I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. 2.53 model.
I'm somewhat new to the Mac world..
Simply put, so far I have 2 issues.
1) Any USB mouse is jumpy and horribly imprecise. It's unusable.
2) Bad picture using external LCD
I've tried my 22" Samsung SyncMaster225BW and the new 24" Dell UltraSharp (the one that gets all the rave reviews) THe picture just doesn't look good. I've tried "calibrating"
Is there something simple I'm missing with these two issues?
Thanks for the help. :)

Can't help with the external monitor, but did you putz with the mouse settings in prefs under the apple? I've never had issues, but maybe your mouse needs specific drivers for more precise controls.

Commiserations on your Crapbook. Seems to be you're new to PC's in general, yeah?
Mouse: Have you tried adjusting the tracking in the control panel? If so, try a mouse with Apple drivers. Logitech are a popular starting point - the VX or the MX - although I haven't had any problems with Microsoft mice (Bluetrack Mini, and Arc) without specific drivers. And remember, optical mice don't track well on glass and many very smooth surfaces.
RE: display. I'm presuming you bought the miniDP -> DVI adapter, not VGA?

Yeah, I was wondering that, too, but couldn't remember the terms.

Make sure you choose a screen resolution appropriate for those monitors. If it defaults to 1024x768, it's going to look terrible.
I've never had issues with USB mice, but I don't use them too often. Is the surface you're mousing on a good one? (Not reflective.) Might that be the cause? You could try using the drivers that are provided - Microsoft makes mouse drivers for Mac. It actually changes how the acceleration works, it makes it feel less sluggish.

If anything, every mouse I ever used on my Macs are too damn responsive. I gotta slow the suckers down in prefs.

Really? Never the case for me - usually way too sluggish unless I get some manufacturer-specific driver action on.

I've tried my Logitech MX310 and Microsoft Intellimouse 1.0. I've changed the responsiveness in Preferences. Yes, it moves faster... but it's just that jumpier. OS X instantly recognized the model of mouse -- so I didn't think about getting specific drivers for it... ??
As per the video... yes, I'm using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI. Of course I've changed the resolution to the native resolution. It's the colors and the temperature.. I guess I could fiddle with the settings ON the lcd.. But I've never had to do that with any other computer.
With regards to the display issues, it is a known problem that the adapters don't play well with external displays i looked into getting one recently and found that it was a bit touch and go whether my display would play nice so i didn't get one. So if there is nothing wrong with your settings then it might be down to that. There are plenty of posts about this sort of thing on MacRumors.
