...but are curious about. I'm sure you have them. So why not a thread to ask and see what others who are reading them think?

I'm wondering if anyone is reading "Unknown Solider" from Vertigo. I read the first issue (free at NYCC)...then promptly forgot about it. I don't hear ANYTHING about this book, but I see it's already on issue #12...and that it outsells "Scalped". Wow! Any opinions?

I am a huge fan of Unknown Solider. It's my 2nd fav. book currently coming out from Vertigo. #1 being Scalped.

Waiting on Chew and Agents of Atlas in trade.

Stupid for not trying either but I didn't think they would be that popular by the time the 3rd issue came out for each.

Yeah, Chew is definitely on my list too. Issue #1 was sold out at my LCS. They said a FOURTH printing was due and that they should get some in.

If you like Madrox, you should scope out Peter David's Madrox miniseries that came out a few years ago. The trade is out there, and it is good. It's self contained too.

I just read this last week. I enjoyed it and it was delightful to read the story where David really turned Madrox into the rich and dynamic character I've gotten to know in the current volume of X-Factor. However, the reveal of the villain seemed a bit out of place with the tone of the story as a whole. Still, highly recommended. It really showcases the boundless depth to a character who literally manifests every nuance of his personality, subconscious, what have you.

Also, it made me wonder how long it has been since Madrox has actually created a dupe in X-Factor. 5 issues? 8? Is he technically a mutant is his power never gets used? Although, it could be that it was explained somewhere and I missed it.

The Mighty. I've heard great things, but I've been waiting to see it get collected. Is this a mini or an ongoing? How many issues is it supposed to go for?

UNKNOWN SOLDIER is great. It's my favorite 'new' book besides CHEW and I can't recommend it high enough.

What I am curious about and never got around to read is SCALPED.

It's ongoing

Jonah Hex is the big on I'm not reading right now that I keep meaning to try, I used to want to read Madame Xanadu too but after Paul's review of it I'm less interested

I became bored with Hellblazer so jumped out but I might dip my toe back in and see how it is now

I fell way behind on DMZ too, but I'll catch up with that on trades

I'd also like to check out Jonah Hex. All the constant praise from two out of three iFanboys has had me craving it for a while. It sounds like the whole series is really good, so want to check it out from the start. I also want to check out The Mighty and Xanadu.

And shame on all of you. Read Chew, it's fun. I always laugh my ass off when reading that book. I got mentioned in the last letters page, but they spelt my name wrong.

I just read the 3rd volume. That book gets better and better. I'm extremely tempted to just start picking up the single issues.

I just finished the fourth trade. This is amazing stuff. I'm trying to catch up on trades so I can switch to monthlies, just b/c the book needs sales. How SCALEPD could only sell 7500 or so copies per month is beyond me. Everyone who reads it LOVES it. Get it now.

Okay scratch Chew from my list. Read the 4th issue and now I'm hooked for the series. If only the reprints were easy to find. :(

Absolutely my favorite current Vertigo series.

Also, will be picking up Chew in trade. Sounds great.

Nearly every writer iFanboy does a talksplode with, they have a book I want to read!:

Remender: Fear Agent, Gigantic
Kelly: Spider-Man, I kill Giants (I couldn't see it anywhere in Forbidden Planet, OK?!)
Casey: Godland, Nixon's Heroes
Wood: Local, DMZ, Demo.
Kieth: The Maxx
Brubaker: Captain America, Criminal

Bleedin' endless innit? That's not withstanding Welcome Back Frank, Battlefields: Dear Frankie and Batman And Robin!

EDIT: And Punisher Warzone! And Milligan's Hellblazer! And...

I'm waiting on an omnibus or some equivalent for Fear Agent. Apparently it's in the works. Gigantic is okay. Been majorly hampered by delays, though. I don't think it's even finished yet. I liked the art, but it occasionally got very disorienting. Othertimes it was gorgeous.

Local, DMZ, and Demo are all awesome. That Local HC is one of the best collected editions I've ever purchased. Hefty and plenty to read, plus lots of great extras. Best of those three, but they're all good.

Criminal > Captain America, but I'm more of an indy/crime/horror fan than a superhero fan.

I've been enjoying Milligan's HB run, but I don't think I'm going to place it higher than any other author's run. Maybe Delano, but that's more to do with Delano's writing style (lots of purple prose) and the "dated" factor than anything else. Milligan is working with awesome artists.

I can personally vouch for Godland. I got the Celestial Edition last year for Christmas and love it to pieces. If you love Kirby style art and fun, action packed comics then it's totally worth your time. The only major downside to the series is I feel like it tries to hard to feel "modern" by including some random references to stuff like Condoleezza Rice and My Name is Earl. Granted, they're never important to what's going on, but it kinda dates them right from the get go.

Other then that though I love this series. Each issue gives you the right amount of action and plot development and while it's fun to read in large chunks, it doesn't REQUIRE you to do so to get a full story. It's pretty much the opposite of the "written for the trade" style writing you usually see. Art is great too, sometimes a little wonky and perhaps trying too hard to look like Kirby, but absolutely amazing in spots (the two-page spread in Issue 8).

I read everything so there's nothing left for me try!! Eh, okay, that's a lie, but I have tried a lot of the stuff out there, and mostly right now I get the occasional twinge to try some books out again and see if it pulls me in this time. POWER GIRL for one, because I see Amanda Conner's art in WEDNESDAY COMICS and wonder if the book has gotten any better so I can see her stuff. I haven't read WONDER WOMAN in a year and a half and wonder where that book has gotten. I kind of wish I had bought RED HERRING, I love Philip Bond art so. MOON KNIGHT I feel like I should give another chance to once it comes back for some reason, and I've been becoming a fan of Swierzynski's the past year and can't help but feel maybe I've dismissed CABLE too readily. And I've been curious about OUTSIDERS since Tomasi writes it and he really never lets me down on all the other books of his I get. And I really hate myself for not having read any of the GANGES or EIGHTBALL material that comes out.

DMZ is good -- be prepared for a bleak story though. I think I'm on the fifth trade, and I have to say the story is relentlessly negative. Of course, that's what war is, I suppose. The storylines feel natural, and the "growth" of the main character is too.

I read the first Criminal trade, "Coward". A solid read!

Fear Agent and IKG are definitely on my list. I was at my LCS and almost picked up the former, but walked out with the first trade of Hawaiian Dick instead. What can I say, I have ADHD.

I've had the same question, and have been unable to find an answer, but gauging by the progression of the story, I'd wager it is probably a 12 issue series.

That said, I'll be delighted if it goes on longer.

I haven't read Irredemable or The Might yet either. Or Proof.

Technically read Invinicble Iron Man but not when it suddenly becomes a 'Eisner Award winning' peice of work.

I'm part way through '100 Bullets'. This is one book you can't take a break from. The story is complex, and hard enough to follow if you're reading it steadily. Take a long break, and you really have to try and recover some plot lines from your memory!

Don't let anything stop you! Such a great series, and each major run (Ennis, Ellis, Azz, Carey, Diggle) that you can get in trades is quite good, but a bit different than what came before. You don't need to read Swamp Thing (where Constantine first appeared) to "get" it, but reading Delano's run is a good idea, even though I feel it's not that great.

I might even say read up about Delano's stuff on wikipedia or some place and just jump into Ennis or whoever. Delano LOVED making you read across the top of both pages and then straight across the bottom of the pages but also doesn't always have page layouts that make it obvious you're supposed to read it that way. It's very frustrating, for me at least. But as long as you start at the beginning of a writer's run you should be pretty safe (and it's definitely worth it).

For me, the ones I'm not reading that I really wish I was is CHEW and IRREDEEMABLE. I tried so hard to get both but just wasn't fast enough. Ones I'm not reading due to financial reasons mostly are FEAR AGENT and GODLAND.

I read the four POWER GIRL issues now and I think I'm onboard. It's pretty fun and I'm liking the supporting characters, and Amanda's art is always a selling point for me. I might try INCREDIBLE HERCULES again, but I read the first eight issues of it way back when off the shelf and I didn't see the big deal, but I am kind of curious what's up with the Olympus storyline. Still haven't really found any Indie books I'm not already reading that I want to try though. Maybe WE KILL MONSTERS. I think I have some pdf's of that laying around.

100% Agreed. Ennis is an excellent place to start, but there are some things from the Delano run that are worth knowing.

And yes, those layouts were often very irritating.

I picked up the FF mini and now the main series because I like Hickman, not due to any affectation for the FF, and I am loving it. Highly recommended! You don't really need to read the mini, but it's quite good.
