While I think its interesting from a hacking standpoint, I'm not sure I see a practical use for this at present.

It makes absolutely no sense to me. I mean, the Kindle already runs a Linux kernel and Ubuntu has an ebook reader.
Putting theory to practice is pretty cool, but what need has been met by the successful completion of this experiment? More specifically, what need, which couldn't be met in a better way by different hardware, has been fulfilled?

The only thing I can see that this brings to the table is the ability to import PDF files and have them work correctly.
But in the process, you get a warning from the guy who hacked it to not use the wireless networking. That doesn't sound like a very good trade-off to me.
