Great Episode! I enjoy the part about the iPod and iPhone Accessories! I agree with Veronica, that thing is nice, i jerry-rig many things to get my iPhone to stand. I never made anything this crazy thou

Thank you for the "no bootleg WiFi" advice. Network ops folks and sysadmins all over the world are thankful.

The Logitech SqueezeBox Boom and their new Radio, while not as cute as the panda/pig, also sound far better than you'd expect from their size. The wonders of modern DSP and audio engineering.

The Shure XLR-to-USB thing looks nice, if a tad expensive. For the wanna-be podcasters, I'd be even stronger, just buy a SM58 or SM57. After a year, you will know what else to buy. For $100 retail, just get the Shure.

Later you can get a RE20 or Countryman.

While I was watching the episode just now I was thinking about something I wanted to comment on. Then I saw the outtakes, and suddenly I can't remember what I was going to say. She's definitely been touched by His Noodly Appendage

Now, seriously, and speaking as someone who deals with system security for clients, what I wanted to say is a big "thankyou" for including the warning about adding personal wireless routers to corporate networks. On any system I administer, the first time I catch you doing this (and I *will* catch you) you will get a very stern warning from both me and your boss. The second time, your boss will have you escorted from the building by security (if the client has their own staff for that) or a local police officer (if they don't), and I'll laugh in your face as you walk by me. Thankfully, after 4 instances of having to warn people, only one was stupid enough to go on to win an escort and open laughter.

Now...please excuse me while I go watch the outtakes again. And again. And again. And some more after that. :D

I also wanted to order it online due to the sales people are more eager to help me. LOL Oh well I guess with shipping and all that jazz it would have been $14 something. Now it's going to run $20 or so. HMMM anyone have any ideas?

THANK YOU for being clear about corporate security. In many corporate environments, even non-wireless routers are forbidden due to the ability to abuse and violate contractual obligations for large customers. A few of our customers include very specific requirements concerning who had access to any part of our internal network. Not everyone that works in the company will know the details of these contracts.

Thanks again, Patrick.

At work, I have to use an Airport Express Wi-Fi router on my subnet which is behind the main router. Can I try to setup a DMZ? Will that be sufficiently secure? If necessary, is there an adjustment that needs to be made to our main router or my Airport Express?

Thank you. Also,

Can the Panda speakers be directed against a wall to reflect the sound for greater stereo separation?

What's the best airline for portable devices (laptops, Wi-Fi, USB, airplane mode phones, recharging, etc.)? I liked Song, but they were folded into Delta.

Do the headphones on the XLR to USB adapters receive audio before or after the analog to digital conversion? If after the conversion, it might cause latency at the higher sampling rates.

I noticed this about the parallel-USB adapter question since I am about to install such a cable on a friend's computer. Make sure the cable has the proper plugs. USB A on the computer and Centronics on the printer or DB-25 on the computer and USB B on the printer.

Thanks again.

Patrick Norton!
No tapping on the microphone! Sheesh, you should know better than that! I mean, it wouldn't really do any damage to a 58, but it encourages bad behavior in others.

We sound folks have been trying to eradicate the "tap tap tap, is this thing on?" method for years! It's irritating, inefficient, and potentially damaging to your microphone. It always makes me cringe when people do that....

Anyway, a great show otherwise! I'd love to see you run a couple of XLR -> USB converters head-to-head through some signal analysis software. Great idea!

I watched this episode during the lunch break at my office. I wouldn't want Revision3 to have to assign a rating system, such as "office safe", for its episodes but it might consider it in order to grow and retain its viewership. I am sure that many people watch Tekzilla in offices, libraries or at other locations other than the privacy of their own residences.

Hey, THEY included the material in their show. If the folks at Rev3 don't know men are pigs, then they are very naive.

fan and ninja,
Come on. You're both acting like Veronica did a strip-tease(I wish). There was nothing "family" or "office-unfriendly" about the blooper reel or any other part of the show. Absolutely nothing.
You want something about which to complain? Turn on any major network during prime-time. You'll find everything from mild sexual innuendo to blatant, gratuitous sexual activity. Right there for everyone, including grandma and the kids to see. And I'll guarantee you that people in the office are talking about it at the water cooler.
Now, had she done something like that while wearing that little spaghetti-strap number she was wearing during the hackintosh ep. and, hopefully, had a "wardrobe malfunction", I might have expressed shock and dismay. But not until after I saved it to my hard drive for posterity.

I'm using Ubuntu for most of my computers. So I'm using the FAH Installer from the Ubuntu forums (FYI):

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FoldingAtHome/fah_install

When I switched teams, I shut the client down (/etc/init.d/foldingathome stop), changed client.cfg team number to 171563. Then I restarted the client. (etc/init.d/foldingathome start).

Everything worked fine for me. And yes... all my computers were in the middle of work units.

When the client is finished and the WU is sent to Stanford's server, your work will be credited to the Revision3Fans team.

Nah, the server isn't all that...its a Dell PowerEdge, seems like its running a Xeon 3040 Conroe, but I haven't actually looked at the specs in a year or so.

What kicked it up is I also decided to switch over my main box, which is what I'm typing this on. And it does its folding by running the GPU client on a Nvidia 9800GT...puts that little ol' Conroe to shame.
