Hi, I´m wondering if anyone know if there is some sort of software-edition of Drobo for OS x

I know that the Drobo has great features and makes it really easy to have alot of storage and still backing it up.

However what I´m looking for isn´t the backup feature of it but rather the ability to insted of getting my 4 external drives showing up as independent once I´d love if there was a way to "simulating" them as SINGLE drive insted. It would be much easier to sort out files and easier to find everything if they were at the same place.

Maybe there is a software for this or maybe someone knows of some hardware that can do it?

You could easily do a software RAID5 on OSX. If it uses the same software as Linux it is also possible to expand the RAID like a Drobo.

However, there is further risk involved with the system with regards to expanding. Expanding an existing RAID involves resizing the partitions or creating new ones, I would recommend the latter as the former is very high risk (in my opinion).

It is possible to write a RAID driver/mode that works similarly to the Drobo (after all, the Drobo runs Linux), as far as I am aware there is no software that presently does this.
