I downloaded the retro-MS Word AbiWord but had to follow the link to the ''slightly outdated Mac OS X binaries.''

Once I had it up and running in OS X Leopard 10.5.8 I checked for updates and found that there was ''supposed'' to be a more up-to-date version (2.6.8) but I cannot find it anywhere.

Anybody? Bueller? Bueller...?

What about downloading the C++ source code and compiling it using Xcode?

Compiling source codes for applications - sounds like a great episode topic. i'll post this there.

neooffice is the equivalent of ioenoffice for mac, though there is now a native open office for mac. I love abiword, I have been using it for years especially on low end linux machines. Since osx did have a compatibility layer for x11, one would think that abiword might run natively that way. You used to have to do that for open office.
