck by the outside world. She had likely been imprisoned all her life. She wanders because she is distracted. She even chases birds which would not be the behavior of a blind person who never heard them before. She also actually reaches out to ICO in one sequence involving a bridge.
Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest. It's been bothering me for a while.
