View Full Version : Deadpool # 900; AKA How is it that Rob Liefeld's art has progressively gotten worse over the years?

I remember loving Hawk & Dove back in the late 80's when Rob did the art and I thought his art was so fluid and elegant. Then came the 90's and I loved the New Mutants, but was kind of confused by his art direction. Bah.. I went with it as much as I could, irregular hair and 100's of pockets included. Then we get to Image, and he seemed to refine this new style a bit (even though that early DC work was still superior). Then we had the debacle with Cap with knockers, and now I see this. After seeing the art that was in Deadpool #1(the newer volume) and then seeing this, it just makes me feel sad for him. Why even still do comics if you aren't going to constantly strive to improve. This looks like lost art from Youngblood #1(the oldest volume). Sigh.
I met the guy and he was nice to me, so that makes me feel even worse. Nice guy, but he needs to improve or stop.
Maybe instead of him being worse, his style just doesn't match your tastes? Either that or maybe his evolution as an art doesn't match what you would expect of him. I'm not a huge fan of this either, but there are people out there that like him. He must be doing something right for those folks.

No offense, but saying this is bad or Liefield has gotten 'worse' is crazy talk.
I loved that preview just on the art alone! If anything it seems much more cleaner or sharp then his usual style. Plus I'm not saying that cause I follow him on twitter....yeah that's not it...*darts eyes*

I'm normally not a Liefeld fan, but I didn't see anything wrong with that art at all. I actually kind of liked it.

I've seen some Liefeld art that made me cry, but this preview is downright inoffensive as far as I'm concerned. I mean... he draws feet! On every page! And they look like you could walk on them and everything! The only thing offensive to my eye about these drawings is that they're of Deadpool. (I kid!) (But not much!)

Hes not doing the whole issue right? Right? RIGHT? RIGHT?!
Atleast the Daniel Way run is really really good for the last 5 issues.

This is probably one of the best things I've seen of Liefeld. Sure, it has alot of the stereotypical Liefeld characteristics (like everyone looks like theyre posing, and everyone ALWAYS has there mouth gaping open), but its clean and simple, and theres not much to hate here.

Oddly, Way is one of the few Deadpool writers who doesn't appear to have a credit for issue #900, if you follow the link. (I could see this being the exact kind of thing that Marvel would do as a joke, however.)
I'm torn as to whether that would be a good thing; I like the exposure that 'Pool is getting with Way's ongoing series, and the Benson limited series (Suicide Kings)....but the persona underneath the wisecracks bears only sparse resemblance to the unique character portrayed during the Joe Kelly run. The character is getting a bit too slapstick for my liking.
As to the artwork, it's nothing I would take issue with. In fact, I particularly liked seeing Deadpool show you what he keeps in all those pockets....something that seemed to be an artist not afraid to poke fun at his own catalog of work.

How is Deadpool on #900?
It's a joke. They are making fun of the fact that a lo of Marvel comics are on "milestone" issues. So they are putting out Deadpool #900 as a parody.

This is probably the best Liefeld art I've seen (though that's not saying much). One criticism I had was that Deadpool's lower chest and stomach look ridiculously thin. He looks bleedin' anorexic!

Hmmm, yeah I'm going to go with everyone else and say that this is probably some of the best Liefeld work I've seen in a while. Deadpool is a bit too muscular for my taste, but not disgustingly over the top.

Those images look fine to me.

So the general consensus is most people think the art is acceptable. Looks like some of the Liefeld bashing is kind of a knee jerk reaction.
