Simplify Music 2 allows you to connect to your PC's music library at home, regardless of whether the machine is a PC, Mac, or linux box, and stream to your phone or iPod Touch. Simplify Music 2 even allows you to add up to 30 friends and perform searches of all accounts as if it were one large consolidated library. Additional features such as last.fm integration really make this app a fine addition to your media arsenal.

The downside to Simplify Music 2 is the time it takes to buffer music while on the edge network, as well as Apple's unfortunate "no background processing" guideline that stops music playback if you leave the application.

Watch or download this episode! (http://revision3.com/appjudgment/ip_simplifymedia2)

Even though I don't have an iPhone, I still use the desktop client version of SimplifyMedia every day... it's a great app. It'd probably be the first thing I bought if I were to ever get an iPhone (which I'm not going to anytime soon, but that's not the point ;))

It might not be news to you guys, but the green reflections and shadows left by the green screen were a little distracting this during this episode.

Don't worry though! There's this great show called Film Riot that can help. :)

You mean the green reflection that makes me look ill? And not ill as in phat? Yes. We fixed it in the next batch of episodes. Thanks! We consulted with Ryan and the rest of the film riot crew, but they kept wanting to blow up our heads.

Weirdos.

The entire Simplify Media Suite is fantastic. They just added iPhoto support. It's worth a look.

Awesome episode maubrowncow. I'll definitely be checking it out. Why is it that everyone at Revision3 seems to be naturals in front of the camera? :D

Not to rain on anyones parade but I already do this for free using TVersity. Some of you may already have TVersity running (http://revision3.com/systm/videojukbox2). For more info you can see how to set it up / access it from your iPhone here. http://tversity.com/iphone-support-is-here-and-so-is-version-09107/

Below are some screen shots from my phone.

Pros:
It also streams video (may not work well when not on local network depending on your net connection).
It also acts as a media server for your Xbox and or PS3
You can access your media from just about any web browser, not just iPhone.

Cons:
You do have to open up a port forward in your firewall / router.
If you do not have a static IP you will need to use a dynamic DNS service (This is something you may want anyway) instructions here (http://revision3.com/systm/dyndns)

All that said this app looks like a good recommendation for my non tech savvy friends

Hope this is informative,
E

TVersity is a fantastic service. We've done lot's of digging around in it for Systm. However as you stated, you gotta dig into your router for port forwarding if you want to use it outside your LAN (yes I do!) and it's not an actual iPhone application, It's a web interface. Also, as far as I can tell, it won't run on a Mac.

These are some mighty big hurdles for most iPhone users, but a hella fun playground for tinkerers like us.

First I didn't even realize TVersity is only for Windows. Shows you how much I pay attention to Macs. While I have an iPhone, I'm totally not a fanboy.

Second I have to say there are a few things that I do on the iPhone that aren't technically apps. While technically not apps maybe you guys should give some time to "mobile web apps" on the show. I'm sure a lot of these are cross platform too.

For example I live in SoCal and I've found www.sigalert.com to be a better traffic service than the one in Google Maps. They have an iPhone web interface that takes advantage of the GPS api. (I'll also throw this in the show ideas section)

I use the SF transit Muni site all the time here to figure out what time my bus will (or will not arrive). You're right, there's lot's of great web-apps out there worth a look.

Thanks for the input!
