OH MY GOD!!! i just saw the 20 minute preview in 3D and this was amazing i absolutely loved It. it sucks i didn't get to go to Imax but i saw it at george street cinema. This was nothing i had expect. i wasn't expecting anything like this i had avoided all things avatar so i would be surprised, and surprised i was. The CGI has to be the best i've ever seen, sam worthington was the na'vi.
The 3D wasn't a gimmick and was only there to make pandora more beautiful, and by god is pandora beautiful. in a current trend where everything has to be brown or grey we get this beautiful, colourful world where the level of the CGI makes pandora look like you could catch a spaceship there and hang out with the na'vi.
I only have one question, what are the use of the avatars when at the end of the preview you saw normal people out on the surface of pandora, are the avatars a special task force or are they undercover to research the planet.
Other than that it looks amazing and worth the 4 year production time. December here we come!

You didn't miss anything in the IMAX, as it didn't nearly fill the whole screen. Indeed all the effects blew me away, although, there was also the same silly line that was in terminator salvation (you have a strong heart) that did worry me.

I loved the IMAX 15 min screening that I saw. It's great to see that CGI character models no longer look soulless, like the characters in Beowulf. Cinematography was also strong, as the colors looked beautiful and vivid, something that's always a plus for me.
That being said, a few minutes later when I went to see Inglourious Basterds, I saw the regular trailer for Avatar, and much of the impact is lost. It seems like this one will need to be seen in IMAX to really get the whole feel for it.
Additionally, my friend and I were interviewed right after by the New York Times about it. They included my friend's interview in the article, and not mine however :-/ I did get my picture in the paper while watching the trailer though.

i got interview to for australian T.V. that was kinda cool, got a free avatar poster for doing it. I saw the regular trailer and it lost some appeal. Bt i love the colourful environment. Fay better than that gray and brown video games trend.

Avatar in 3D made my face tingle during certain parts of the film, which I hate to say that I enjoyed b/c I don't want to encourage any other filmmaker's endeavors into using 3D. Every major television manufacturer introduced some sort of 3D television at CES this week. I don't want everything to be in 3D, but Avatar just makes it looks so damn good.

I've heard obviously that 3D is the way to do this movie. Has anyone seen the movie in both 3D and non-3D? Is it really that much better of an experience?
3D theatres are a little harder to find and it ends up being a hassle, but if ir really is that much better, I'll definitely schedule my day around getting to see this.

The Story is ho hum, so the only real thrill to it is seeing it in 3D. That is when it becomes a defining experience, when the visuals literally pop out at you and the wonderful sound. Definitely go see it in 3D, that is the only way to see this movie trust me you will not regret it.
