so here's the setup:

some friends of mine and myself just realized that were fairly funny and creative people and we could have a lot of fun if we started playing around with digital video.
but here's the catch: I'm an audio specialist and the other two are extremely competent writers. none of us are "camera" guys and we don't really have any idea of what cameras to buy.
we're looking to spend about 1000 - 2000 on a decent camera (or two) that works with both a jumped-up PowerMac G5 and a done up quad-core intel Vista-PC.

any suggestions?

so far, with my own experience, I've come to realize that a lot of HD Sony cameras like to throw a hissy fit when trying to capture to a Mac, but I'm a total green-beret when it comes to cameras so I'm lost to what kind of options are open to us.

great show! keep up the great work.
(would love to see more of you on the BBLiveShow!)

They've got some very nice deals on Canon handheld cameras on Amazon, if you're okay with a small camera instead of a nice big one with a shoulder mount or something like that.
They're all really quite lovely.

erm... I should apologize: Price isn't really that big of an issue. the two big points are video quality and PPC Mac & Vista PC compatibility.

though, it would seem that Panasonic and Canon are topping out list of "stuff to get our hands on".

Well. The canon cameras work moderately well with Mac, but the encoding on the video files is kinda weird, and importing can be kinda confusing at first.
But as far as I know, it works nicely on PCs as well.

Get a Canon HV. I own the HV20. You can pick from the HV20, 30, or 40.

I was going to suggest HV30. You can get 2 for your budget.

I've been checking out some footage for these Canon HV's. They look pretty good!
