Yeah I just got a hand me down mac book. you know how on windows you right click on "my computer" and hit properties and you can see what hardware your running (processor ram) and what version of windows? Whats the OSX equivalent?

I'm a Mac newb as well but I think I know the answer to this one.
You need to click on the little apple icon on the top left and it should be listed in the drop down that appears.

Yep ...
Click on the "Apple" icon (top left corner).
Select "About this Mac" from the menu. The "More Info ..." button on the resulting dialog will launch you into the System Profiler which will give you more info than you are likely to need.
