Hey, I was just wondering if Diggnation would be upset at new podcasts emerging about other sites, using that same, 2 guys on a couch with laptops (not necessarily drinking beers) talking about some top stories of the week.

It would not be from digg, it'd be for Newsvine (where it's not just links, but original articles as well, not to mention, i'd almost exclusively talk about foreign affairs and politics, unlike technology).

What do you think? Would Alex & Kevin just call it a blatant rip-off or would they not care either way?

I'm a fan of their show but I don't want to offend them.

Doubt it seeing how you wont be discussing the top Digg stories.

Probably not...Might thinks its cool that people are getting out and doing something that they like and I would hope Kevin and Alex would look at that and say "Hey...We influenced and inspired someone. Sweet!"

Anyone else see the resemblance between magunwarrior and my sigs?

I don't see why they'd have a problem unless it's a blatent rip... i.e. doing a show where two guys sit on a couch and talk about stories off of a social news site and calling "something-nation"... and honestly, even if you did that I'd doubt they'd care. diggnation is not about two guys on a couch. it's about Kevin and Alex on a couch.

Both. :p

I woudn't worry. People talking about news in front of a camera was done a looooooooooooooooooong time before these two mooks did it.

I think it was, in the old days, called "TV."

They probably wouldn't care, but I honestly don't know how someone could do that. For me at least, I'd feel lazy and cheap for just copying someone else.

It would not be copying since I would not be talking about technology, but almost exclusively about foreign affairs and politics, something that those two never discuss unfortunately. I can't blame them since that subject does not interest them the same way I care about it.

Jump into the MirthMobile, and head back to Wayne's World ... then step further back into ESPN ... its been done before, it will be done again. Its the content that makes a show, not the necessarily the fact it is filmed from a couch.

Along with what TokenUser said, I'm pretty sure that if you're using Diggnation as your direct influence that they'd be flattered. As long as you're not doing anything low like trying to "steal" their "market" or compete with them directly, I don't see how they COULD have a problem with it.

I don't think they would mind, It's win-win. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery; and Good artist borrow, Great artist steal.

But May I warn you of the FauxRev3 Curse, I fell victim to it when I tried to make a Parody of Ctrl+Alt+Chicken. I Have Never Cut My Finger Making Ramen Before, and I wasn't even using a knife. Heed my mistakes Re-vision-lutionary, Heed my Mistakes.

I think if you called it "Diggnation" and changed your names to Alex and Kevin and talked about the top stories on Digg...They might be pissed....

Otherwise, don't think they'd give a crap. Of course, you'd have to deal with all the Digg-fanboys spamming your website with accusations of being "Diggnation-clones."

Maybe you should try something original after all...

As long as you don't use the measurement "shit-ton" in every single story, I think you're fine.
