Anyone else pick this up today? I just finished reading it and was wondering what everyone else thought. I picked it up mostly because it was written by Kevin Smith. The Arts really good and nice to look at. I thought the story was ok for the fist issue. I haven't read Batman in a long time so I don't really know too much but I'm interested to hear what you guys think.

I felt a little different. I thought the story was not spectacular, but I liked where it was heading. I didn't like his jokes. The art on the other hand was not the best I have seen. I did not enjoy it much. I did think it was cool that there was a Swamp Thing Villain in there!

I enjoyed it, found it rather interesting, writing was good too, especially the narrative parts - however was a bit confused by the characters, I think this run we take it as non-canon? Nightwing and Batman are in it side by side.

Maybe it's like a hidden story from batman's past? Well i pick it up based on who the writer was. The was ok didn't wow my but didn't make me cringe either. The story was ok but it did leave wondering where it is going. I'll be picking up issue #2.

Picked it up
I dug the art, not amazing my any strech of the imagination but solid enough. The writing ranged from good to bad, i enjoyed the flashback at the beginning was very good, and the lines based on the Adam West show. But after that i felt it kinda dropped a little. Ivy was meeeh, i know she is ment to be over sexed but this was just weird, it made the story feel arkward. Joker was ok, but a bit to in your face for my liking. The only character i really enjoyed was Dent.
I will continue for the next 3 issues before i decide if i drop it or not, but it was an ok issue.

With Smith's reputation, maybe they just figured by the time he finished it, Bruce Wayne would be back as Batman and Dick would be Nightwing again.

Smith has said that this isn't out of continuity, and that the new vigilantie character we see at the end of this issue will get his own on-going after this comes out. So it's probably going to find some point of continuity to jump onto.
As for the issue--the second half confused me because, to my knowledge, Etrigan has never eaten anyone's face before, but the first half with Bruce and Dick fighting the Iron-Man Neo-Nazis was awesome. :D

It is amazing to me the lack of buzz about this book. It used to be such a big deal when Smith put out comics. Smith's stock has really come down in the comics world. The funny part is, he's finishing the stories and putting them out on time now!

Yea I would have thought that DC maybe would do a little bit more advertising and marketing because of who he is. I can't remember but didn't people go a little loopy when it's announced he's writing a comic?

From what I've heard, his last Bat-mini, Cacapahony had a really split reception. That might be a reason why.

I really was enjoying the last Mini that Kevin Smith did, until the end scene with the Joker. I'll wait for the trade on this one.
Does saying "I'll wait for the trade" get me banned or Boo'd from this board? =]

The delays on Daredevil were pretty bad, but at least for me, they were worth the wait. That was a really entertaining book. Yeah, it was wordy, but most new comics writers make that mistake.
I don't remember if green Arrow had delays (I think it did towards the end), but I enjoyed that quite a bit too.
Cacaphony came out right on schedule, but I hated it. So i say let him go back to being late. Maybe he needs the time for quality.

That's one of the worst comics I've ever read and unfortunately is the only Kevin Smith I have read (I think) so I'm just put off. When someone says they didn't like the jokes I just get reminded of the bits in Cacaphony that I'm sure were supposed to be funny but so weren't. Awful comic.

Read Green Arrow: Quiver. I promise you it is not crap.
As for Cacaphony...I hear the most complaints come from the third issue, which I missed when it came out. I'll probably wait until it hits softcover.

I never really understood why they have him write for serious characters. Comedy is pretty much all he's good at, why don't think give him one of the wisecracking characters to write for instead of Daredevil and Batman?

1. Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do
2. He's always had a dramatic element in all of his comedies--with movies like Chasing Amy being probably the closest to drama.
