I am looking for an external TV tuner for my laptop. I have a Sony Vaio FW. If it can show HD programming that would be great. Also, are there any that have an HDMI input or is there a way I can get HDMI into my laptop? Being a college student a cheap fix would be great. Thanks for the help.

I Have a Sony VAIO NR series and I use ATI TV Wonder™ HD 600 Hi-Speed USB. It plays HD very well and is as big as a flash drive. Here is the Website:

As far as for HDMI, You could probably get a VGA to HDMI Adpter. If you can`t You can get a VGA to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI adapter, but It won`t be as good as being attached to the Motherboard. Input=Output, VGA Quality always equals VGA Quality.
Hope this Helps!

Thanks for the quick reply. I really appreciate it. I'll look into that tuner. I really do need HDMI in though. My computer has 3 USB 2.0 ports, an i.LINK (?) port, and an express card slot (34). If anyone has any solution to this I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much.

You won't find an HDMI input card that supports HDCP which is what is required by most devices.

USB Typically may not have the speed or the quality to export HDMI or HDCP. but that could change with USB 3.0. as far as i.Link and express card I haven`t found any devices for them yet (as I said I have a VAIO to) so I don`t think they world help.

Well is there anyway for me to connect a PS3 to my laptop to be able to play in HD (at 720p)?

There may not be any easy way to do this, but if you have an fairly new LCD Monitor with DVI you can use a cheap HDMI to DVI Converter. As far as not having a monitor, you should probably move to the HD Nation Fourms.
Hope this helps.

dude what you are asking for is an engenering mirical with a collage students budget. I got a hold of a device that aloud me to use my old crt monitor to play my n64 and playstation back in the day and that thing cost me 200 bucks so I can't imagine what you want to do will be cheap.
I am intertested in seeing how someone can do this though regardless of money so when I get back from my run I will do some digging around to see how this would be done.

Just like HDMI, I don't think you will be able to input Component Video either, unless of a miracle.
