Hey, guys. I'm a New York native, but it's a big city, so I don't know all of it. I need the names and (approximate) location of your favorite NYC LCS; we're looking for the real solid stores, the ones that are into the culture of comics and who like to recommend good stories to their regulars, stores that foster the trust of their customers and keep people coming back from week to week.

Any suggestions?

AND IF YOU ARE AN OWNER/MANAGER/EMPLOYEE OF SUCH A NYC BASED LCS AS DESCRIBED ABOVE...

I've written a new play that's appearing in the NY Fringe Festival called "The Unlikely Adventure of Race McCloud, Private Eye". It's a comic-book style comedy/adventure (that's how we're billing it) and we're trying to really get the comics reader down to the show along with the regular NY Indy Theatre audience that normally attends the Fringe. (Check out the thread on "Race McCloud" here (http://www.revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29416).)

So if you work for an NY based LCS, or you own and manage one, we'd like to offer you two comp tickets to our opening performance (Sunday, Aug. 16 at 12:00 pm; the theatre is in downtown Manhattan.) The deal being, of course, if you like the show, you'll hopefully want to go ahead and recommend it to your customers.

Also, the THURSDAY AUG. 8/20 @ 9:00pm PERFORMANCE of "Race McCloud" is a "Fanboy/Fangirl Costume Party"; fans are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character from comics, movies, or television.

So if you work for a LCS, and you're interested in free opening tickets to "Race", just let me know, either here in the thread or through a PM or however you like, or you can visit our website (www.racemccloud.com) and contact us that way.

Thanks, guys!
- Tom

One of my favorites is Cosmic Comics on 23rd st on the east side. I like it cause not only does it have a great selection of monthlies and trades, but it also has a decent selection of back issues. I find that stores in NYC usually focus on one of these aspects. For instance, St. Marks Comics has a great back issues selection, but they're trade selection is kinda weak. Forbidden Planet, which is on 13th St. (a few blocks up from St. Marks) has the opposite problem, where they have a great trade selection, but not a good back issue selection. So my favorite in Manhattan is Cosmic Comics.

I like Midtown Comics for when I visit because the trade selection is absolute ridiculous although I'm sure thats the touristy hot spot place for comics and I will be made fun of for this.

I like Midtown Comics also. It's a great store and it's the Times Sq. location is the most convenient for me from home or work.

Oh, no, Cosmic and Midtown are both great stores, guys. I used to shop at Cosmic regularly when I worked in that area of the city. Good call! Thanks!

I make it point to hit Midtown comics in Times Square whenever i am in the city. When I was a young boy (like 8 or 9?) there was a comic shop called Forbidden Planet that I remember being pretty awesome. I believe it is still open, but as I haven't been there in over 20 years, I can't say if it is ACTUALLY awesome, or just childhood memory awesome.

I'm a big fan of Cosmic comics on 23rd street, really nice place. I usually hit up Midtown comics by Grand Central because it's only a few blocks away from where I work. In Brooklyn where I live there is Galaxy comics on 5th Avenue between 8th and 9th street I believe. There are two other Galaxy comics in Brooklyn as well. Those are usually the places I go. The guys at Midtown comics near Grand Central is pretty nice and really helpful so check that out.

Forbidden Planet is still in fact around on 13th St, I go there at least every week to at least look around. Once you enter the place, its like an overload on the geek senses.

Thanks, bro. I've never been to Galaxy in Brooklyn; I'll check it out. I like Rocketship in BK.

Speaking of BK comic shops, has anyone been to Bergen St. Comics?
