On this very first episode of AppJudgment, Patrick Norton gives you a run-down of the most popular iPhone Twitter applications. Learn which ones you should consider downloading!

Watch or download this episode now! (http://revision3.com/appjudgment/ip_twitter)

Patrick Norton gave me the run-down of the most popular iPhone Twitter applications a few weeks ago on Tekzilla...

Love the idea for the show, but why recycle a Tekzilla segment in the very first episode?

wtf? this show came out of nowhere.
This really doesn't do anything for people without iPhones though.....

Yeah this came out of nowhere. Had Travis Lopes not tweeted about it I'd have never heard about it... Gotta agree with Chris on this, it's not a good start to recycle content... But regardless downloading now, thoughts in a bit.

Update: Why did you mention 8 clients, then only review 4, yet ask opinions on TwitterFon which wasn't mentioned? Please don't tell me this has been split into two episodes...

Update: Won't this suffer the same fate as Systm eventually? This could easily be (as it was in the past) a segment on Tekzilla... I don't see how 4 apps per week is anything that'll keep me coming back... That said, I'll keep watching for a few more episodes, see if it turns around.

According to this http://revision3.com/schedule this show will be on 3 times a week.

Quick concise and reasonably informative. Continuity error at 4:20 when the judgement comes in on tweetdeck, it says twitterific, just shows how informative some of the text is in this show.

Not bad but I can see interest dipping quite easily since you can't review apps too thoroughly because most can be covered with a simple one sentence review.

With there being so many apps in the App Store, most of them being useless. Hopefully this show can show the good ones.

It's a good first episode.

Loved the Pros v. Cons overview. Loved the Download and Don't Download.

I'm really curious to see how this show turns out. I like it so far. Looking forward to the next episode. Keep it coming, seriously!

EDIT:

Why did you mention 8 clients, then only review 4, yet ask opinions on TwitterFon which wasn't mentioned?

Actually...great point?

EDIT:

Won't this suffer the same fate as Systm eventually?
The thing about Systm that was explained was that it was very costly. This show doesn't look like it will be as costly.

The only expense I could see on system was the medical bills when Patrick often became hurt and needed attention. With all the money they are bragging they are bringing in, it makes me wonder. Also, for advertising reasons, it is a snap to get tech goodies for free to use in demos. Maybe less mgmt interference or maybe better mgmt people. Since Tekzilla is mostly software review, I guess in eight or so weeks, it will be gone. Get your resume ready Veronicazilla.

I enjoyed the episode a lot. It was well produced and I'm glad you stayed with a Rev3 favorite to host. I stopped subscribing to Tekzilla a long time ago because it was just a muck of everything tech, and didn't have a good focus on the content. So I'm glad Rev3 is rolling out more niche shows.

But seriously, How many shows is Patrick Norton physically able to host? HD Nation was rolled out just weeks ago. Hopefully the hosting of this show will be spread out between Rev3 talent, it seems like that is the way it's going anyway.

I look forward to the next episode Wednesday

Prager's doing Wednesday's one and the show host page says:
The AppJudgment team is made up of Patrick Norton, David Prager, Stephanie Chu, Maurico Balvanera, Annie Gaus and Ron Richards.

So I think it'll be all over the shop :)

revision3 I love you, but you said "Don't Download" to the two best twitter apps. Tweetie and Birdfeed both have outstanding design qualities that are certainly not found in Tweetdeck. Twiteriffic is wonderful as well but saying "Don't Download" to Tweetie and Birdfeed is ridiculous, they are superb apps and are both perfect for the task.

Having a large-ish set of hosts will be good to keep it fresh and keep them able to do 3 episodes a week without the hosts getting too burned out. I'm guessing with 6 hosts, they will each be doing 1 episode every 2 weeks.

Just wanted to say I agree with the host, I find Tweetie to by ugly, watered down, and not worth the price you have to pay. TweetDeck and Twitterific are both 100% better for free.

Rev3 is catering to the apple fanboy audience as usual, at least for this first episode. I can't talk too much being an iPhone user myself, but I agree that apps from windows mobile, palm pre, android, blackberry, etc. should be covered as well as iPhone apps. San Francisco is probably packed with iPhone users, so to Rev3 it probably looks like the broad audience. However, at least in my area, iPhone users are a small minority.

EDIT: Systm was waaaaaayy better than this show

This show seems like another waste of time and should just be a part of Tekzilla. It looks like Rev3 is once again saturating us with sub-sub genre shows that no one asked for. Instead of being able to watch one show with everything, you have to subscribe to several and be inundated with more ads and fluff.

On a more topic related note though, why was it not possible to showcase more than 4 apps? You guys already went ahead and made this show exclusively for showcasing apps, and yet you're already truncating it. I'm pretty disappointed you didn't mention Twinkle either, especially since it's more recent updates that allow facebook integration; I find it extremely useful.

As I stated in another thread, our plan is to cover apps from MANY mobile phones -- not just the iPhone. We launched with the iPhone because both the sheer volume and popularity of the iTunes app store made it a no-brainer to cover first. We have to start somewhere, but it's our intention to cover any and all apps that we can, and your feedback can help us plan what to cover.

If you stick around you'll see variety, as the show evolves. Thanks for your input.

I'd love to see this expand out of the mobile space. Including PC/Mac apps in some episodes would be cool.

Did anyone complaining actually watch the show? lol. Right from the Get-go Patrick basically summed up saying it'll be apps on a variety of phones. Why don't you let the show breathe before you smother it.

Loved the show. Can't wait for more Eps.

Patrick, you're great and all, but this show just seems too similar to Tekzilla and HDnation, just a different subject. The format of the shows are almost exactly the same. It doesn't feel like anything new and to be honest, I wish you would've been more creative and make each of your shows more unique, other than the topic of discussion.

Liked the show and I like that you are going to review other phones but understand that iPhone is where the market is booming right now. It's not fanboyism people, it's common sense to appeal to the bigger market.

Looking forward to the on-the-streets episode on Wednesday.

I do agree the scoring was odd though, how can the office favorite be classes as a no-go? Surely that the majority of people preferred it suggests it's definitely worth a go? Anyway, good show and a good addition to the gradually more techy again lineup here.

The last few months I haven't even looked in the app store so maybe this will get me going again. The only thing that comes to mind for me is Patrick has been starting alot of shows and I would really like to see some different hosts for these shows, his pace is usually painful. Nice guy im sure...

though I don't have a smartphone, and therefore no use for the reviews, I thought it was a well done show. Like the black background, like the pace, like the host this ep, (but who can't love the Nort?) Time length was good. Fun editing and graphics. Over all, think this will be a hit in a niche sort of way.

only issue. The Nort hardly ever tweets, and aint a huge twitter fan as he has said on, er, of all things TWiT, so maybe this ep shoulda been hosted by someone who does use it more?

The show slightly felt like it was hurried out, like it came out of nowhere, but the production value, the pace (quick, but not fast) and the goofy office poll all made up for the lack of homework for the actual review of apps. Not saying the review was wrong, but it could have been put forward in a slightly better way.

Frankly, anyone who does twitter has already settled onto his/her favorite client and it's hard for them to move away from that client unless it brings along something remarkable. I was a happy Twitterrific user, until Tweetie came along and brought what I wanted. I was a happy Tweetie user until Birdfeed came along with its local caching and easy look, so I fluctuate between Tweetie and Birdfeed. Any twitter app, which has to succeed today must either bring in something remarkable that other apps don't do, or just be out of this world. Take Birdbrain, for example. It's a fantastic twitter app, but one that tells you the stats.

As someone who reviews apps for a living, it saddens me to see that you missed some major points of the apps. Also, you mention 8 but do just 4?

On a positive note, it's great to see someone pay attention to the other platforms as well. I really hope there's a roundup planned for the Android platform (I'd have said Pre, but it just isn't available in India yet).

Tweetie was my favorite Twitter app until I got Twitterfon Pro. I didn't really care for the free Twitterfon. And Tweetie really needs to get badges. Here are a list of features Twitterfon Pro has over the free version.

Multi Account
4 Themes
Landscape Keyboard
Shake to Reload
User-Authenticated bit.ly
Instapaper Integration
Ping.fm
Photo upload for Flickr
Ad Free

I also like the fact that you can view web pages in landscape mode in Twitterfon Pro.

As for the show....it was okay. I will watch a few more episodes and see how it goes at least.

I look forward to future episodes, but from this first ep. I was pretty annoyed with the wrap-up. Apparently we automatically decide to not download the paid-for applications? I don't see how $2.99 for Tweetie is a con. Twitterrific was originally $10, and worth it then.

I think that the "Download" & "Don't Download" Judgments are left up to each reviewer/host & in this case Pat felt Tweetie's features weren't worth paying for when there are free apps with the same basic features.

When are the reviews of those coming on the show?

We are not extending Monday's episode.

Listen to the cold open. Patrick says he has 8 clients on his phone, there are thousands of other twitter clients in the iPhone appstore, but 4 worth talking about -- in his opinion. You can agree to disagree with him. That's why we have these forums and we value your feedback.

We will probably re-visit twitter for the iPhone in a later episode, but there are plenty of other apps to tackle first.

Furthermore (from another post), yes the office poll result was different from Patrick's review. Think of it as getting an editorial review vs. a user review.

Liked the show format, Download/Don't review is a quick and easy way to help viewers make a decision. Good camera views of the actual apps along with screenshots help to see what the app looks like as well, nice job.

As long as were on the topic of twitter clients. My picks for The top 3 best twitter clients for Symbian/S60 are:

Twittix (for both Touch and Non-touch devices)

Gravity (for both Touch and Non-touch devices)

I'm a huge fan of twitterfon, things may have changed but I used to use twitterific and you had to go to settings to change whether photos should be taken or come from gallery, twitter fon did it on the fly and has a much prittier interface. I might give tweetie a try based on all the reviews I'm hearing here but there is nothing about twitterfon that I dislike.
