Audio seems to be out of sync in the Harmony 880 section after the GoDaddy advertisement (on the MP4 version at least).

In the show it was mentioned that most IGPs do not handle video decoding in hardware.
Modern IGPs from Nvidia, ATI, and Intel all handle full hardware acceleration w/ the same caveats as the Ion (i.e. the media framework needs to support offloading).

I also noticed desync after the GoDaddy advertisement.
I watched the HD-MP4 30fps version.

It loses sync on every version I tried, including the flash player. I liked seeing the revision 3 OMG skater boy out of sync for once though.
I don't know why the MPAA cares so much about people copying protected content by using analogue cables. It's much, easier to do directly on a PC (either ripping from Blu-ray or DVD to the hard drive and simply removing the encryption or watching TV with a tuner) and is a much higher quality copy too.

I liked how he said ION with Atom when ION, by definition includes Atom. It's just the name for a 9400M graphics chip coupled with an Atom processor. I'm not entirely sure how integrated 9400M is though (I haven't taken something with one in apart yet).

One other choice for helping with the remote problem, Egrips.
I have used it on my cellphones for years.

The MPAA's desire for this isn't about ripping Blu-Ray DVDs. They want to block the recording (and spreading via the net) of pay-per-view and other "non disc" products. And you're not going to be watching PPV with an in-PC tuner.
While on the surface having the broadcast flag doesn't sound like such a bad thing, my fear is that once the studios get it they'll then flag *everyting* as "do not record". Behind every great advance in audio or video, the RIAA or MPAA has been right there to oppose it (DAT would be an excellent example).
I'm wanting to see the remaster of "Wizard of Oz"...but I'm not sure I want to see it bad enough to pay eighty-some dollars for the "I have no life and I am addicted to WoZ" collector's edition.
I would also agree with expanding the hard drive on DVRs. When I got my first DVR with a minuscule 80GB hard drive it was a constant battle to watch things before the hard drive filled up, and I was constantly having to carefully select which programs I'd like to record based on space limitations. Then I opened it up and stuck in a 500GB drive, and now I don't even concern myself worrying about space limitations any more, and record everything I want. 500GB in a Series 2 TiVo gives me roughly 300 hours of SD recording at the "high quality" setting.
Another idea for giving a remote a surface with a better grip, and this comes from the hardware store too, is there are rubber-based spray paints that can be applied. Mask off the front for safety, turn the remote over, and give it a good coat.
And I also noticed the horrid video/audio sync after the GoDaddy insert.

I'm just drinking some sweet November Juliet right now. I don't think cappers will have a problem circumventing HDCP protection, so I don't see what the big win is for the MPAA to have "selectable output control". Anyone know how many DVRs would be screwed by this? I think their goal is something entirely different than their stated aim.

How do I tell if my 46" Samsung LCD will handle 24p?

For the remote I don't see why a little bit of rubber wouldn't just do the trick.

Assuming it is connected by HDMI, just set your Blu-ray player to 1080p24 or whatever the setting says. If the TV supports it, it will use it. I don't think there's any downside of setting it on a TV that doesn't support it, it's just changing whether the TV or the Blu-ray player changes the refresh rate. Mine doesn't say it supports it anywhere, doesn't have any menu options for it and is not 120Hz but I still leave the Blu-ray player on 24 and haven't seen any downside.

One thing to think about regarding stickifying a Harmony remote like the 880, make sure that the tape doesn't interfere with the remote's seating on the charging cradle. If the tape prevents contact between the remote and the charger, it's going to be a lot more hassle to constantly remove and retape the remote everytime you need to charge it. And knowing Logitech chargers like I do (horribly designed), even the slightest change could impede your ability to charge the device.

I just got an idea for the remote that everyone seems to have overlooked.
Tie a rubber band or two around it. They are small, easy to remove, leave no marks and provide good grip both against a smooth surface and an uneven surface like a hand.

Have you tried entering the model number into Google and looking for the specs?

I find it humorous that a show that is all about audio and video has sync issues. heh
This is the second week in a row :(

I have installed Snow Leopard on my MacMini which is connected to my HDTV through mini Display port to DVI, then a DVI to HDMI cable. When I click on the 1080p output, it STILL gives me the black around the screen. I could overscan it, but then I loose the top and bottom of the screen.
Anyone also have this problem or know of a fix?
Thanks!

Patrick mentioned getting a copy of The Dark Side of the Moon during The Wizard of Oz segment.
I'd like to try this formula:
The Dark Side of the Rainbow = The Wizard of Oz on HDTV + The Dark Side of the Moon on surround.
Some say that the Pink Floyd album, The Dark Side of the Moon, is an alternate soundtrack to The Wizard of Oz.

While there are some interesting mashups between the two, in the end it's not that much different than this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN75im_us4k).
Well, sorta. :)

That mashup probably uses the audio of one or both clips being slowed down or sped up and then pitch corrected. Those techniques would probably make The Dark Side of the Rainbow presentation that much more effective.

I agree, it would certainly make Dark Side Of The Rainbow better. When it comes to watching the Wizard of Oz, I'm one of those people who would prefer an old spliced 8mm film print with a Dictionaraoke and Casio PT-80 sound track. Well, I imagine it would be different. ;)
The original creator of the audio mashup has other releases. HERE (http://www.mediafire.com/?dn3oyqdd1x2) is a single 28:38 (min:sec) MP3 file of several of them in one mix. One of my favorite tracks is 09 - Ray Parker Jr. vs. ACDC called, "ThunderBusters". Another is track 06 - Pain vs. Black Sabbath called, "I'm Going Paranoid". Your taste may vary.
